Visited this place yesterday for lunch buffet. This place needs lot of improvements. I'm not going back.
First remove that old crappy mat at entrance door and clean up that area, make it more welcoming.
Food is sub-par. Dosas are stale and dry without the alu curry. Other curries are not so flavorful. Rice is just one variety, no tamarind or biryani. Food refills are not on time. For 90 min of our stay just saw the same food in trays in small quantities... there is no vibe of freshness expected. Didn't even try the desert, completely turned off by then. Had to flag the girl even for water refill.
Napkins need to be at each table in a self-serve place, not just at one location by plates.
For a sub-par vegetarian buffet, $20 per head is pricey. They also added credit card fee to the bill, who does this? If you want to do this, be honest upfront. There is no clear bill presented, just the girl shows up with the mobile device that does not show any details. In addition, a minimum tip option of 18% on the screen is presented, that too for a self service buffet. All in all $27 for each buffet is not worth it for the food and service at this place....there are lot of other buffets that are better IMO. Even non-veg buffets are not this expensive. On the way out, typically saunf/mouth freshener is common which is missing here.
Hopefully owner takes these reviews bit seriously...
Read moreFood is typical Indian food. Nothing great to mention. Restraunt ambience and cleanliness is okay. My issue is the staff ,in particular a young man. There is a lack of professionalism in almost all the staff but this person took it above and beyond. We went there on a Saturday night to have dinner and I ordered dosa, idly , my husband ordered daal tadka with naan. Once they have served the food they never come to ask if everything is okay or we need anything else and it’s also very hard to get attention of waitors. Our table needed some clearing so we asked him to take away additional plates. At this point my husband asked him to get additional naan which the staff clearly heard and said okay. 20 mins later and yet no sight of naan my husband asked this young man what’s keeping his naan that he asked him to get. He rudely said ,”did you see me taking your order down on a pen and paper”. We were shocked at his rudeness. If a staff can treat a paying customer like this then probably they don’t need customers. We immediately packed our food , paid and left the establishment. He didn’t even offer an apology when he clearly understood that we were not happy. I would not set foot in a place where the staff has this kind of attitude even if the food is amazing. Needless to say with their mediocre food and careless attitude this restraunt is off of my...
Read moreBest Indian food in southeast Michigan, by far. Really good South Indian vegetarian food, made with fresh vegetables and subtle spices that are mixed with intention. The spicy dishes have good heat that augments the flavors of the ingredients and the chef does not drown his dishes in grease like so many Indian restaurants do in the US. They have a large selection of dosas, vada that is crispy and brown on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside, and idli that is perfect for sopping up the chef’s hearty sambar. The weekend buffet is always filled with good dishes, and they keep everything fresh and well stocked. If you choose to order from the menu ask the very helpful and attentive staff to recommend something and you’ll be happy.
I’ve eaten in many restaurants in Chennai and would stack Chutney’s up against the best of them. Enjoy!
Updated Oct, 2025: Just got back from a super delicious buffet lunch and realized I should have left a review after last week's amazing special Diwali lunch buffet. The chef here is amazing: what he does with fresh vegetables and spices! We are looking forward to this year's holiday buffets: Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's....
