My family has been enjoying the amazingly delicious food from this restaurant for literally decades now. You haven't lived until you try the sauce that is provided for the egg rolls. It is my favorite, and I encourage everyone to try it on your fried rice as well! When I moved out of state for a few years I tried so many different Chinese food places, hoping to find an egg roll that could compare to Hong Kong 1, but I was sadly disappointed. How can any other compare when your raised on the gold standard? Also fabulous is the Almond Chicken, Fried Shrimp, Sweet n' Sour pork/chicken, and the Wonton Soup. My mom swears by the General Paul's Chicken (Its General Tso's chicken, just renamed after the original owners) Those are my usual rotating order, but quite honestly I've never had anything I didn't like from Hong Kong One!
On a personal note, I want to express my respect and admiration for the family that owns this restaurant. They are all amazing, and the patriarch was a wonderful man named Paul. The family's original restaurant on Woodward was named Golden Star. It was a highlight of my youth when for a treat my family would go for a sit down dinner there. Paul and his family always treated my family like honored guests. He would remember our names, ask and remember what was going on in our lives and our favorites to order. As a little girl at the time, Paul always made me feel like quite the Lady, serving me Oolong tea in lovely dainty teacups as I enjoyed the best fried rice and egg rolls in Oakland County. It was a shame when the original restaurant closed and moved, but most of their business was carryout, so it was the smart business move. Paul worked so hard everyday, but he did it with a smile and a kind word for all of his customers. If there was ever a man that deserved to retire and enjoy his golden years, it was Paul. He passed away a few years ago, and its my humble opinion that Ferndale lost one of it best citizens in the community. He will be greatly missed and fondly...

September 2020. The resturaunt was closed due to a firer. We missed it. The second weekend we learned it was open a family member went and bought the scrimp fried rice and the
Well I for one could not put my finger on it. But it did not taste like what I remembered. It was like seasonings were missing. The shrimp fried rice to me had no taste. It tasted burnt, I always like their shrimp fried rice. I could only wonder what happened. I was greatly disappointed. I will wait and see if things improve. I sincerely hope so. September 2021 We have bought the shrimp fried rice so many times now, it is even better than I remember. I tried some other items on the menu. My family and friends found the food excellent. We will be trying other things on the menu. Please keep up the good work. I know we will keep...

My egg roll in my dinner combo was nice and crunchy, mostly cabbage and lots of bean sprouts, again decent. The chicken was yummy, great flavor, crunchy. The rice, however, was my sole reason for giving it 3 stars. If you look at the rice some of the other photos people have posted, it looks pretty good! Sure it has no corn or carrots but it's fried rice still. But mine was mostly pieces, like the bottom of the fried rice batch or something. Dry. So very dry. I think this isn't the norm for this place and I just got unlucky, but it was a bummer. Otherwise for what you pay it's a great deal just not stellar. I'm gonna go back again and see how the fried rice is next time, I'd still...
