A friend recommended this restaurant, and I immediately checked out the reviews. Based on the reviews, I felt skeptical that this was going to be a good Dominican Republic restaurant. As always, though, I need to try it for myself before making a sound decision. I'm so glad I did.
We went during lunch and it wasn't too busy, this place is pretty new. I had been to this place when it was another restaurant, and I will say they did a great job at redoing the inside. Lots of seating, a nice bar area, and an outdoor patio with plenty of seating as well with nice decor (I'd definitely do a small birthday party or event there). The restaurant also has lighting and speakers throughout, so you know that at a certain part of the day, my Dominicans throw it down party style.
Let's talk about food.... started off with some beef empanadas, and they were good. Not greasy, crunchy outside, and flavorful filling. They were brought out with some pique, and it was fire , oh so good. I could eat that with everything! The 4 golpes con mamgu was delicious. The mangu was suavecito. The chefs did not cheap out on the pickled red onions.â The pernil with habichuelas rojas (red beans) and rice took me back home good. Arroz con gandules with pollo a la plancha (which was a huge chicken breast) did not disappoint. Oh, and how could not mention the Morir Soñando which is like an orange Creamsicle in a glass, delicious. Ended the meal with a little cafecito.
Our server was awesome, very attentive. She was such a pleasure to speak with. Very knowledgeable about the menu and gave great recommendations The experience was great, and i will definitely be returning. Hopefully, it will be later in the evening so I can get dancing bachata with all the...
Read moreI recently visited Mar Dâ Plata and had a mixed experience. The ambiance of the restaurant is quite nice, with a clean and appealing decor, but unfortunately, the atmosphere fell flat due to outdated music that felt a bit boring for the setting.
Our meal started with appetizers: the clams Posillipo and montaditos, both of which were delicious and well-prepared. However, the complimentary bread was served only after the appetizers, which was a bit inconvenient.
For my main course, I ordered the octopus salad with pork loin and white beans. While the octopus salad was enjoyable, the pork loin was overpoweringly flavored with rosemary, making it nearly inedible. When I mentioned this to our waiter, she was pleasant and attentive, promptly offering to replace it with chicken Marsala, which was a nice touch.
I also appreciated that the beers were served ice-cold, but the overall service was slow. I found myself waiting too long to request another drink, which detracted from the experience.
While the staff was friendly, I expected more guidance on favorite dishes, especially as it was my first visit. Unfortunately, I left feeling disappointed, particularly since I had taken a friend who was eager to experience authentic Dominican cuisine, which was not represented in our meal.
Overall, while Mar Dâ Plata has potential, the disorganization in service and lack of authentic food options have led me to decide that I probably...
Read moreI work in the same plaza, so I order breakfast before work from this place occasionally. When I picked up my order, the fried cheese I paid extra for was missing. I went back in and explained, and a waitress took it back to the kitchen. A managerial-type gentleman brought It back out a few minutes later and said they added the cheese, but then he proceeded to treat me like I did something wrong for adding an extra side and tried to argue that I didn't actually pay extra for the side of cheese. I showed him my receipt, and he still argued that I was wrong and didn't pay for the cheese. I had to explain the pricing breakdown for him (how does someone working in a restaurant not know their own prices?) that the dish I ordered was 8.99, and the extra side of cheese increased it by 2.99 to about $12. He offered no apology and gave some lame excuses that Doordash doesn't work with their menu (then why is this restaurant on Doordash???). When I finally sat down to enjoy my food, they had rewarmed the sausages to the point that they were crunchy and hard. I am so thoroughly disappointed. I work in this plaza, and my coworkers and I all order from this place multiple times a week. We may not...
