In the restaurant industry it’s all about service, in my opinion the food counts for a 40% of the experience and 60% it’s all customer service. This was our first time lunch/ almost dining at the restaurant, and I would like to share my experience. I took my girlfriend and mother in law to have lunch after church and we wanted to give this restaurant a shot, we love El Cilantrillo Restaurant (Puerto Rican cuisine) and wanted to see if this one would hold a candle to Cilantrillo (it doesn’t IMO). After 25 to 30 minutes of wait we got our table and right of the back the experience started going bad, our table was not clean and even the floor had fries all over the place even between our chairs, the chairs were the most uncomfortable restaurant chairs I had ever sat on. The place was packed and we didn’t meet our server until the hostess, after several minutes of sitting us, walked by us asking if we’ve been serve. The hostess went to get our server, a really nice lady. we ordered our food around 1:39 pm it was 2:45 pm when after a few checkins with the server I told my family, we are leaving, I shared that to the server and she went to get a “manager”. The nameless “manager” black hair, huge eyelashes and big behind lady just says to us the food it’s coming now. 2:49 pm 2 out 3 plates comes out and one of the the meat was not cooked properly and while the third plate (mine) did arrive about 5 minutes after the other too it came out wrong. I called the server and without tasting my plate I asked for a to go plate, because I was so uncomfortable on those chairs and frustrated with the whole experience. I asked the server to get the “manager”, because I don’t think it’s right to and absurd amount of money for this bad experience, but also I don’t expect to get a free meal, I just wanted to give them the opportunity to do something meaningful to try to change my experience or at least to see that they care about customers and will go above and beyond to right a wrong. The “manager” comes saying that the kitchen takes about 45 minutos to an hour to get orders out, not because there’s so many others no, but because the cook everything fresh (like they are literally pealing potatoes back there to make fries). I tell this “manager” that it was never told to us that it was gonna take that long, had we knew we would have taken our money somewhere else, the “manager” proceeded to get defensive with a tone and hand gesture like we where on the streets of Puerto Rico, repeating that they cooked everything fresh like that justify the whole situation. after a while the manager said that she can only give her discount to our order and that’s the only thing she can do, interesting enough she never said what % was that “manager” discount. After several minutes our server comes with the check and in it was a MILITARY discount of 10%. I want expecting get the meal for free or even got a half price reduction, but to literally put a military discount, which btw we don’t qualified for it, because we ain’t military it’s insane, but honestly it didn’t surprise me because unfortunately I know my people, I’m Puerto Rican and I come to hate dealing in a transaction or service situation with one of my own, because just like this “manager” she just presented excuses instead of providing solutions which is the job description of Management specially in the Customer...
Read moreWe may have caught them on an off night because my family who has been here raves about them and highly recommended. Our experience wasn’t that great. We were a party of 13 I believe and we were seated right away (made reservations). There was live music going and that was great. The art work on the walls made us feel real good. Love all of the PR art and pictures. Appetizers took a bit to come out but were amazing! Where we had a not so great experience was with the main dish. First it took a very long time for the main dishes to come out. It took about an hour an 15 minutes from when we sat down at 6:30pm to get our appetizers at 7:15pm and then the main dish came out around 8:30. The time between appetizers and main dish was over an hour. Everyone was getting restless. When the food came out, most was overcooked and dry. 2 people at the table got sirloin steak, both ordered them medium but they came out well done with no red at all and very dry. One sent it back and they took it off the bill (the server agreed immediately and apologized and did everything she could to make it right) and the other person ate half but regretted not sending it back. He was so hungry for waiting so long, he chose to eat it but regretted it and couldn't finish. We didnt complain as he could have sent it back but chose to eat it. I had a sushi appetizer with churrasco and that meat came out perfect. My mofongo dinner had really good flavor but was also dry. Once you got past the cheese sauce on top (which was amazing!!), the rest of the mofongo was dry and not that enjoyable. The chicken that came with the mofongo was also very dry. Also had good flavor but was overcooked. Everyone who had the mofongo agreed. Not sure if they had a bad night or if they struggle accommodating big parties but while everyone loved the appetizers, most people at the table were not happy with the main courses.
So to sum it up, appetizers were great, rice and beans really good, drinks really good, service from our waitress was really good however the main course was less than desirable and the wait for the main course was way too long, even for Puerto Rican standards :-)
I would give it another try but would probably stick to drinks and appetizers as I really...
Read moreWent with the entire family 11 people to continue celebrating Mom's 90th birthday.. We were seated in the booth next to the stage. At first it was loud and we had to yell to communicate so we simply started singing along and made the best of it. Then the food and drinks started arriving and WOW! Everything was amazing. We're the type of family that shares food and we all ordered different things. The large fritanga appetizer trays we got were great. The small alcapurrias were good, the little empanadillas MMM, the queso frito was crunchy outside and smooth inside. Then the Puerto Rican sushi some of us ordered, OMG they are so good. My brother in law ordered the paella and that thing could feed 4. The mofongo with shrimp in garlic sauce was huge and tasted amazing, the chicken wrapped in bacon with cheese sauce was good, the mamposteao rice was really good, the breaded steak was tasty, the arañitas were crispy and big. Now the drinks I'm going to add some humor; my wife ordered an orgasm 🤔, she said it was great so my sister wanted to have one too and she enjoyed it as well so then my sister in law ordered one and she said it was good. Three orgasm in one table 🤣. I started with beers and they were cold but after my meal I ordered an old fashioned. I'm a little weary of ordering Old Fashioned because a lot of places don't know how to make such a simple cocktail and don't have the correct ice. When it arrived I noticed right away that the ice was right, I noticed the orange and then tasted it. Perfect! I asked the waitress what Bourbon they used and the bartender came to the table to ask if there was something wrong with the drink. I thought that was a good gesture because it shows that he worries about his product. I let him know that it was great. So there's our experience. I'm already thinking about returning for more Sushi and Old Fashioned. Thanks for bringing Puerto Rican original cooking to...
