I have heard decent things about ‘The Catfish Hole’ from locals, and from how many people hold up traffic on Weddington trying to turn left into their parking lot, I assumed it would be worth a try. Unfortunately, my experience at this location was disappointing. My party was not met with prompt or friendly service from our server, nor did she introduce herself or seem happy to be there. The menu (which seems like it would be simple for a basic catfish restaurant) was made confusing by the server who was contradicting it. Portion sizes and prices did not match up with what she was conveying to us. Our food was ok, though the catfish was small. The fries must have been a joke: greasy, soggy, and droopy. I’d recommended subbing to a different side if possible. Keep in mind, if you split an entree with someone you will be charged a spilt plate fee. Our server did not bring us our food, nor did she stop by our table until she dropped off our check. No refills at any point of our visit, no offer of to-go drinks, or “thank you’s” for dining with them. I won’t go into detail about how miserable and sad the busboys looked or how everything in the restaurant felt stuck in another time period, but I will say one last thing about ‘the fixin’s.’ Basically, it’s Hushpuppies brought to your table after you’re seated. Seems like a nice gesture, but there’s a catch. If one of your party doesn’t want an entree, but does want just one (1) hushpuppy, that person will be charged $6 dollars. I hate to imagine being a sever and having to explain that to my table. At the end of this, I doubt my experience will amount to much. If anything, please work on servers and how they interact with customers, how often they check the table, and making sure the menu is clear and concise to...
Read moreWe heard great things about the Catfish Hole and I’m so glad we tried it! The service was great and the food was awesome. The food was so good that I didn’t even take a picture, which is rare!
The “Fixins” they brought before the meal were great. Homemade pickle spears, cole slaw, pickled green tomatoes, and best of all, hush puppies! They were fantastic and I’d return just for them. We ordered the combo shrimp and catfish platter, which came with fresh cut fries. The catfish fillets were cut small and were perfectly breaded and fried. The fried shrimp were even better, in my opinion, and that’s coming from someone who has had lots of amazing Gulf coast shrimp.
The service was excellent! All of the servers moved about filling drinks and bringing more Fixins to each others tables, so it felt like we never had to wait for anything.
The prices are average for seafood, and definitely worth it. The only negative I can think of is that the location is a bit dated and shabby, but some may find that charming. The most important thing was that everything was clean and well-maintained, so I can’t complain.
Overall, the Catfish Hole was awesome and is going to be our go-to place when we need some fried shrimp and catfish! And apparently they have an awesome burger that uses locally sourced beef, but I felt like getting that on my first visit to a place called Catfish Hole would...
Read moreFrom the moment we walked in the door, the aroma hit your nose, and we had hoped the food was as good as the smell 😉 Yes, it was good.
They serve you the fixin's- Hushpuppies, some kinda green tomato stuff (which was surprisingly good), and coleslaw.
We ordered the regular combo to share, but I wouldn't advise that if you have a hearty appetite bc you only get about 4 shrimp and 4 pieces of catfish, so its good enough for one person. We were headed to the airport, so it was decent for us since we could take anything to go.
The hushpuppies are endless because they refill you if you're low or empty. I'm a hushpuppy lover, and these passed the taste test. They were delicious!
The coleslaw, I'm a little funny with that because I either like it or I don't. It was good, no carrots, taste ok.
Whatever that green tomato stuff was, I actually liked it. Can't describe it really, guess you can say kinda pickled.
The fish and shrimp were seasoned really well. I didn't need any ketchup or anything that's how you know it's good...lol
I didn't care for the fries, just looked like they were fried in older grease. I can't give a fair review on the fries because I didn't eat them. I almost forgot we had the fried okra, which were super delicious.
The restaurant was clean and big and has a country vibe.
The server was attentive, friendly and knowledgeable and had a...
