have been goi g to Big Jim's since they opened the orginal sandwich shop on Ulmerton rd. Over the years I've always enjoyed and strongly supported. About a year ago I noticed that the quality and service was slowly and continued to worsen. While I found the over all experience bad. The quality of food was less than each time. Service seamed to be very poor. But last night finally made me see I didn't need to go here ever again. It started with our server, it was obvious she didn't want to be there, no personality and just with that made us just want to leave. As I noticed other servers at tables around us they all seemed to have the same attitude. We ordered our meal, but when it arrived it looked horrible. We asked for hot sauce and peppers and was told she coukd get us one or the other? Finally she said ok. Little did we know there would be an extra charge. I ordered a steak, it was tasteless and very tough hard to even cut. I'm guessing it was old. My guest ordered the chicken flat bread, when asked to custom it with more spice we were told no. The chicken was actually cold, so dry, tasteless and tough you coukd not chew it. We decided to say so.ething, the server sad she would need to get someone to talk to us, really the sever can't address food issues? They offer to get something else. When ordered we were told they would charge us more, no offer to make it right. We agreed what else could we do. When it came to pay the bill,I had some gift cards that I found that I had put away and had forgotten. The server came back and said the gift cards were older and didn't work with their new system, so someone would come talk to us. So a gentleman came over and advised us that the cards were purchased before he had purchased the restaurant, so I asked was he not going to honor them, even though nothing indicated to the customer of new ownership. He did not answer, he just keep saying he was the new owner. So I got a little more instant, he asked why I was getting upset. I explained I had asked if he was going to honor them and he refused to answer. So I told him since it appeared that he wouldn't, I would pay the bill, but assured him I would back, he still said he didn't understand my attitude. He finally said he would honor them, but it was apparent he was not pleased. So I now understand why the quality and service has continued to deterate very poor quality food, bad cooking, and poor service. I wiil not be back, and suggest...
Read moreUPDATE YOUR GOOGLE PAGE!!! With photos of new menu!!! I don't usually read reviews, as opinions are like Pie Holes everybody has got one.
Went early in the middle of the week, only 1/5 of tables occupied. No wait to be seated. Menu and prices are not what are on the internet. The menu changed, the prices changed and the food changed from my last visit. Service wasn't too bad, but not great either. The server should inform you of an upcharge for a side. The menu I saw on the internet had the same price for all sides. I did not notice on the menu, I also didn't look, that there was an upcharge for a sweet potato fries. But honestly I wouldn't have minded the upcharge if they had been cooked properly, they were limp and not crispy. And when I said something to the server he mentioned it to the manager however when she came to the table she did not identify herself as the manager, asked how we were doing, my dining partner said good (he has dementia and always says good) so she just took his plate and left. The burgers (wild West burger) were a little on the small side but tasted real good. The cole slaw was lackluster. I knew the drink menu I was looking at, on the internet, was 3 years old but I wasn't expecting a $4.50 difference. And then 9.50 for an 8oz beer I couldn't believe when I got the bill. The server asked if we wanted desert when he brought the bill. Which I'm glad he did because after seeing the bill I new I didn't want to pay for dessert. I did want to try the molten chocolate cake however I don't know if they had it anymore seeing how the menu on the internet is 10 months old.
Now reading the other reviews I know she would not have done anything about my cold, limp sweet potato fries anyways.
If I ever do go back I know I will make my wishes clear on what I expect, and ask a lot more questions...
Read moreThis place is under new management and it now is terrible. Just drive right on by. I used to really love this place. and eat here over many years and enjoyed it. Been there a couple times recently and it has gone downhill. Went in there this evening and the place was completely empty and we still had to wait to sit. We were then brought to our table by a waitress carrying two sides of sour cream to another table. Instructed to sit where we were given three menus. There were four of us. Service seem to be very slow, even though they were only about six tables in the entire restaurant. I was brought a tavern margarita, which was the first thing on the cocktail menu and it was so terrible. I could not drink it. Then we ordered and the smoked wing appetizer was very good.
Next…a long pause before the salads came. At this point we have nothing to eat with. I had to get up and go ask for forks. The ceaser salad is an upcharge with I was okay with. Not only was it much smaller than the house salad, it contained zero croutons. The server admitted she forgot to put them in. (Ceaser salad has FOUR ingredients) next our food came before we were done with our salads.
Next…(My wife and I both ordered steak) at this point I realize we have no knives to eat with. I had to get up again to request the basic tools to eat our meal.
Next…I noticed two small cups of margarine next to my baked potato. Right away I requested some real butter. She returned and told me they have none. ZERO BUTTER IN A RESTAURANT ….wow. Couldn’t eat it.
Next…(I ordered a ribeye) cut into this steak…or tried to. I had to saw on this thing. Couldn’t eat it.
Next…my daughter’s fries were limp and undercooked…I mean how hard is it to make French fries.
Just an all around terrible experience and we will not be going back to a place we used to love...
