Pulled pork: decent.
Brisket: possibly the worst I’ve ever had, no hyperbole. I’d liken it to a poor man’s over-done roast beef. Thin sliced and dry as a bone, I've had better beef jerky.
Sides:
baked beans—better than most you'll find in a restaurant around WNC, but I couldn’t taste the expected deliciousness of smokey nuances on my tongue due to the pungent acidity of the mustard in the sauce. They were good, but tone the mustard down a bit so we can taste the time and energy that went in to slow smoking these things "for hours."
potato salad --creative, unique, well balanced and perfectly textured. Honestly, I think these were the highlight of my meal.
The Sauces: a broad, creative selection with some tasty (and not so tasty) options, but creative nonetheless.
Finally, I know Western North Carolina's native daughters and sons are fading quickly due to the beauty, attraction and influx of folks migrating to the area, but the sweet tea I had, "ain't from around here," either. The distinct and perfectly balanced sweet, bitter and aromatic notes of the South's beloved elixir just wasn't there. I had a cup of slightly discolored, slightly sweet water. Order some Luzianne, double up on your brewing measurements, and serve the people a glass of sweet tea that will quench their thirst with the appropriate opulence of this classic, Southern beverage.
If you’re looking for nuanced flavor and appreciate the craft of bbq, this ain’t your place. I’d give the food 2.5 stars. Because the staff are hospitable, caring and welcoming, and because the patio is quaint and inviting, for those who enjoy outdoor seating, I’ll leave the overall experience with 3 stars. The place is a win both aesthetically and hospitality wise. However, like others have mentioned before me, if it's the barbecue you're after, there are other great...
Read moreThis pertains to the catering side of Hubba Hubba. I worked a graduation event they catered on Friday, June 26, 2025, and have to say of all the caterers I have worked with over the years, (for various companies), Hubba Hubba’s service far exceeded anything I expected. Their catering staff provided a delicious meal, kept moving the whole time, while respecting the limited space in the kitchen (and shared it beautifully). Their crew kept plates filled, collected empty glasses as they went, washed them, stacked them, emptied trash, and over all, made the impossible most nights possible on this night! We ALL went home on time! Their pride in their work and commitment to customer service was nothing short of amazing! I have no idea what the per-plate cost, but with a daughter getting married in the next year, I will be calling on them for our wedding reception needs. 10/10 in every area. The food was great and service was fantastic! I didn’t catch names, but please let whomever was on duty that night that our staff was grateful for their consideration of limited kitchen space and their commitment to excellence (they even fed our staff dinner). In a world of “working harder to avoid work, than you have to do to actually work, they...
Read moreWe had Hubba Hubba Smokehouse cater a corporate event at a local winery based on the winery's suggestion. I worked with Jeff and Jody, which I recommend you do too. These are some wonderful human beings. The 28 of us loved how hospitable these two were. Well above and beyond.
Ok, now about the food. We wanted a NC bbq experience because our attendees were from around the country. They did not disappoint. I'm sure all their meat is awesome, but we had pulled pork, brisket and ribs. Three different sauces, that were all incredible. NC Cole slaw and cheese grits that my attendees couldn't stop eating. The bbq beans were unique and delicious because there were multiple bean varieties being used rather than the typical bbq bean.
Topped it off with a unique banana pudding that almost put us to sleep from being full and satisfied.
They set up and tore down, nothing required on my end but to entertain my guests.
No question, we will use them again the next time we visit Asheville for a...
