I went in for lunch. Ordered the salmon teriyaki bento and pinto(?) sushi roll. Bento came with side of miso soup and salad which were average at best. The main dishes were the big flop.
The bento came with teriyaki salmon, rice sprinkled with nori furikake, 4 dumplings (2 different kinds), edamame, and California roll. First off, I have a palette that can easily taste farmed/frozen VS wild caught quality fish (especially salmon) and can say without a doubt that the salmon is farmed/frozen. Farmed salmon does not taste as good and also isn’t healthy for your body. (Feel free to research that). I had to force myself to each that salmon, it was that bad.
Next is the frozen/leftover dumplings with a drizzle of some thick sauce, must I say more? Again, had to force myself to eat them.
The only thing that tasted average was the edamame, but how could anyone screw that up anyway.
Lastly are the California and pinto rolls, very underwhelming, for a place called “sushi ko”, I’d expect more. The wasabi had a superficial color, I doubt it’s real or good quality wasabi.
And the bonus, I left with a very bad after taste that might have been from the fish or dumplings. Then I noticed as I was walking out the door that the windows were not clean. Also the young waiter was chewing gum while servicing tables (disgusting?). What an excellent experience.
All this for a lunch that costs about 30 dollars? Essentially I paid the restaurant to torture me.
Compared to many other Japanese restaurants I’ve been to around metro Detroit, this one takes the cake for THE WORST Japanese/sushi restaurant around!!!
The only thing nice thing I will say is… it’s a small dining area, reminds me of japan, that’s it.
It was my first and last time visiting. Thanks for the...
Read moreThe staff is quite friendly, they greet you when you enter and say goodbye when you leave.
The gyoza is pretty good, deep fried on the outside and juicy on the inside.
The bibimbap i ordered with beef was really good. A word of advice though, prepare for both your food and bowl to be scorching hot. It did crisp the rice at the bottom of the bowl but it was still good.
The sushi stole a star (almost two) from the rating. I had salmon, mackerel, and scallop nigiri. Here's what was off about each one:
Salmon - it was a larger piece of fish which was suprising. But i found it had a considerable amount of bright neon green wasabi underneath the fish. That could be forgiven but what was the deal breaker was the quality of the fish. It was more like a discount piece of the tail or a similar fish perhaps.
Scallop - first time having it as a nigiri, and possibly the last. It was a nice size scallop and felt quite tender. But it was a deception. The moment i bit into the meat and started to chew, i had to keep from throwing up. The meat was room temp and tasted like the bottom of an old rotting fish tank. I asked my fiance, who has eaten scallop nigiri and enjoys it, if it's supposed to taste like that and he bit it. Even he made a disgusted face. He called it ocean water that sat in the bottom of an aquarium and fermented for awhile.
Mackerel - i love pickled mackerel but this was not great. Again, large pieces but not what you would expect. Very oily, even for mackerel, and not even pickled.
The bibimbap came with a house salad and miso soup. The salad was good but the soup was obviously from a packet...
Read moreI am not usually one to leave reviews, but after today, I felt compelled to. As a couple celebrating our anniversary, my husband and I loved it there! Despite being a picky eater, the waiter was so kind and helped me pick the perfect dish. I ended up going with the Tempura udon, and I absolutely loved it. Having it for the first time made me a little nervous, but it easily became something I could see myself getting again. It tasted extremely fresh and was at the perfect temperature. The fried shrimp with the broth was an amazing combination! The presentation was PERFECT I def took a lot of pictures, haha. My husband loved the sushi so much I had to stop him from ordering more than I knew he could eat. He told me that the raw fish tasted "A grade" and was "Spectacular". The portions were perfect and nothing was overpriced. This restaurant seemed to be the only one in the area with their AC running, which made it even better. I loved the environment and authenticity of their décor and food choices. The staff was extremely kind and made me feel welcome. For the first time we didn't have to constantly wave over the waiter. We were well taken care of. There wasn’t a huge wait, which I was a big fan of. The cleanliness of the restaurant was refreshing. This place will definitely be a place my husband and I will return to...
