Wow what a pleasant surprise! From the moment we walked in we were presented with a fresh clean lively fun inviting atmosphere! Fun background music playing but not too loud just right. Well laid out with tables or booth or countertop whatever your seating preference they had you covered. We were promptly greeted and seated and our waitress came over and boy was Denise a lot of fun! She's got old school customer service waitress written all over her. The menu is pretty expansive with a wide variety of items some that don't necessarily fit into a particular genre. I had the three tacos mix and match, brisket, shrimp and mojo pork! I got to say it was absolutely amazing! I can't wait to try some of the other items cuz I'm sure they'll be just as good but I will say that brisket was off the chain! My wife on the other hand had a veggie crunchwrap, which looked amazing when it showed up at the table. She said it was so good that they ought to rename the menu item after her! Everything was hot and fresh and spot on! We will definitely be back to try other items on the menu. Denise kept everything going did a great job. She helped us navigate through the menu and answer some questions we had about some of the food items and took great care of us through the course of our meal.

POV: If you are a teenager , and you plan on going here for happy hour. REMEMBER TO TIP WELL. I understand you may have never worked service industry jobs before so here's some friendly advice. If $15 tacos become $2.50 --tip on the percentage your bill would have been. They tipshare here 😬If you can't afford to tip, don't eat out 🤌 our poor server had loud rowdy group of teens with a 100+ tab and left a $6 tip . Not cool. On a side note. The service, food and whole environment is awesome. Texas does the $2.50 tacos and no one does tacos as good as Texas but this spot pulls on my heart strings. Thanks again. When ever we come to st Augustine we will be stopping in ā¤ļø

Finally got to try this place. Friendly staff, nice outdoor seating area too. My wife and I both tried the burgers. Overall they were OK; we asked for medium and they were more towards the well done side, and the waffle fries were cold. However, I’ll cut them some slack since this is not a burger joint. It was still a decent burger, just not great. I’ll still be coming back here since there are a lot of other menu items I want to try which I’m sure will be much better! I’ll update my review and star rating after my next visit :) Edit: We went back to try the shrimp tacos, avocado, roasted red pepper tacos and the Cuban sandwich. Everything was delicious!

First the good: The hostess and our server were both very nice. The restaurant is clean and welcoming. The food all seemed to be made with good ingredients and cooked nicely, however, everything we ordered except the brisket taco had no flavor. We had the chips and guacamole as a starter. The avocado was fresh and ripe and the portion was nice but there seemed to be not even a pinch of salt in the chips or the guacamole. It really just seemed like smashed avocado with some salt free chips. For dinner I had three tacos: a brisket taco, a steak taco, and a dynamite shrimp taco. The brisket taco was good, it had good flavor, and the brisket was cooked nicely. The steak taco was bland, it had a sauce on it, but again there was a lack of seasoning. The dynamite shrimp taco was also bland, a decent sauce over unseasoned food didn’t do much. My wife had the ā€œCaliforniaā€ burrito. The burrito was also lacking flavor, the steak pieces were very finely chopped, and the waffle fries pieces were about the size of a dime. I had a Modelo draft with dinner and it was flat. I will freely admit that I did not complain to anyone at the restaurant. The food was hot, and the ingredients were mostly fine, but I felt complaining about lack of flavor or salt wasn’t going to do much. I joked with a friend the following day that I think the person coming up with the recipes thinks that...

I had high hopes for Back 40 considering it’s one of the higher rated food joints in the area but the food was pretty disappointing. I came in for dinner with my spouse and kid and we ordered the queso, island bowl with jerk chicken, Buffalo chicken quesadilla and kids’ chicken tenders.

Queso was decent but I’m no queso connoisseur. It seemed like frozen breaded tenders were used for the kids meal and Buffalo chicken quesadilla and not the good kind. While more fresh than the other two meals, the island bowl was very plain and cost $5 to add jerk chicken—which also lacked any flavor. And the ā€œpico de galloā€ was really just a diced up tomato without any normal fixings like onion, cilantro, salt, lime etc. It was glorified bar food and far too expensive for the quality we received.

One star because our waiter and other staff were very kind and it felt family friendly. Perhaps it was an off day since we came in on a weekday but we would not...
