I'm so mad at myself for not coming here sooner when I lived in the area! My boyfriend and I decided to try after hearing from a Trinidadian friend how delicious the food was and she was not wrong! Located in a small shopping strip off of US1 and 160th, this place is a must try solely for all the new and wonderful flavors I had never tasted before going.
My boyfriend and I were starving when we arrived so we ordered many items to share with each other that came out as they were freshly made. The first thing we tried was the side Doubles $1.75 which were absolutely delicious and I recommend it to those that are vegetarian. Next was the Allo Pie $1.75 which was really interesting and hard to compare to anything else I've tasted-------sweet but extremely savory. The last side we ordered was the Saheena $2.00 (which was my favorite) a crispy spiced fritter with herbs throughout and a sweet almost molasses sauce on it. So yummy! Finally, we moved on to our entrees which were the Goat Roti $10.00 and the Shark & Bake $8. I absolutely loved the goat roti---the meat was cooked and flavored very well in a curry. A little bit messy to share as it is like a big wrap; next time I will order their curried goat as a platter because of personal preference. My boyfriend loves shark and he devoured the large sandwich that was a little too fishy for me but thats usually how shark tastes.
This is definitely a hole in the wall gem that is well worth adventuring to taste something new but...
Read moreMy experience for the 1st time in this establishment today was very unpleasant, I will not ever revisit. The STAFF is very rude, they do not even acknowledge you when you walk-in, after waiting for them to finish their personal conversation, a man behind the counter shouts "are you ready to order", my daughter and I tells him what we wanted, but he is so busy trying to rush us to with our order, so he can continue his conversation, he told us it'll be 20 minutes, after he correctly repeated our order. Well 20 minutes later, my daughter goes back inside to get the food, the order was messed up, instead of him admitting that he got the order wrong or even misunderstood, he yells at us saying" we're bringing trouble" ,then called us liars, "he gets madder because we simply want him to fix our order, telling him" he got the order wrong", we didn't tell it to you wrong! he starts yelling at us "now he has to throw the food in the garbage because of us", then had the nerve to say "we can't be wrong and strong at the same time, he walks from behind the counter ,throws the food in the garbage, at this point "we just say keep your food give us our money back", now he wants to rectify the issue after throwing a sissy fit. Dude, it's too late!! Your behavior was that of a 2yr old child over a ROTI!!! Wow!!!...
Read moreIf you are Trini and remember roti of the old days, Caribbean Delite will take you back there. But with the perhaps biggest wrap rotis you have ever come across. Joan has that magic touch - a sweet hand -and pretty much the entire menu is excellent. The pholouri is airy and crispy and the tamarind chutney spot on. The pumpkin is outstanding - some of the best I've ever had. I discovered Caribbean Dleite some 22 years ago when I first moved to Miami and I have been going back again and again with other Miami-Dade locals in the know year after year. Combine the food with a soft drink from Trinidad or Jamaica and you truly are transported back home.
Be warned. This is not meant to be a sit-down joint - though there are a few tables and seats. It's truly a dive/pick-up restaurant more like a true roti shop from home. Customer service is brisk and very no-nonsense (and the older gentleman who is often there taking orders has little patience), but just get past it. We have catered weddings, engagement parties, baby showers and celebrations for a hundred people with Caribbean Delite with never a problem.
Great food. Good prices. They know what they do and do it well. No frills. Nothing fancy. And a taste that will leave you wanting more and taking home extra just to prolong the...
