The Beach Store & More — Local services in Fernandina Beach

I stopped by Beach Rentals this week to grab a kayak for a couple hours while in town. I was absolutely blown away by my experience. It appeared to be a couple running the store, and they had to be the most helpful, resourceful, and customer oriented store owners I've ever come across.

When asking for the kayak, they recommended I look at renting a board instead -- which was a much cheaper rental -- because the tide was heading out and waves would have made the experience pretty miserable. They had live data on the weather, tides, wave heights and frequency, and was pretty insistent I went with something that'd be fun --and less expensive.

They were extremely accommodating and friendly, offering tips and suggestions. I think I was more taken back by them suggesting I take a more cost-effective option so I'd have a better experience. Certainly something I've never experienced when renting ocean gear from other like places --which I do frequently when travelling.

Such an incredible experience and kudos for the owners on how they run their business. They aren't just pushing you into what they can make the most money off, they truly want the best experience for their customers --what a concept.

The prices for their rentals I felt were very reasonable anyway, however, when I returned the rented board, they only charged half of what the full rental price was because I didn't have for a full two hours.

Our first visit was fine - the gentleman working was friendly. My children had been wanting swim masks that cover their noses. They found some labeled 3+. We got 2 of them. My daughter attempted to wear hers, but it was so small it kept popping off her face. My son started to try his, so the package was cut but not opened all the way once we realized the other was too small. I went back to the store today to attempt to exchange the unused item. I was told it could not be returned unused because the package had been cut. These masks were poor quality and at $9.99 each, priced high. The poor customer service gets them 1 star from this local who moved away but returned to show my family what a great place it is. No, apology was given. I cannot recommend this business. Locally owned with friendly service and great prices! My beach chair strap broke right before our vacation and I knew I had to replace it, but didn't have time. I figured I'd be able to find a replacement in the area on our trip. Our first stop was at a chain place on the way into town but I refused to pay $55+ for a flimsy no-name beach chair that I figured wouldn't last me the weekend. I'm glad I passed up because the chairs at The Beach Store were much more resonable in price and of much better quality.
