As far as Hampton's Inns go, it was pretty nice. It was in a good location very close to the beach. The real hassle was in the reservation. I had to have my Hilton Honors number to get the best deal, but did not have it on me. I had to call their 1-800 number and got someone who spoke English as a second language. The gap was too large for us and she booked me into the wrong hotel a few miles away. It wasn't a big deal as either of these would have been fine, but it could have been a big deal for most. I just drove to the next one once they looked it up. At the actual hotel, it was good. The desk staff was nice and housekeeping was very nice. I will mention breakfast since I didn't see a lot on it in other reviews I looked at before I booked. They had a couple hot items once a day. It is not as good as a Residence Inn but it was ok. Each day one was usually seasoned potatoes. There was a steak and egg taco one day (light on "steak" of course) and it was good. There was some ham slices another day. They had some boilded eggs (which I love), fruit, cereals, milk, 4 juices, waffle makers with toppings, and other standard hotel fare. Not bad for a 2/3 star hotel. The room was nice. Other reviews complained of a smell throughout the hotel, and that was accurate. It is a sewer smell but the water there is so awful, probably from hydrogen sulfide, that the actual tap water could be the cause if they have well water for tap water. The water is terrible out of the tap, but if you leave it out for hours it isn't that bad. That is usually HS offgassing. I have a CPAP machine and can't use it in Fernandina without letting water sit all day or buying bottled. I've learned to let it "off gas" all day and it isn't bad. They could also have a sewer issue as I smelled it in the halls as well but it was most prevalent in the room, near the tub and sink where tap water sits in pea traps 24-7 (this keeps sewer gas from getting into a home, ironically which would smell like HS). It isn't a huge deal and you get used to it. It is not in the concentration where it displays air and you die in your sleep. It just smells like dog farts. I will say other hotels in FB don't have this issue. The bed had some serious softness/weakness on the phone side where most people would sleep. They should probably turn that mattress. I was worried I would roll off so I slept closer to the middle. The TV and selection were outstanding. The internet worked well and I was at the very back by the pool. Their dog fee is reasonable. The property is nice and the dog can walk well around there or down the sidewalk on Sadler. The cookies they put out at night were good. They let me stay to 1230pm on checkout day but be aware, they want people out by 11am, which is kinda early to me in most places. Marriott's and others are a little better about this. They are probably more flexible usually but it was a busy weekend in town. There was a fair amount of hand ringing and "doing me a favor" body language to stay to 1230pm when 12 is generally standard. Parking was tight which included someone taking 5 to 7 spaces with a boat. One of the side doors didn't work and the hotel is very long. Therefore there were some seriously long walks with bags for people who parked by it thinking it would work. All in all I would stay there again. You get used to the smells and problems. Bed was good even with the sagging roll out spot. I love having weak soft pillows but there were no firm ones. I like having one firm one. All 4 were soft as feathers. I was ok with it but if you need a hard one, you may have to request it...
Read moreI have always stayed at Hilton Brand hotels, so I was incredibly disappointed in this stay. I was in town for a funeral. I opted for a digital key as I wanted to head straight to my room after a 10 hour drive. However, I had to come in through the main door as my digital key didn't open any of the other doors. I decided to go to the room anyway to see if I could at least drop my things off. The digital key opened the room but no other doors into the hotel or its amenities. The shared link for the key sent to my husband didn't open any door, not even to the room. I went downstairs to the front desk to let them know the issues I was having and asked for card Keys just to make it easier. I explained to her the issues that was having and she said very loudly to the entire lobby and everyone in it that while it was unusual for that to happen but she noticed that I paid a lower rate and that could be the problem. And I said I'm sorry what? She said well you paid for a semi-flex rate which is a cheaper rate so that could be why it's not opening the other doors. And I said well I wasn't aware that paying a cheaper rate excluded me from being able to access the hotel with my digital key. Also I have used the semi-flex rate before when I know that I'm going to need a room and there's no chance of me canceling then yes I choose that option to save a few dollars. But it has never been an issue me using the digital key to access anything other than my room. And for her to say that as loudly as she did to the entire Lobby was incredibly unprofessional and very disrespectful in my opinion. She gives me two keys and resends the digital key, however it still only opened the room and only one of the key cards worked. At that point I didn't care anymore I just needed to put my things down and leave so that we could go meet our family because as I stated earlier we were in town for a funeral. We come back very very late and then get up very early in the morning to get ready to get dressed to go to the services and we were going to check out when we left. Upon arrival the room and appeared to be clean however I stepped in the shower and immediately black just started pouring off of the bottom of my feet I didn't realize how disgusting the floors in the room were until the following morning. There was mold in the bathroom the fixtures were rusty and there was zero privacy in there. The curtains on the window into the bedroom did not close. There was no way to close them. There is sheer liner curtain but the actual curtain does not close, there's not even a track all the way around for the curtain to close. Overall very disappointed. We visit the island frequently but won't stay here. The last photo is what came off my feet after walking from the shower...
Read moreI would give 0 stars if I could. Dont stay here!!!!!!! There is structural damage at this facility. The 2 floor has a slope. The facility stinks and house keeping staff need to be told to clean rooms. Do everyone a favor and report this facility to the fire marshall for the area or anyone who can enforce buildings to fix structural damage, sulfur and burning electrical smells coming from the ac and just overall trace down what the unpleasant ordor is and eliminate it. How do they pass health code inspections? The manager told members of my family that the unpleasant smell coming from the ac vent was in fact Sulfur. DONT STAY HERE!!!!
And lastly, one of house keepers, stole some of my personal hygiene items.
Response to Owner: A complimentary night stay for each room isnt enough for stained sheets, hair in the bed, a slope on the second floor, having to ask housekeeping more than once to clean the rooms, having a sulfur and electrical burning smell come from the ac in room 203, and a mildew musty smell in 205, having sand in the bed and bugs in the room. This hotel needs to close, and completely remodel the entire hotel including fixing the slope on floor 2 and nasty smell on floors 2 and 3. Perhaps a new manager, is necessary as well. Once again, no matter what the owner says, DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY at this hotel or PUT YOUR HEALTH AT RISK. Stay somewhere else that's healthy, where you wont have to make your own bed upon arrival, where employees wont steal your personal items and where the manager cares about the people who spend money to stay in a healthy environment. One employee Ms. Vickie informed me in conversation that the housekeepers dont throughly clean room because they are always rushing. She further said she often has to go behind them and clean up what they havent. Not by choice bc she has OCD like my mom or just isnt satisfied unless she does something the way she wants it done, but because the rooms arent cleaned and do not...
