If I had food from there, I'd put in a different rating than 1 star. The reason why I put down one star for food is because I never got the food. It was actually because I was UNABLE to place an order with Fern's Cafe. First of all, I'm deaf and I rely heavily on using mobile apps to place orders because it's easy and convenient.
Well, the other night, my friends and I wanted to try something different and we decided on trying Fern's Cafe. I was in charge of ordering and I said, I prefer ordering via mobile apps. Fern's Cafe didn't have one. No problem. I can just call using the relay service -- a service where the relay operator serves as a "man in the middle", relaying messages back and forth between me and the other party. Tried calling the first time, no one picked up the phone after the 15th ring. I hung up and tried calling again. This time around, someone picked up the phone after the 9th ring and there were silence on the other end, followed by a hang up. No "How may I help you?" or "Will this be for delivery or pick up?". Just silence.
Called the third time and again, it went to 15 rings and I had to hang up again. Tried again and around the 8th or so ring, someone picked up and again, silence followed by a hang up. I thought maybe I'll try my luck one more time and called again. Finally someone picked up and said, "STOP HARASSING US!!! IF YOU CALL US ONE MORE TIME, WE WILL CALL THE POLICE AND REPORT YOU FOR HARASSMENT!!" and hung up.
Oh... cool. So a deaf person trying to call an establishment via a tool designed to help a deaf person communicate with hearing people is being viewed as "harassment" now? They didn't even make an attempt to communicate with me when there were silence twice. Had they made an attempt to talk to me, they would have found out why I was calling 5 times but nah. Apparently they do not want our business. Too bad as they lost out on a very large order (There were about 20 of us wanting to order something from there).
So yeah, food got one star (would have been 0 stars but I can't set it to that as we haven't tried their food yet), service obviously -5 stars and yes, that's NEGATIVE 5 stars, and overall, I will not go there to eat if I know that's how they will treat deaf people. They really need to work on their phone skills as it's apparently lacking big time. And it's quite clear they do not have excellent personalities either after reading a couple of reviews online. Read moreRude staff, we were accused of not tipping enough when in fact we tipped the usual 25% which our tab was around $26 and we tipped $6. The server had the audacity to come over to our table after we paid and said “you didn’t tip, where is the tip”. I was extremely confused as to who are you to come up to a paying customer and accuse them of not tipping when indeed we tipped in cash and the bartender didn’t receive their end of the tip so our server made it a point to embarrass us in front of our friends. My husband walked over to the bartender to make the situation right and again was berated by the staff and made to feel bad about not tipping the bartender after our bill was paid and the drinks that were served to us by the bartender were already on the ONE bill we received at the end of the night. I’m sorry but that is not our fault those drinks were placed on one bill, maybe you should of cashed us out there to begin with for serving us a total 2 drinks between two people and then we could sit down at our table and pay a separate bill. Or you as a bartender could talk to the server who received the whole 25% tip that WE PAID. Not accuse customers of not tipping enough. We were taken a back and have never been treated this way, extremely disappointed with how unprofessional and disrespectful the staff was. Read moreWe normally love going to The Fern, we hadn’t been in a little while and decided to go for drinks/dinner. We got a table near the bar and waited approx 15 mins and had no one come to see us. My boyfriend went to the bar and was ignored there as well and rudely told by the bartender that he was standing where her friends are sitting and they would be back (she held open seats at the bar for over 30 mins for people who weren’t even there). He told her he just wanted to order some drinks and get a menu and her reply was “well if you go back to your table someone will do that”.
Finally got a server, got some drinks and waters. Water was warm with no ice in it. Ordered food and they got my meal wrong twice (after the second time they said they were mixing the southwest rice with the Greek gyro bowl from now on, which makes absolutely no sense to mix those ingredients).
Could also see the bartender and waitress talking about us from across the bar as they whispered and pointed in our direction.
At this point we paid our bill and left without eating. The gyro bowl was comped. I tried posting a review on the Findlay Neighbors Helping Neighbors Facebook page and it was taken...
