It was a terribly Humiliating Experience. When I walked in, the woman behind the counter looked at me like I had two heads, like what are you doing here an what do you want; just to contrastly observe a “White” group of people sitting in the dining area seeming to have the time and of their lives, laughing 🤣 so Free. Whereas for me, I immediately felt the Opposite, 😔as if to say, don’t get to comfortable as I was indicated to step aside for another “white” patron who came in After me 😳. As I looked at the Menu with eyes glaring down at and toward me, the woman behind the counter was clearly trying to energetically intimidate me to hurry up w my Order and move on ASAP; with No greeting, No Smile, no welcoming cordiality’s; not the customer service, I’m used to on average, even as a “Black” woman in this country; as usually in American Culture, customer serviced s important especially in the Northeast. Anyway, I was made to sit outside in the Corridor for my Food 😠. (I guess to give their Desired customers the impression that I was DoorDash or grub hub. 🤦🏽♀️ smh) I was barely spoken to and not looked in the eye with a greeting as I mentioned nor a Smile or any verbal or body language that told me,… we’re a New business in your Area and we’d like to serve you (that said “Try us!”). I remember when the place was fish n chips so I’ve been here a long time and yet I was being treated like the Newcomer. 😬 I was initially glad to have a Greek Mediterranean restaurant in the area as my medical diet is as such. However, unfortunately, I have to go all the way to another, not so close town/city to purchase Greek food (w real American money that I’ll keep to myself ☺️); Or ask my next door neighbors who happen to be Greek ☺️. -Peace & love 💙 ❤️ to the neighborhood; I wish things were different and one day they will be, bc God is not Partial. (Acts 10:34; 2Chron. 19:7) -Epika PS. I warned my daughter 👧🏾 but unfortunately, she had the same experience and foolishly patroned their business twice! 😱 Another friend from Africa had the almost exact same experience, but I think she was smart enough, Not 😕 to stay around to make a purchase and be dismissed/disrespected for one more second. I wouldn’t either, if I were her. Again, unfortunately as a foundational black American, I’m used to it enough to usually ignore it or try to give people the benefit of the doubt. But, I should’ve left as soon as she (the employee) sat me outside! 😢 I never give reviews but it’s better than emotionally holding it all in bc discrimination is like Death 💀 by a thousand 📄 paper cuts. Oh! I forgot, the Food was just ok. Definitely, not good enough to come back or recommend to...
Read moreWow, I think this might be the first real review for Nostimo. Either that or the people writing reviews have never cooked or eaten before. I love Greek food, but it's difficult to find a good Greek restaurant locally. I know there is one in Cranford that's pretty good, and one in Manhattan (near Carnegie Hall), which is amazing. I myself am not Greek, so take my review with a grain of salt- I'm not an expert... but if you eat at Nostimo you won't need any extra grains of salt with which to read my review. Sodium content is unbelievably high. I ordered lamb, pork, chicken and sausage. Could not tell the difference between lamb, pork and chicken besides texture. They used the same spice combo (which tasted like 75% salt, 10% pepper, 15% lemon) on everything. Chicken was overcooked, dry, with crispy edges. Lamb and pork were juice and tender, but I wanted to taste that delicious gamey flavor of the lamb, or that distinct pork flavor. Unfortunately, I could not because of the "spice combo." 2 of my kids had kids meals (souvlaki), which was a la carte, but I didn't expect that. 5 chunks of meat in a pita. 3 potato slices on the side. $10???? What am I paying for? No onions, tomatoes, not even a little shredded lettuce in sight, or a little bit of tzatzkiki to dip in. Pastitsio- although the bechamel cheese was good, this was basically ground beef and pasta in a small bowl. For $22!!!! Grilled salmon- very small piece, for $29!!!! Just salmon and some potatoes! To piato- meat combo, 2 pieces each with some potatoes... $35!!! This meal was not worth anything close to $122! I am appalled spending this much money for such little food (one medium sized bag) and I will never come here again. The lack of taste is inexcusable for this price, and it's GREEK! Not FRENCH! Increase the portion sizes to standards using common practice, like including...
Read moreI have been going to Nostimo since it first opened in Fanwood and the best part of my experience every time whether dining in or taking out has been getting the opportunity to know Titi and his team who consistently execute authentic and delicious Greek dishes. I have never met a person as dedicated, hard working, and committed to the work that goes into operating a restaurant as Titi even having family members who own an Italian restaurant. Running and operating a restaurant every day is grueling and no easy feat. However, I am so happy to have stumbled upon Nostimo when it first opened because it was a hidden gem with an owner who truly cares about every customer experience. Aside from Titi’s extraordinary character and work ethic to deliver a high quality experience to each of his customers, this place is the gold standard for Greek food. You cannot go wrong with anything on the menu as everything is home made and fresh daily. The desserts are just as delicious with my favorite being the yogurt cake. If you are ever in the area, I strongly recommend you try Nostimo in Kenilworth and once you do I guarantee it will be the only place you go for Greek food because there is no comparison to this place in my opinion. In addition, if you have a chance to meet Titi, please do or ask for him. No matter how busy he is, nothing is more important to him than getting to know his customers and bringing them a memorable experience by having them dine at Nostimo. This is the best Greek restaurant in the area hands down and it because of incredible ownership lead by Titi who is a very special person. The best part about this place is that you will always leave with a smile on your face. Thank you Titi and staff! I wish this restaurant great success and know that it will become a staple in the community for years to come. I cannot wait to come...
