The Tavern Kitchen & Bar — Restaurant in Fenton

Very nice place to go and eat. Food was very good. Sis started with the chicken and dumplin soul. Which she said was wonderful, and that is saying something because she makes fantastic chicken and dumplin soup. For her entree she had the salmon with garlic parmesan potatoes and spiral cut veggies. Sis loved it all, although she couldn't eat it all. The portion was good sized. She is very happy she has left overs for tomorrow. My meal began with Minestroni soup which had big cut veggies and was delicious. My entree was the stir fry chicken. Yummmmmm. The sauce similar to teriyaki sauce was plentiful and very flavorful. Plenty of giant cut veggies and rice. The veggies were too big to eat in one mouthful for me. But I could cut the easily. Again a generous portion. My husband will love the left overs. That is if I don't get to them first.

Our server Aliesha was fantastic, very attentive, and quick to say what was good. And she seemed to mean it by the look on her face and the tone of her voice. She was quick to get us refills. And didn't bother us after giving us the bill. She was a very pleasant server.

All in all the restaurant is very nice. Bar seating along with dinningroom seating. The tables are not too close so you don't feel like you are right on top of some other party.

The only down side to our meal was that our soup had to be eaten with gigantic spoons which is all they have. They do not have normal teaspoons. Not even for your coffee. And Sis said the coffee tasted a little burnt and it was $3.99 for that cup of coffee.

I’m not going to message you privately because you’ll use that as an excuse to change my negative review and I don’t think that’s fair to others looking for places to eat in the area. Reasons for my review are: I arrived at exactly 8:49 for a very normal burger and beer dinner and some basketball. Although I’m sure the staff will deny the attitude, we were clearly seen as a nuisance to the bartender(s) who were surprised we would want to order food at such a late time of night (lol). What kind of tavern or restaurant closes at 9:00, what is that?! It was very uncomfortable eating and drinking while the employees were frantically cleaning and counting money in front of guests in order to leave ASAP. We even joked about how we saw the guy in the bathroom cleaning as quickly and lazily as you could imagine. It was as if it was 11:30pm. It was very awkward to be the last person at a bar at 9:30 especially when the employees clearly wanted you gone. Was not an enjoyable experience in this regard. Wasn’t happy with the burger options on the menu. Did not have a regular burger on the menu although you could create your own. 2b. I’m not positive so I could be wrong but I am about 90% sure it was a sodium filled frozen patty. 2c. Either way, I asked for medium well and it was medium. Sorry if that’s picky, but don’t ask for a temperature if you’re not going to cook it that way. 2d. Overall flavor of the burger was 5/10 Forgot to bring the water that I ordered.

Our experience wasn't as positive as others have described, so we're inclined to consider it an off day at The Tavern. We were a party of three on a weekday afternoon, and the place was quite empty, with perhaps only five tables occupied.

The experience started well, but things changed when our food arrived. After that, we didn't see our server again. Let me rephrase that by saying we could “see” our server but she remained at the bar/side station with her back to us mingling with the other servers. Needless to say one of our meals was missing its side, our drinks were never refilled, and there was no follow-up to see how we were enjoying our food.

We eventually had to signal another server to get our bill, while most of them seemed to be lingering at the bar on their phones. It left me puzzled how any owner or manager could find that situation acceptable. When our server did finally come back to our table, I felt compelled to express my dissatisfaction with such poor service. When I mentioned that one dish was missing a side, she simply asked, “Would you like that to go?”

This experience has made us reluctant to return. I always aim to highlight something good about a place, and the positives were the food was decent & it has a well-appointed interior. We hope management pays closer attention to their staff's performance during quieter periods, as the servers we encountered on that day seemed to take advantage of the lull.
