I’m truly disappointed to be writing this review, as we’ve enjoyed coming here many times before. However, I can’t overlook my interaction with the extremely rude owner. To be honest, I am not even sure how to truly convey the ridiculously rude interaction over text.
We placed a to-go order for two omelets, hash browns, and biscuits. When we got home, we found the food was undercooked—we had to finish cooking it ourselves on the skillet. I called the restaurant to explain the situation and requested a refund. I initially spoke with the manager, Samantha, who said she would get the owner.
When the owner got on the line, she began the conversation by abruptly saying, “what do you need?” I explained that I had just spoken with the manager and was placed on hold and waiting to continue the conversation, not realizing this was the owner. She curtly responded, “Well, I’m the owner.”
I proceeded to explain what happened and asked for a refund. She replied, “Well, I put it together, so I don’t know what you’re talking about—it looked fine to me. We don’t do refunds.” I asked for clarification, saying, “So, if someone’s food is undercooked, you don’t issue refunds?” She confirmed, “Correct.” WOW (just a heads up).
Additionally, the owner didn’t include to-go utensils or butter and jam for the biscuits (which are available at the tables). Of all people, the owner should have known to include this for a to go order. While this was frustrating, the bigger issue was her dismissive and rude attitude. I was polite throughout the call, as I always feel bad complaining about food—but as a paying customer, I shouldn’t even feel bad in the first place. I called them first to try to get it resolved.
After scrolling through reviews, I noticed several other complaints about the owner’s rude behavior. Sadly, this interaction has overshadowed all the positive experiences we’ve had here. It’s a terrible way to run a business, and I hope she learns to treat customers better. I wouldn’t have been as upset if she had at least been kind and offered a credit or some form of resolution. Instead, her rudeness will prevent us from...
Read moreIt’s been open less than a week now. It’s a very nice atmosphere. I had a good experience. I arrived a little after 8 on a Monday and was seated promptly, as it was not crowded yet. Tried to stop in yesterday, but it was over an hour wait. They need to adapt the Yelp Join waitlist feature, rather than asking their guests to come and get on the list in person, then waiting for an hour+. Just a suggestion, Starwood.
They serve Segafredo Zanetti coffee, which is so great! I had that and iced water. I ordered an omelet, the Bacon Avocado Omelet. It comes with two sides, so I ordered hash browns and oat meal (an even swap from grits)! The food was excellent, cooked perfectly. The oatmeal was perfect and hearty. I added one package of butter and a little bit of brown sugar with it. While enjoying the meal, I noticed others enjoying mimosas and fresh orange juice that looked delicious.
Lots of good here. Food was very good, so new and clean, spacious, being able to pay by scanning the QR code, and the restrooms were spotless clean and smelled great (actually).
Some suggestions for Starwood… Make sure the silverware is clean. Food was dried/stuck to my spoon. The Heinz Ketchup in the glass bottle is great and nostalgic and all, but they now have the squeezable bottles that are much easier to work with for the guests. The longhorn skull is decorative and all, but it started to get in my head a little, as it was right in front of me for the whole visit. I’m not normally weirded out by something like this, but this did.
Overall, it’s nice to have a place like this in Fate. I look forward to more visits and trying more of the...
Read moreWe went to the cafe today and it was not a great experience. I would recommend in a few months after they are established. The food was good.
My family of 5 (including 1 year old) waited to be seated for around 20 minutes. Which is pretty typical so no complaints there.
We waited over 30 minutes to order with failed attempts to get the waitress. She approaches the table and says our food is almost ready. We didn't order yet… my 1 year old is completely losing his mind at this point. He loves loves loves food. He is typically the best at sit down places who operate in an efficient manner.
We order our food (which involved repeating our order several times) and that takes another 25 minutes or more. They don't bring my toddler food or my other youngest food! I am completely at a loss at this point. We are now approaching his nap time.
We asked for the receipt immediately after getting food in fear that would take another extended period of time. We get our receipt and she gives us the wrong one.
During all of this we neatly place dirty dishes on table in hope that they would get them to free up space on our tiny table. The manager is walking around asking how their experience is and I can't help but think he strategically passes us up.
I will consider all of this as the establishment working out all of the kinks and inexperienced waitress. It will not be a place I would recommend to families with small children who can't handle all the issues that causes serious wait times. I would go there without my children and it will be fine.
All of that and I left with a bad experience and $100...
