Katies Cafe — Restaurant in Florida

I'm extremely disappointed with my 2 visits to this establishment. The 1st time the food took almost 45 minutes. We had simple orders nothing complicated but we chose to keep our mouth shut and chalked it up to being busy. The server on the 1st occasion was very polite and the fact that the kitchen could not keep up did not reflect on her tip. Today was my 2nd visit to the restaurant. We had only myself and a friend at the table not a large seating. We ordered basic breakfast items nothing over the top. The restaurant cleared out tables opened up and more people started to come in. The server we had seemed emotionless and had 0 bedside manner. She did a really good job of keeping up with the tables and keeping it in high gear and I never mind giving credit where credit is due. After watching 4 tables that came in after us get served their food before us we started to get frustrated. I spoke to the owner and said "Hey what's going on where's our food?" The owner's bedside manner was = that of his server. Never once from the server or the owner did we hear the words we're sorry let alone how can we make it better. I'm never going to take a free meal but a apology goes a long way. We finally received our meal and proceeded to tell the waitress that we were bothered. She chose to talk down to us again with 0 remorse. I told the server I would like a box because I had completely lost my appetite. My friend was starving and began to eat and it was at that point the owner decided to come out and try to have a conversation with him while hes finally eating. Again the owner had 0 remorse and a lot of excuses. Before we could even eat our meal we were so upset that we decided to get up and leave our food sitting there because there was no way to enjoy our meal at that point These are suggestions of restaurants that I have for you if you are planning a breakfast in Manatee or Sarasota County The broken egg Station 400 Boca Fionas Sage biscuit Robins Kiki's First watch That's just a few that I've had pleasant experiences at several times.If I didn't have the shakes from being hungry I could name a lot more. At the end of the day I will not be going back to Katie's. The food is nothing special and the kitchen doesn't know it's head from a hole in the ground. How have we never seen this place? It's right around the corner and such an awesome diner. First off, it was packed most of our visit. Despite it being busy, the staff was welcoming and super friendly! All the staff had smiles on their faces, and even the owner went table to table and was engaging and personable. To me, customer service is just as important as the food and this staff excels.

The food was enjoyable, and I highly recommend the cheesy delight breakfast hash. OMG, yummy. Prices are super reasonable.

Mainly indoor seating but few tables outside.

This is a cash or check ONLY business. They do have an ATM inside and charge $1 to use. We will definitely be back.

9/24/21 grabbed a quick bite before my afternoon shift. They closed at 2 pm, so it wasn't so busy. I had breakfast and my husband, the Cuban. I didn't disappoint. The staff were just as pleasant and friendly as last time.

1/30/22 Katie's kitchen scramble delicious. Had the grilled cheese potatoes....becuase you just have to....with raisin toast. Hubby ordered the breakfast burrito.....it was average. He will order something different next time.....he's enjoyed other items more as always the owner interacts with all the customers and welcoming....our waitress wasn't in the mood to work today....nursing a hang over we overheard her say 😀

2/6/22, the stuffed French toast with blueberries...

While the service that much desire. I have to say they have good food even though the owner did not pass by in acknowledg that we were there a large party of about 8 people he said Hi to every single person in his establishment except us he went ahead and asked how everything was except for us I can't help but to think that it was because maybe I am of hispanic origin but this was not a good experience for me I have been there in the past and loved the food and loved my waitress but my waitress this time seem like she had lots of issues going on. The owner simply walked by looked at us walk by again I still left my waitress a 25% tip because I was once to a waitress this does not compensate for the fact that we had lousy service. The fruit took over 45 minutes mind you we only had eggs bacon and sausage mostly and the waitress completely forgot my daughter's chocolate milk until I told her I was thirsty and asked where my daughter's milk was at. Their motto is where nice matters honestly I cannot take that to heart because they were not nice to us never again unfortunately even though they have the best broccoli soup I've ever had I will not be returning ever again...
