What a gem of Fayetteville, AR. I was traveling from out of state and found myself hankering for some quality Mexican food. This was one of the top listing, and now I know why. I walked in and was promptly greeted by very friendly staff members. I was immediately seated and brought the requisite chips and salsa. Even though it was an hour before close the chips were hot and fresh like they were made just for me. After a quick deliberation I decided to order the chimichanga with fajita steak as the protein. Within SEVEN minutes I was presented with a piping hot plate of deliciousness. The chimi was fried to perfection and the steak meat was fantastically seasoned and juicy. If I ever find myself in Fayetteville, AR again, I will definitely be stopping by again.

Came here for father’s day today. I ordered the pollo borego. The chicken was less than 1/4” thick and the sauce was watery, plus the mushrooms were slimy and canned, not fresh! The flavor of the sauce was good but the chicken was dry and incredibly thin. We watched a server drop a cup of water on a lady at the table next to us, they immediately moved her to another table but the water remained a pool on the floor for over an hour. Nobody ever came to clean it up. We were charged for extra sauce which we didnt ask for. We never got refills, despite asking multiple servers for drink refills. The mens bathroom was closed, the toilet was clogged. We had to go nextdoor to Freddys in order to go to the bathroom.

We recently enjoyed El Matador on a recent trip to Fayetteville. The space here was comfortable and the staff was friendly. The food was good and we all enjoyed our dinner. I’m a lightweight on my salsa. Their salsa has a little heat to it, but isn’t so spicy that you can’t enjoy it…it’s just a little more spicy than the average, I would say. It’s good. They also serve Abuelita Maria tortilla chips, which are the officially licensed Razorback tortilla chips (lol.. I love my Razorbacks, but that is a silly thing..I like it, though). This is a good restaurant and my family has made return trips here. Enjoy if you are feeling like Mexican in Fayetteville.

I'm giving a one star rating because I can't give less than that. Issue 1) ordered a burger without a bun and it came with a bunch, pretty hard thing to screw up but ok. Sent burger back and burger only comes with patty, cheese and a tomato on top. No condiments or anything else. I had to wait until out waiter came out again to ask for the rest of the burger toppings.

  1. waiter never refilled our drinks the entire time.

  2. waiter kept watching soccer instead of coming to the table to check on us. (He literally looked over at me twice and then kept watching before he came over)

  3. tried to pay the bill but waiter said the system was down and asked us to wait a minute. We waited a while then a while turned into 20 minutes.

  4. Tried to find waiter to just get the bill which we still hadn't gotten a copy of at this point but literally everyone was gone but the bus boy who we saw once.

  5. offered to pay cash for which we still didn't know we had enough but again the waiter said hold on ill see and was gone for 15 more minutes.

Summary: Food order was messed up, service sucked even worse and it took more time to pay our bill and leave than it did to get our...

WAY TOO MUCH $$$ for what we got !!! Even though we weren’t crazy about the place, we decided to try it again. It’s close to home. BiG MISTAKE! It was terrible! Service was terrible.. rice and beans came out 10 minutes before the other half of our meal. What was hot got cold, what was cold got hot! When my steak for fajitas finally came, she forgot to bring the wraps to put it in. Took a while to get her back. Wait Wait Wait. MORE COLD FOOD! Presentation was terrible.. sauce and food all over the outside of the hot plate. I asked for extra napkins, and she brought 2, when everything was such a mess! I had to ask for more over and over, like they were made from gold. Lastly, the piece of meat they included in the combo fajitas, was a 95% piece of FAT WITH BONES, and INEDIBLE and I might add .. GROSS AS HELL!! It was left on the plate, and I hope they noticed.. not that it’ll matter. The employees sit in an area so close to diners, that they take around the corner. Yak yak yak talking.. it’s the staff that make the place uncomfortable. Between it all.. We Will NEVER BE BACK !!! THUMBS DOWN...

We have been going to El Matador for 10+ years. It was our place to go for Mexican Food. Since about about 2 years ago, the prices here have been OUTRAGEOUS. We understand these are hard times due to the economy, but they are just flat out ripping people off. We live near by so we have caved several times on picking it up for dinner due to convenience. Our last order was a Steven special, large queso, and a burrito verde, and it came out to be $57. And it was a take out order. The quality is not that good for $57. The last time we ate at the restaurant, the service was terrible. Our waitress barely checked on us. And then her child came into the restaurant and she was playing with him in front of us while we were still waiting on several things. Extremely unprofessional. We have thankfully found a new spot just 10 min down the road where two enchilada dinners and a regular queso is $37. We will no longer be dinning here! Save your money and go...
