This wasn’t my first, second or third choice. We had just come from a long day of theme parks and a mall trip so we stopped into Calabria as it was close to our hotel and I was starving.
Upon arrival the host was very polite and delightful and so Was the other young man. We were lead to our seats and ordered our drinks. First error, my daughter ordered a Coke and received sprite. Easy fix no problem.
We started our meal off with the Buffalo wings. They were pretty good fried with just enough crisp. The Buffalo sauce wasn’t all that spicy at all and the oil from the wings really washed out the faint spice that existed. Once again another simple fix, I simply requested another side of sauce. We also ordered our wings with ranch and was served blue cheese, another easy fix.
Outcomes our salad and soup. The soup was actually pretty good however it definitely lacked the power flavors of authentic Italian food, the Greek salad dressing was a red vinaigrette that I personally didn’t care for, no herbs just the vinegar basically.
Our Entrees, I had the Veal Calabria. The veal was rubbery which means it was over cooked, this dish heavily relies on the mushrooms and wine for flavoring and I’m not sure if the mushrooms weren’t fresh or the wine was old but this dish that I’ve enjoyed on multiple occasions was absolutely horrible there was no flavor at all it simply tasted like dirt. I was extremely unimpressed and disappointed because of the reviews. My partner ordered the Veal Piccata once again over cooked veal and the consistency was like rubber and veal should actually be quite tender when cooked correctly due to the in maturity of the meat, such pity. As for the the taste of the dish well it taste exactly like lemons, that’s it just take a lemon squeeze it in your mouth after you cook it on broil for about 5-7mins and that’s this dish recreated. I have not actually had this dish in the past so I’m not entirely sure what it’s suppose to taste like, but I’ve never had a lemon inspired dish that only taste like lemons. That dish was actually the worse dish they presented us with. Lastly we ordered a large pizza, half pepperoni and half just cheese. The pizza was pretty good. It was a bit to salty in my opinion and it’s odd because every other dish lacked flavor. I really would have loved to switch my dish for penne noodles and that marinara sauce. My daughter enjoyed the pizza but only had one slice as she stated the salt made her tongue burn.
The service was fantastic up until I paid full price for 2 horribly prepared dishes that I wasn’t even given an option to correct. That I didn’t appreciate but other than that I would say, the red sauce would be great on any of their pastas and the service is wonderful however it’s not enough for me to recommend anyone to spend the money to eat at this particular establishment, it...
Read moreLet me start out by saying 65% of our meal (party of 3 adults) we would rate a 4.5 to 5. The other 35% I would rate a 3 or less based on size / presentation only. While that "other 35%" was very tasty, it left a lot to be desired. Our waitress was very pleasant and attentive.
We were informed that the antipasto, on a bed of lettuce, was big enough for 3 of us share. It was served on a dinner plate. The grilled mushrooms, roasted red peppers and Greek olives were very good. It came with one thin slice of tomato and one slice of mozzarella cheese. The ham (thinly sliced) were cut into small squares, unfortunately the pieces were so small, they stuck to the lettuce. The dressing was tasty. The bread and butter was very good.
Unfortunately, I was the member of our group that got what my husband referred to as the "shaft". I ordered the raviolis. One large dinner plate, 6 (tasty) ravioli lying in the middle, and marinara kind of dumped over the top. No garnish. No other color than white ravioli and red sauce. My husband said it was the saddest dinner he had ever seen. He even asked if I mistakenly ordered the child's plate.
My husband's meat pizza was great .... he felt so bad for me, he let me have a slice. LOL Mom had the fettuccini with olive oil, roasted garlic and broccoli and it was very good. Mom gave me...
Read moreOrdered takeout, got the chicken parmesan sub and the chicken francese. When i got in my car from picking up, I opened the bag and noticed they just put the bread that comes with the entree, right on top of the to go box with now plastic wrap or foil around it, just a piece of bread flying around in a to go bag. Once I got home, I could not eat the francese because it was just not good. It tasted much different than any francese I’ve ever had. I called them and let them know, and then took it back for a refund. One guy, assuming the manager, didn’t seem too happy that I was returning it, saying it didn’t taste good, and requesting a refund, but then a gentleman that I also assume was the owner came over. The owner was so nice and apologetic, he wanted to remake it for me but I wasn’t willing to take that chance again. He did however insist on giving me a free dessert (cheesecake) for the inconvenience. My bf said the chicken parm sub he got was great and I’ve had their pizza before which was also good. The manager was acting like this is their normal francese sauce and there was no mistake on it, so I will not be getting that ever again, I’ll stick...
