TLDR at the bottom.
I am always especially cautious in my reviews of businesses now due to the hardships I know they face because of the pandemic, but this was an experience that just fell completely short of a good meal.
This meal was my first actual meal out of my house in a year that wasn't carry-out and I actually ate at the restaurant with a friend. The wait was fair, staff was friendly, and I had high hopes initially, but the food fell so short of anything good that even calling it mediocre was a stretch.
I was torn between ordering the Crabby Patty Bennie or the Surfer Girl, and the Waitstaff suggested the Surfer Girl being more popular, so I went with it. It was supposed to be an omelet filled with wild mushrooms, Pico, cream cheese, and several other vegies. It came with a muffin (the everything muffin) and a choice of other side, I chose the grits of the day as I love grits, even if they aren't as good as the southern one's I was raised on.
Let's start with the omelet. Have you ever had eggs that are cooked so over hard as an omelet that they take on a spongy almost inedible texture? Well, keep going and that was this omelet. It was as if a cook had dumped some overwhipped egg into a pan, cooked it as hard as they could, then put about a tsp of some cream cheese/sour cream mixture inside and topped it with week old watery pico. The few other ingredients were so unfresh I did something I rarely do...I couldn't eat it. I kept trying thinking I just had to get further into the omelet, but it never improved. I had a total of 2 bites of mushroom, definitely not 'wild' as the description made them out to be but rather sad little pieces of something that might have once been a mushroom.
Grits of the day were described as grits with bacon and sausage bit along with a variety of cheese. I'm southern by blood, so I have a fairly high standard for grits, but living in the Midwest means any I can find are normally a happy thing since its rare in these parts. These were bland, with only a slight taste of having a bit of bacon grease added for flavor. Sadly, these were probably the best part of the meal in my mind, and that is really saying something.
The everything muffin could have been phenomenal, but instead they took something with amazing flavors and overcooked it (theme here maybe?) until it was so dry even butter couldn't save it. I am actually so into this idea I'm going to look up and make my own at home, but while this had the potential to be utterly amazing it like everything was so overcooked it was nearly inedible.
Lastly, I paid nearly $6 for a specialty coffee of the day, described by the server as pistachio with a hint of cream. It came topped with some Redi-whip (okay not mad I love whipped cream) and the coffee itself had a delicate wonderful taste, but it was really, really watered-down. I have to say this might have been my favorite part of the meal, even though I like espresso and strong coffee, just because the light, delicate pistachio flavor was so amazing, but they like everything had a product that could have been a knock out and instead missed the mark by a long shot.
TLDR: potential to have a killer menu and excellent food but instead take all the thing that could be good and overcook until inedible and absolutely NOT worth it. $20 meal ($25 with tip) that tasted 10x worse than a $1 meal from fast food. Would NOT...
Read moreWe had eaten at the Carmel location a few months ago and it rocked! Since we were heading out of Indy this morning we Googled to see other locations and saw Fishers was on our way. Pulling in we saw a worker outback puffing on her cigarette. Jokingly, I said, "I hope she's a server!" Well, guess what? She was. I don't care if someone smokes, but pulling in the parking lot it's not a good look. We were seated quickly and noticed the restaurant was as clean as the other, which was a good sign. We sat for several minutes and counted three different servers on the floor, but no one greeted us. When Sarah showed up she was engaging. She took her time to walk through the menu with us and made recommendations. We eventually placed our order and waited. And waited some more. Time passed and we were still waiting. Two tables were seated after us and received food before us. We didn't understand, but didn't ask either. Since I thoroughly enjoyed the country fried steak in Carmel I went with what I knew. The Angus burger was tempting, though. The food was delicious! The meat was smaller than what I remembered, but was excellent nevertheless. My wife and daughter enjoyed there meals as well. They each got the "Mad Platter" and had extra to take home. The home fries are fabulous! We joked we may just order those next time. We'll be passing through again in a few weeks and may opt...

STARS 10 — if 10 stars was possible, that’s what I would give Wild Eggs in Fishers. From the GM on down, all the staff work extremely hard to make your dining experience one to delight in. I’ve been here from the time they open to noon meals, even on Mother’s Day, and see firsthand the crowds coming in to dine. There must be a reason people are willing to wait — the food and service is exemplary. Yes, during peak times Ive had to wait a bit but let’s be real, I’ve been in other restaurants I’ve had to wait longer and the service and quality of food is not up to par. If you want first class service and food make Wild Eggs your next...
