Do not believe the reviews of this place that are above 2 stars. They are absolutely doctored up to make it sound like this is somewhere you want to eat!
We ordered mango tree wings as an appetizer, which were actually pretty tasty. However, they were barely room temperature.
That was the best part of the meal...
We also ordered jerk chicken , the house burger, and the house chicken sandwich.
Let's start with the jerk chicken, which is my go-to meal, and how I judge a carribean/Jamaican restaurant. It reminded me of the old Wendy's commercial, "Where's the beef?" It only had ONE chicken thigh worth of meat on the plate, a fair portion of rice and peas and came with a jerk sauce on the side. At the price of almost $16, I expected more chicken than that. And oh yes, it was also room temperature! The only thing hot was the side of sauce, which still wasn't hot but warmer than room temperature.
Same story with the house burger and house chicken sandwich.
The burger was actually cold in the middle. The chicken sandwich was room temperature.
To add insult to injury, we had to wait about 40 mins for all three meals. What in the world were they doing in the kitchen to serve all three meals at room temperature?!! Also, the house burger was almost $20, and the chicken sandwich was almost as pricey.
An added odd thing regarding the menu is that almost half the menu is "Market Price."
We were going to order Pepper steak-Market price... The waiter had to punch it in to find out the price...$26.50!
Anyway, the waiter was very nice and the decor was pretty nice as well. Lots of art on the walls.
Bottom line. Go next door to the Mexican Cantina restaurant. Don't eat at Jamaican House Grill! NOT WORTH THE...

Read moreWe had good service when we arrived and were seated. The server introduced herself and seated our party of 6. We ordered drinks and they arrived promptly. The restaurant was decorated nicely and we were 1 of 3 parties in the restaurant at that time. We ordered our food, we all ordered something different. The food arrived separately and some of our party had finished their meal by the time the last meal arrived. The server did keep us updated but it was still disappointing. One member of my party felt that his portion of oxtail was too small but my fried snapper was more than enough for me. The food was delicious. I am Jamaican so recognise authentic cuisine, I just wished there would have been more attention to detail. It would have been nice to receive bread before our meals arrived, especially as we had to wait a while for the food. The server also did not return to take a second order of drinks which we were hoping she would. Overall I was pleased to find that an upscale Jamaican restaurant in Wellington and the food was delicious but finishing touches would have made the experience memorable. I hope to return soon and my party said the same so overall, a nice time...
