Matt's Red Roster is one of those places that should be on every diner's rotation. My wife and I come here about 3 times a year, and every time the food is excellent. This time was no different. We were on our way to Flemington to try out a local brewery and cap the night at MRR. Unfortunately the weather was snowy/icy and MRR was going to close early to allow staff to safely travel home. They called us to let us know our reservation was going to fall in the time slot they wanted to close, and gave us the opportunity to dine earlier. If course, we chose to dine earlier and skip the brewery. When we got to the door we were immediately brought upstairs. Our waitress was polite, despite clearly being very busy. We started with east coast oysters and the deviled eggs special, which had wasabi mixed into the yolks, topped with ahi tuna, and finished with a soy glaze. Incredible flavor, beautiful presentation. For dinner, my wife got scallops with a side of wild mushroom risotto, and I had a sous vide fillet with a bleu cheese crust and an add-on lobster tail. To say it was excellent isn't enough. Each bite after the first made it practically impossible to leave with leftovers. My steak and lobster tail were so perfectly prepared you'd have questioned if my plate even came out with food on it to begin with once I was done. My wife's scallops practically flaked apart under the weight of her fork. For dessert, we shared a mint chocolate chip bread pudding topped with vanilla ice cream. We destroyed the desert. My wife even commented that she hoped nobody saw us eating it because we probably looked like wolves. Eat at MRR, it's damn good food.

What a wonderful spot in downtown Flemington! Located just off the main drag in an old home, this place is as charming as the food is delicious. There’s outdoor seating on street level, front porch, main level, and up a fairly steep flight of stairs on the second level. It’s BYOB so come prepared! Loved the atmosphere. Excellent service provided by David. And the meal? Oh, the meal. Bread service was great. Warm bread with a crisp crust, delicious salty butter, and an apple balsamic spread which was a bit tart for my taste. From their summer menu we shared risotto cakes topped with lump crab, fresh corn, lime, and honey. What a great combo! Then on to the grilled romaine salad. Somehow chef was able to impart a smokey grilled char while maintaining the crispness of the lettuce. A bit too much cheese for my taste and the cheese was like pre-shredded from the market, but tasty nonetheless. The risotto with scallops was wonderful. Appreciated that the scallops were not overcooked. The carrot and ginger flavors were lovely. Decaf coffee served with a mini biscotti — nice touch! Even my mint chocolate chip ice cream was attractively presented. But do wish I’d ordered the fruit and marscapone dessert; tasted my sister’s and it was awesome. Overall a wonderful evening. Will most definitely return next time I’m in this part of the world!

Wonderful experience. Mary was our server and explained everything well. There were a few specials that I order the cowboy steak from. The flat bread was tasty but not my thing as the 'bread' is more like a large cracker. Not bad, I just prefer softer. The cowboy steak was fantastic. Cooked medium rare as requested. As I cannot eat spinach the chef produced a great medley of crunchy zucchini slices, yellow and green that was great. Even though very busy we did not feel rushed on our 6pm reservation. To finish the coffee was really good. Quite a few desert choices. The bread pudding although presented as blueberry, turned out to be peach. Was good but when made as a single serving I think it looses the consistency that bread pudding made in a pan and then cut out in chunks, has. That is just a personal preference. The food here is fantastic. The service some of the best anywhere. They serve on the ground floor (maybe 8 steps up out side to porch that has one 4 top and two 2 tops) and inside tables and they serve upstairs where there is a semi private room that seats 8 to 10 and a dining room. The stairs are steep but we had a very good experience upstairs. Dining is well paced and a joy looking forward to our next visit. PS we paid on average $75 per person including tip.

Our new favorite restaurant is Matt's Red Rooster Grill!! Hubby took his dear Mom & I here for dinner (Reservations are required). This enchanting Victorian home-turned-restaurant is -in a word - marvelous! Soft lighting, charming decor + friendly & knowledgeable staff welcome you in. There's a clear view of the kitchen which I hope to observe next time. And there WILL be a next time. 😊 We were shown to an upstairs room that was a little quieter and absolutely lovely!

Our truly splendid waitress, Marisa, promptly introduced herself, & listed the various specials of the day. She very patiently & knowledgeably answered my many questions with clear explanations. While checking in on us occasionally to get our orders & such, we never felt rushed or otherwise uncomfortable. Quite the contrary!

The complimentary loaf of sliced bread was brought out with a ramekin of Apple Balsamic Vinaigrette (?) that I would drink, if it were allowed - so good!! Hubby & I requested the Rustic Wild Mushroom Soup - absolutely scrumptious!! The flavors of this lightly creamy soup with the textures of finely shaved mushrooms, onions, etc - I am drooling just thinking about it. Mum enjoyed her Apple Cider Brined Pork Chop that she found to be perfectly cooked and tender. Hubby generously shared a bite of his Cowboy Steak - the Dry Aged Steak of the Night - and it was oh-so-tender and tasty!! I struggled to not scarf down my Grilled Shrimp Pasta made with fresh pappardelle, spinach, tomato garlic sauce and shaved parmesan cheese. Mmmm, the flavors and textures of each dish complement each other in the tastiest way, without being too heavy or rich. They are just right.

If you don't BYOB - Bring Your Own Bottle - Matt's Red Rooster Grill has a wine list from Unionville Wineries to choose from. Mum & I enjoyed the off-dry, but subtly fruity & very smooth Grüner Veltfiner wine. Will visit UW soon, hopefully, to get more.

Summary: the restaurant itself is absolutely charming and welcoming, friendly staff are marvelous - we adore Marisa and cannot praise her enough, and the dishes are amazing!...
