man, i am not historically a Thai food lover. I like chinese, love Indian, have had some killer Burmese food, love everything else but Thai has never impressed me. Either super hot or tastes like socks. Well that was about to change. We stopped at this place which just opened in our home town of Falmouth Maine. Wow. First of all, it is very stylish. Not tacky at all. Subdued green colors, wood, waterfalls and laser art on walls, very cool lit bar. Super friendly people. We got there at about 8pm on a Friday; they'd only been open for a few days and were understaffed. Once they realized they'd overlooked us, they couldn't have been more gracious. Gave us some vegetable rolls gratis, then we ordered chicken satay, steamed butterflies (dumplings), and a sausage dish from the north of thailand (name escapes me!). My wife got a beef salad which she loved and I got singapore noodles with shrimp and chicken. The tastes were extraordinary. Nothing common, nothing pretentious. Just super elegant and sophisticated. The place was spotless, presentation was delightful, understated yet very chic. We were suitably blown away, and Pom, the owner sat down with us for 5 minutes to introduce herself and tell us a little history of the place. She already has 3 other restaurants and has had a banner grand opening week. Can't find a single fault. ...
Read moreI’m not generally one to write reviews. Ordered Orchid Thai for dinner for two people. Placed the order at 4:40pm and received the email telling me it would be 25mins until my order was ready. Headed over and gave them an extra 5mins before I went inside to pick up. Told them my name when I got there at 5:10pm and they stated it would be right out and the kitchen was still making it, no problem. Sat down and waited. When the waiting area started to get full of take out orders, hostess began asking everyone their name again. She asked a total of 3 times. At 5:25pm she asked a fourth time and said the food would be out in 10 mins. A person came in to place their order and was told 20mins at this point. I sat and waited for another 10 minutes before a man approached the front area and read my name on a bag that had been sitting there for well over 20 minutes. Ordered my meal, waited a total of an hour for something that was supposed to be ready in 25mins, received cold food because the hostess couldn’t remember my name in the 4 times she asked. How hard is it? They...
Read moreWhat a great experience! Seemed like a family operation, and they operated like it. Everyone did everything (FOH). Exceptional teamwork handling the volume of in-house and take-out orders. But the kitchen!!! We had the veggie Tom Kha soup, fresh vegetables were great and the broth was delicious. Moved on to the Kra Tong Thong appetizer. A bit dry on their own (which I thought was fine, wife not so much), but the cucumber chutney really finished this appetizer nicely. And we moved on to the Drunken Noodles (veggie, Level 5 spice) and Beef Macadamia. The Drunken noodle were fantastic, and wife was pleasantly surprised to find the spice level to actually be spicy; hard to find in Maine. And the Beef Macadamia was probably the best prepared beef I have ever found at an Asian restaurant, and we try often. The flavor was comparable to the beef preparation, it was excellent. No leftovers. But I really want to get back to that FOH service. I have been in the restaurant industry for 15+ plus years and this was the one of the best examples of teamwork I have ever...
