My recent visit to Sliders Seaside Grill in Fernandina Beach, FL, left me with mixed feelings. While the establishment boasts a relaxed beach vibe, live music, and reasonable prices, there were some significant drawbacks that marred the overall experience.
Let's start with the positive aspects. Sliders Seaside Grill offers a laid-back atmosphere that perfectly aligns with the beachy setting. The live music added to the ambiance, creating a pleasant environment for patrons to unwind and enjoy their evening. The affordability of the menu is also a noteworthy feature, especially in a tourist-heavy area like Fernandina Beach.
However, the experience took a hit due to the poor bar service. It was disheartening to wait for extended periods just to place drink orders and receive them. This lag in service was particularly frustrating given the beach vibe and live music, where one would expect a more efficient bar operation.
The food, unfortunately, did not live up to our expectations. The lobster bisque lacked the rich and creamy texture one would anticipate, leaving it feeling somewhat lackluster. The calamari was a disappointment as well, with a rubbery texture that failed to deliver the crispiness and tenderness one would hope for in this dish. Even the shrimp, while decent, did not stand out as a memorable culinary experience.
Perhaps the most baffling aspect of our visit was the early closing time. Sliders Seaside Grill closes at 10 PM on a Saturday night, which seems completely at odds with the beachy, nightlife-friendly atmosphere they aim to cultivate. It left us scratching our heads and searching for other options to continue our evening.
In conclusion, Sliders Seaside Grill has its merits, including a relaxed beach vibe, live music, and reasonable prices. However, the poor bar service, mediocre food, and the early closing time on a Saturday night are significant drawbacks. While it may be a suitable spot for a casual meal, those seeking a more vibrant and extended evening experience may want to explore other options in...
Read moreBeing located in a tourist trappy location, the wifey, hijita, and I weren't expecting a good dining experience, just serviceable. Unfortunately, in regard to the food and service, this place is a zero-star. Let me expand. The atmosphere was nice; we got a covered patio spot, with fans overhead, and they had a booster for hijita. We proceeded to clean the table, and our wipes come out black as soot. The table clearly doesn't get regular or proper cleaning. Cleanliness: zero. The server was very chatty and friendly, but he proceeded to offend wifey with his comments about parenting (I took it as a joke, but watch out for other perceptions, no?). He never offered a refill to wifey, and when we were done, it was threatening to rain, so he rushed us out to get other customers in. Service very poor. As for the food, this was by far the worst part. We started with a "crab and lobster" dip that was straight warmed over cream cheese with a pile of bread. No crab or lobster to speak of; I think we found a strand of mystery meat. It was gross tasting and texture wise. My lowcountry boil was very sad. The shrimp had no flavor, as if they boiled it in regular toilet water, and then sprinkled old bay on top. Insipid shrimp flavor. The potatoes and corn at least tasted of seasoning, and the 2 pieces of sausage were serviceable; very chewy casing and all. The only decent part of our meal was the fried shrimp, that at least was edible. To summarize, we didn't expect good food, just serviceable food out of a Sysco or US Foods trailer, but they successfully ruined those ingredients as well. This place is only serviceable to have a drink during happy hour, sitting on the beach tables. That's it. If you want to eat a decent meal, try your (crapshoot) luck somewhere on...
Read moreStopped here for a bite after a day at the beach around 6:30 PM. We had a large party but the wait was only 15-20 minutes which was reasonable. We had a lot if kids with us and the slides and sand that were available for them to play made passing the time a breeze paired with a lice reggae band. We ordered appetizers and the kids food when we sat down since we had already reviewed the menu and it was possibly the fastest I've ever received food. It was less than 5 minutes from when the waitress submitted the order on her tablet and the food started coming out.
The fried pickles were really good, light breading yielded to the still juicy pickle chips inside. The giant pretzel was also really good, it looked freshly made and the cheese sauce was tasty. The calamari we ordered was fine, it was all rings and nothing special...I'd skip it unless you love calamari.
The kids got all of the items on the kids menu I think, and everyone enjoyed the food save the chicken tenders because they were fried a bit hard and were darker than she was used to. My wife had the scallops entree and it was good but we both agreed the sweet barbecue sauce on top was bit unusual and didn't add anything to it. I had the creole redfish and found the fish to be a touch dry but overall it was fine when you ate it all together. My sister had the seafood platter, but just grilled and was sad to find that it didn't taste like they seasoned it...she wanted some flavor beyond just the char of the grill. Overall I'd rate the food as a 3.5 and the atmosphere and entertainment a 5. I'd come back for drinks and appetizers or with kids again but not for...
