Visited on 3/16 at about 6:30pm. We frequent often because the service and food is great and we've always had a pleasurable experience usually spending a good amount of money between appetizers, meals, and dessert hence the three stars based on food alone. Consistent, fresh, tasty, you can not go wrong with Guido's and the staff is usually more than helpful if its your first time visiting. This time, unfortunately, was not up to the usual standards we've come to expect from Guido's.
Service was lackluster from Chantail A., who made us feel as if we were inconveniencing her throughout our meal. Before we even slid the chairs into place upon being seated, she expected us to already know what we wanted without letting us glance over the menus. She did correct a missing item on our pizza order but only after I told her about it because letting us know in advance or asking us if we wanted it to be remade was too much trouble when she delivered it knowing that it was missing, as was the availability of extra napkins since we had to ask for them, or courtesy service. We were basically given our boxes to pack up leftovers with no regard to dessert or even asked if we were finished.
I can only assume that as the hour ticks towards closing, its time to run the customers out as quick as possible with no regard to their overall dining experience. If closing at 8pm, we still had roughly 40 mins for dessert since other wait staff weren't trying to rush along diners chatting as if sitting in their living rooms we assumed there was time, there was not. After coming here often and enjoying every single visit, this was hands down the worst trip out we've had in quite some time from anywhere.
Other wait staff assisted in boxing people's meals, other wait staff asked/clarified/and responded to customers without making them feel as if they needed to choke their food down and run from the building as if on fire. So it was an isolated experience as we usually are waited on by Tilly or a couple of the other wonderful ladies employed here. From the shotty service throughout we couldn't be bothered to track our waitress down after she tossed the boxes on our table and fled to parts unknown to let her know we wanted anything else.
We also weren't given options or choices. The only choice we were given is the clear indicator to choose another establishment to frequent if this treatment is the standard. I don't usually throw people under the bus, but when you dine at a place upwards of weekly and spend hundreds of dollars every month for the full dining experience, it needs to be addressed. We don't dine at places close to the closing times as we respect our cooks and wait staff having worked in those environments for some amount of years in the past so not entirely sure what the rush was for or why she felt the need to push us along like cattle. It was a total letdown. Do...
Read moreMy husband had been looking forward to trying this pizza for the past couple of weeks. We're from out of town, visiting my parents, and knew we had to fit it in. We came on a Friday night, next to last chance to try it before we leave Sunday morning. We arrived at 530 and were told a 45 minute wait. We debated - but really was wanted to try the pizza so we stayed. It only took 30 minutes. The wait list was backing up with regulars, so we knew that was a good sign, being so popular.
Our server, Tilly, let us know right away that if we wanted a pizza, there would be an hour wait. She wanted to get it in asap so we wouldn't have to wait any longer than necessary to get it. We could've left then, since we really just came for the pizza, but we stayed. We ordered some garlic bread and sides of pasta for the wait, since we were super hungry at this point.
They were busy, so the garlic bread and pasta took a bit to come out - but it was great when it did. My husband prefers a thicker, crustier garlic bread but I loved the softness with the crispy edges. It didn't stop him from eating most of it anyway. There were chunks of fresh garlic on top, which was great. The pasta was al dente, and the sauce was really good. It definitely hit the spot.
I'm glad we ordered pasta and garlic bread, because our pizza was going to be even longer. (We later learned OUR pizza was given to someone else and they had to make a new one. ) Tilly offered a salad and soup while we waited, and was very apologetic. The salad was everything I didn't know I was gracing- crisp, fresh, and flavorful. I loved it. My husband got the chicken soup and liked it a lot. He said the flavors were great.
When our pizza did come, it was AMAZING at first - and worth the wait. The crust was crispy and thin. The sauce was good, and the cheese was bubbly and brown.
However, we had ordered half cheese and half pepperoni...and there was hidden pepperoni on my half. I haven't eaten meat in about 30 years, so it wasn't a great surprise. My husband's half had obvious pepperoni. My half seemed like cheese, but there was pepperoni all under the cheese.
Tilly was very apologetic, offered to replace it, and more, but honestly, I was full by that point. I was able to try the outside edge piece that didn't have pepperoni, so I still got to try it for myself. My husband just had lots of leftovers, lol.
The restaurant was nice, it was clean, the hostess and our server were both friendly and competent. Even with the wait, we would've given it 5 stars if it weren't for the pepperoni being on the whole pizza.
We'll be back next time we're in town. It's a popular place, so we'll make reservations. And we'll just do 2 separate pizzas next time instead of a...
Read moreBeen going to Guidos for 15 years or more and for the most part have been satisfied. Thursday night I was not. I called to order a pizza and immediately was asked to hold. While on hold I heard the person who answered taking care of people waiting to pay. This was ok with me. She came back on the phone and took my order. When I got there no one was there to take care of me. After waiting several minutes another employee helped me. She got my order but couldn’t take my payment and that Michelle would be right with me. Michelle finally came out of the kitchen and told me she’d be right with me. At that point the phone rang and Michelle answered it. This time she didn’t put the caller on hold like she did me. She took their order and when done turned to me. She has been an employee there for years, and frankly her customer skills are definitely lacking. On more than one occasion I’ve seen her being very “uncool” with me and others. I think the reason for this is the fact that she wears too many hats and can’t handle it. As for the pizza, it was very dry- not over baked, but didn’t have enough sauce. As a rule the pizza here is good but inconsistent.9/28/24 we tried pizza again. I must say it was absolutely horrible. It was so rubbery you literally couldn’t eat it. I’m not sure if it was the dough or it just wasn’t baked enough. In either case it was like cheese and sauce on top of rubber. We called back to inform them of this and were told all they could do was to remake the pie, that no credit could be given without the manager. It’s a 40 minute drive round trip and didn’t want to do that. They could have just given us a “rain check “ for another time. Once again it was Michelle who was quick to say she’s been there for 20 years, but still doesn’t know how to treat customers. Extra credit- when we called to tell them about the pizza Michelle put us on hold and never came back to the phone. We had to call again to get her back on the phone. We’re now done with Guidos. A once great place has really...
