I met my girlfriend here for dinner after she suggested i would enjoy their New York style pizza. New York style pizza grew out of the Neapolitan style pizza that Italian immigrants brought with them when they came to New York. New York pizza is characterized by large slices with a thin crispy crust that is foldable. The dough is topped with tomato sauce and mozzarella cheese along with any added toppings. I grew up in New Jersey and pretty much love any kind of pizza but if you want authentic New York pizza endorsed by a discriminating New Yorker, this is your place.
Manhattan Joe's is a small chain, there are two other locations in Boca Raton. This location opened in the very nice Polo Club shopping center. The shopping center recently got a makeover and it looks great. The restaurant is no frills, cozy. There are a few tables inside and tables on their patio.
My friend ordered our pizza before I arrived and I gave her cart blanche to pick whatever toppings she wanted. She ordered us a chicken and pineapple pizza and even had my favorite Dr. Brown's cream soda waiting. It is nice when someone knows everything you like.
The pizza was covered in a generous amount of toppings and had the excellent crispy crust she raved about. A small pizza was more than enough for two people. The people working there are extremely nice too, finding the perfect container for my leftover slices and directing us to our next destination. This isn't the kind of place you come for the ambiance, although the outside looks great especially on a cool night. You come here for the food and no matter how you slice it, they make...
Read moreManhattan Joeâs in Boca Raton. Coming home from an event and my kids are hungry so we decide to get pizza, closest thing to us is Manhattan Joeâs in Polo Shoppes. Itâs expensive to start, but that was neither here nor there when youâre out of options. The part that killed me was the man putting the lip of the boxes on the floor before folding them with multiples sliding inside down onto the floor fully and being picked up and assembled as if that wasnât an issue or hazard or just plain nasty. I overhear them joking about going through so many boxes and offering a discount if they bring the box back, so being me I ask if I can get a discount for the box having been on the ground first, Iâm met with a âreally?â Look and comment is âwell the pizza is 500 degrees so itâll kill any germs.â I explain that the oven is 500 degrees and the pizza is probably between 135-160 and common sense should tell you that placing the boxes on the floor is gross. His attitude was far more gross than the floor box. Definitely wonât get a second chance and will follow up with management about making sure their employees are ServeSafe Certified since common sense does not...
Read moreThis is the first and only time I've been to this pizza place. While the place is tiny with only a few tables, that didn't prevent the place from being the busiest pizza parlor I've ever seen.
I got a large pizza plain. It had a thin crust and he'd just he right amount of cheese and sauce. The sauce was very good and had a unique flavor to it. Depending on how long I stay in Florida I will definitely go back.
Oh, and I want to make mention of the three guys I saw behind the counter. I don't know any of their names, but they are all good at their jobs. The gentleman at the register took care of taking orders and payments. Periodically when he had time, he would go look at each customer in turn and recite to himself what they had. He was never wrong and had an amazing memory. He was also very funny and very kind. The second guy was like a machine of pizza making. One after another he kept putting together pie after pie and never missing a beat. The third guy was in control of pulling the pies etc. out of the oven and making sure the order we're right. I never saw a mistake. They all did an...
