Was looking for a place that served Grits this morning and came across Grandpa's Diner. After reading the reviews, we decided to check it out.
Being a Sunday morning around 10a, we figured (and hoped) that morning breakfast rush had already come through. Upon arriving and walking through the door, we were greeted with a "Welcome & Thank you for stopping by". The host immediately sat us and our waitress was at our table within 2 minutes.
Our waitress was very friendly, took our drink orders. While waiting for our drinks, we went through the menu, which everything sounded great (loaded french fries with chili, cheese, jalapeño caught my eye, but we were there for breakfast not lunch/dinner). The staff was very accommodating to other around us and was cleaning thoroughly as folks left. Every staff member had a mask and was wearing it properly.
As our waitress brought us our drinks, we placed our order. (The food was delivered within 8 minutes of placing the order. Bill Total: $18.44) 1: Veggie Omelette with provolone cheese, home fries & wheat toast (light butter)
PRO- Omelette was very delicious as was the home fries. CON- Omelette was more of scrambled eggs mixed with veggies and the home fries were super greasy. Also with the extra grease on the plate it mixed with the Omelette, down playing the flavor some. TIP: order the home fries on a separate plate
2: 2 Eggs (sunny side) with bacon, bowl of grits (with American cheese) & white toast
PRO: Eggs cooked perfect, bacon was crispy and not to greasy. Grits were not running, they were a perfect combination of firm and slightly creamy. CON: No Cons on this dish, was very delicious.
We would love to come back for lunch or dinner sometime and yes we would recommend Grandpa's Diner. This cozy little hole in the wall in a Grocery plaza seems to be doing the right thing.
Thanks for checking out my review. Let me know if you recommend this place and what we should try next at...
Read moreToday, Sunday, at 7:30 am my wife and I went to Grandpa's for the first time after having read hundreds of its reviews which were mostrly positive. Although we had read several reviews about the service being rude, particularly if you were not one of the 'regulars', we decided to ignore those. Our mistake. The waitress that met us at the entrance did not greet us at all: no "good morning", no smile. Instead she gave us a look that made us feel like we were not welcomed, that we did not belong there. After she took us to a table and, literally, dropped the menus in front of us, she gave us another very unfriendly stare, turned around and walked away without a word. We were flabbergasted by her rude demeanor and felt very uncomfortable; so uncomfortable that we decided to leave after talking about it. As we walked out, a younger waitress (manager?) came out to the sidewalk to talk to us - with our waitress in tow. She asked if everything was ok. I told her about the episode with our waitress, that we were congenial people and had been made to feel quite uncomfortable by her. I also told her that Sunday is the day of God and we should be at peace, not act so rude and unfriendly. Our waitress jumped in and said "what is wrong with me?!, in a challenging manner, not an inquisitive or curious manner. Well, we did not reply because, if she didn't know what was wrong with her then there was no point in telling her. I told her that we would pray for her and left. We did not recall having been treated like that in decades at any restaurant. It pains me to leave negative feedback and I do it only in cases where it is truly deserved. This is one of those cases. We are not going back to Grandpa's but...
Read moreI’ve been to this place several times, the food is OK. It’s not good but it’s not terrible. Just a quick and easy place to eat nearby. I’ve gone in probably a dozen times with no issue however, today I went in and had a major problem. I’m eight months pregnant, on the verge of preeclampsia. I had my service dog with me who alerts to my seizures, he weighs 6 pounds, he is tiny. I’ve had this dog with me every single time I’ve ever been there, and nobody has ever said anything to me, however Today the manager took it upon himself to tell me my dog wasn’t welcome, he demanded paperwork which is illegal, and when I told him that my dog could not perform his task on the ground underneath the table because I would not be able to see him alerting to a seizure the man had his staff call the police on me. When the police notified him that what he was doing, was not legal, and he could not deny my service Animal, he then had me trespassed so that he could permanently discriminate against me, basically so he could go around the rules of having to allow my service animal. he was not discreet, he was so loud and so rude that he had half of the patronage there yelling at me. My blood pressure is already so bad that they’re thinking about taking the baby early. I hadn’t eaten yet because I had a doctors appointment. I was just trying to , get a quick bite to eat with my legal service animal by my side who had been there so many times with no issue… I’m completely disgusted. Even if he had not trespassed me, I would never go back there again, I’m literally not missing anything. The food is not that...
