If you're on a quest for an authentic and sensational Indian culinary experience, look no further than Star of India. This gem tucked away in Kenilworth has left me utterly speechless with its delectable offerings and warm hospitality.
From the moment I stepped in, I was greeted by the inviting aroma of spices that transported me straight to the streets of India. The ambiance was charming, exuding a perfect blend of traditional décor and modern comfort.
Let's talk about the food - an absolute revelation! Each dish was a symphony of flavors meticulously crafted by culinary artisans. The Chicken Tikka Masala was an absolute showstopper, boasting tender chicken in a rich, velvety sauce that left my taste buds dancing with joy. The fragrant Basmati rice and freshly baked Naan bread were the perfect accompaniments, enhancing every bite.
The menu boasts a wide array of vegetarian and non-vegetarian options, each more tantalizing than the last. The Paneer Tikka and Vegetable Biryani were a vegetarian delight that even convinced my meat-loving friends to indulge happily.
The service was impeccable; the staff was incredibly knowledgeable about the menu, providing suggestions and ensuring every need was met with a smile. Their attention to detail and genuine care for our dining experience truly elevated the evening.
To top it all off, the desserts were divine! The Gulab Jamun and Mango Lassi were the perfect sweet conclusion to an unforgettable meal.
In conclusion, Star of India is a haven for anyone seeking an authentic taste of India. The quality of food, combined with the warm ambiance and exceptional service, makes it a five-star destination in every aspect. I'll eagerly return to explore more of their menu and create more cherished memories at this...
Read moreThis restaurant looks okay from appearance as seen on the photos. One thing noticeable as soon as you enter is a bathroom/sewage type smell as soon as you enter from the door. We went during lunch time during a Saturday and we were the only customers; no other customers came while we were there. The naan appears to be made fresh as you could tell from the crispy texture; the dishes were mediocre and would have still been a good dining experience if not for the restaurant smell. I never saw the kitchen but there are other reviews that raises huge hygiene issues, so we were careful on what to order and didn't have any of the table water to be on the safe side. The bathroom obviously smelled bad but since the entire restaurant had the same smell it was not a surprise.
The final warning is that this restaurant charges a mandatory 20% service charge on the after-tax total of the bill and says it is mandatory for restaurants on the area which is obviously a big lie and says that is not the tip either so the entire amount is an additional charge. And guess what? You should not be obliged to leave a tip as none of the mandatory service charge or any tip money goes to the waiters; they all go only to the owner. Not sure whether this is even legal as tip implies it is money left to the waiters and we usually adjust it based on service received. Service from waiter was good so I feel pity for him; we were the only customers but I have been to other restaurants where the waiter was nowhere to be seen most of the time even when we were the...
Read moreWe placed out first carry out order over the phone and they missed an item from the order.
We are in Springfield close to Millburn and don't have decent Indian restaurant near by so we placed our order here and decided to pick up instead of delivery. We ordered all 3 vegetarian dishes (veg jalfrezy, matar paneer and daal special) and 2 regular naans with butter and 1 without butter between 4 people.
Food was delicious. Especially Matar Paneer. We aksed for medium spice but they were more spciy than we liked but still delicious. Quantities were good too. Betwee 4 of us we couldn't finish it all. Each dish came with rice so it was a lot of food.
Food was ready on time. The host was polite and the pickup experience was smooth and quick.
However, when I got back home and realised that they didn't pack on the item I called them. I was told that it was my fault that I forgot to pick up that item and when I didn't buy that then I was told that they don't have that item on menu which is a complete lie. And then they said I was not charged for that item so why are we complaining. The whole point was that we aksed for Daal Special and they completely forgot. Instead of apologizing they blame me. Ruined the whole experience and not going...
