Rolling Pin Bake Shop — Restaurant in Fitchburg

First off, please note that I gave it three stars. The store is gorgeous inside. All of the pastries look incredibly good. I have no doubt if we got one of their cakes or donuts or other confections, we would enjoy them. I made the mistake of getting two apple fritters. They were two dollars each. Let me say that the $.79 apple fritters from pick ‘n save are much better, as are Kwik Trip’s. As far as I could tell, despite having asked and being told that there were apple pieces in the fritters, it was difficult to detect any. It was pretty much just lightly fried dough. The only saving grace was that they weren’t greasy. There wasn’t even much glaze on it. I was quite surprised given how incredible everything else looked.

I should add that everything is priced on the high side of what local bakeries charge. Just stay away from the apple fritters unless the management takes into account this input and alters them significantly.

Unlike anything in Madison, The Rolling Pin is a European styled bakery featuring daily specials, regular items and weekend gourmet donuts. To be served on a plate with a real fork and knife along with a ceramic coffee cup is becoming a rarity around town. Not at the Rolling Pin. Pull up a chair and experience the friendly confines of a kitchen that runs non-stop during open hours. Home made breakfasts and lunches can be a beginning. The servings are generous. Prepare for a treat from the rotating cooler or from the display cases. Or better yet, have a custom cake designed for your event. Amazing! Best cakes in all of Wisconsin. Really. Stepped into have a lunch. Friendly service. They have great menu system; two separate sheets for breakfast (pink) and lunch (white). I posted both in photos. They are known for their desserts but we were starving for food. Ordered a Cuban sandwich, potato pancakes, and a steak sandwich. Prices are in line with what you would encounter in similar cafes. The wait for the food was quite long, worth the wait but took over 15-20min. The winner was the Cuban sandwich - I will be going back for it. The potato pancakes came in second place - so good and not soggy with grease! Amazing! We enjoyed all. You probably are wondering what about the steak sandwich; good flavor in chimichurri sauce and everything but the steak cut was not great; tough and grisly. It’s a busy spot, people coming and going, picking up or ordering cakes. They have tables indoor and outdoor to sit and eat. There is no table service; you order at the counter and pay.
