My background, I'm Native American and interested in trying restaurants around the reservation as I'm running errands or out for work. Farmington, NM's background...an amount of racism still exists. With that said, I'm trying not to be biased based on that.
Anyway, I walked into this restaurant and it is a, "please seat yourself" situation. The first server that had come over was a white woman, but it was like once she saw the color of my skin, she didn't want to serve me...HOWEVER, was quick to serve the white couples sitting directly behind me that came in 10 minutes after. Shoot, the couple even got an appetizer in before I even ordered. Again, I didn't mind that and didn't want that to be something affecting my review. The server I had, which the receipt shows Cynthia was very attentive as I sat, ordered and ate.
So, I had gotten the Panang Curry and at most restaurants, the rice is included with the entrée meal, but it is not. You pay for the rice per individual serving for either Jasmine or brown rice. When I had ordered the food, it came in steaming hot, which I freaking love! The food remained hot even as I was packing the leftovers. 🤤 Aside from that, I loved the Panang dish; however, I am not a peas person and there were alot of peas...so be mindful of that if you don't like peas. That was something different for me and new food situation for me.
Also, I had gotten the sweet and sticky rice to go and they prepped it oddly separating the mango and rice but drizzling it already. I was expecting it to be packed separately with the drizzle on the side and not already poured when the server said things were separated and was unsure why it was prepped the way it was prepped. Later on in the day, I tried the dessert and the coconut cream made the mango kind of bitter to eat so I wasn't able to enjoy the mango considering how expensive they are in stores as well. That part felt like a waste. However, the rice was still manageable and delicious to eat when the rice soaked up all the creamy coconut drizzle sauce.
The ethnic lady who was my server... if her name was Cynthia, she...
Read moreJust went to this place for my second visit. It was a busy Friday night and there were two tables available. We seated ourselves per mgmt instructions. Soon a bus person came out and provided menus and water. At this point we waited 20 minutes to get someone to take our order. I even placed the menu over the edge of our table to get attention. Up to this point no waitress ever introduced herself to us. We did not know who our waitress was? We flagged down a bus person and asked when a waitress could take our order? The bus person was very concerned and stated that it seemed "off" and service up to this point was not very good. I was told they were, "short on staff tonight." I can understand that. Quickly, our waitress showed up to take our order. This SAME waitress had walked by our table for the last 20 minutes at least 10 times. After waiting another 15 minutes we asked about our appetizers and beer. The appetizers quickly came out, no beer. Again, after 5 minutes, I had to asked for my beer? We were NOT done with our appetizers, when our dinner showed up. Sad, that appetizers and dinner practically show up at the same time. I was unfamiliar with the crispy tempura ka pau that I ordered. There was something missing? It was the Ko Pau sauce. The kitchen delivered the dish without the sauce! At this point, I was tired of having to ask for everything and decided to just go with the sauce in the triage of sauces that come on all the tables, BUT our table did not have one! Again, I did not feel in the mood to ask for this. We quickly asked for to-go boxes and got out of the place. A complete waist of $55.00 and a Friday evening. I do not think I will be coming back again and I will NOT suggest this...
Read moreWould you buy this sad pile of fried rice for $16 plus tip? Boons has certainly gone down in quality and selfishly hiked up in price. This is the ONLY asian restaurant I know that makes you pay for rice with your meal. Shame on you Boon. Carry out you will get half portions for same price. Curry has been very watery lately, this is a new issue so I stopped buying the curry. There are also a lot of complaints that they only fill the curry cup half way now. The first time I went there, they didn't even ask me if I wanted a take home box for the curry, it's almost as if they took it away and dumped it back into their pot. Oh yeah, and if you don't like your food, you will not get a refund. They chef won't allow it and they will tell you there are no substitutions. First time I ever heard that at a restaurant. Wow. My advice if you dare go here. Eat in to get full portions and just take it to go, don't tip. This place is a scam! Your new waitress btw, doesn't even ask what spice level you want and I've had missing items in my dish. When she brought them to me, I had to ask for extra! This place only thinks about $$$$. My mom was complaining she was still hungry after eating, not a good thing to hear after paying an arm and a leg. There are better asian places to eat at. 👎👎👎 do...
