I could not wait to come here! I read all the negative reviews FIRST! I NOTICED that every review had feedback from someone at this restaurant! (This is important! It means management CARES about reputation!)
Second, I had seen the crowds that were formed here On the weekends and this includes FHP! So, IT'S GOT TO BE GOOD!
Lastly, I knew one person who spoke about Martha's to me and she said "it's a nice place, good portion for the price".
I have to say, the worst part was parking and even that was manageable! So if you come here, carpool is my suggestion! The service was fantastic! We were greeted as we walked in the door! It's self seating, the restaurant was clean! I honestly did not know what to expect! Literally not 2 minutes after we sat down we had a server at the table (mind you it was 9am on a Saturday). The service was amazing! We were asked every few minutes if we were ready! We ordered! The portions were great! The coffee mug was huge! My friend ordered a breakfast sandwich (he usually goes to West Tampa Sandwich Shop and he said he would actually come here instead because the sandwich was amazing!), Husband ordered an egg, sausage, bacon, hash browns sampler dish and that was A LOT of food! And he can eat! I ordered a spinach omelette with feta, hash browns and biscuit with a side of gravy. I like trying everyone's biscuits and gravy, this didn't blow me away, BUT it's ok, I like a certain style of gravy! Point is! The food was great, the flavor was good! The service was (in my personal opinion) OPTIMAL, I felt no pressure to leave, ambiance was great! After reading the reviews, I feel that the managers or whoever, takes the suggestions from the reviews and applies it to make the customer experience better! So for this I say, THANK YOU! My husband said that since breakfast was a hit, we are trying Martha's for lunch now! CHALLENGE ACCEPTED! We...
Read moreThis place was great. It was my last day in the area and my mom had found this place within the last couple of months and she wanted to share it with me before I left town.
And it was good. But, before I get into all of that, let me start at the beginning:
The parking lot is small.
Oh, that was easy. Let me fill that out a bit: yes, the parking lot was small, but then again so is the restaurant. No need for a giant lot when there are less than 20 tables in the place.
When you finally do make it into the restaurant you are greeted with bright orange tables. I'd thought for a second I was in a (Denver) Broncos themed joint but quickly realized the restaurant is just full of bright orange tables.
Seat yourself tables, I might add.
Once we were seated the service was quick. Drinks and food were ordered and then we waited.
While waiting I took a gander at the decor which tried for nostalgic-on-a-budget. Which was fine, it just missed the mark, in my opinion.
When the food came, it was good. And the portions were huge. In fact, at the size of the meals, I fully expected the them to cost more than they did. My only gripe was the size of the food cuts. They were large, which may be fine for a lot of people, but I prefer my food cut smaller.
Why? Well, for example, I had the Hillbilly Skillet where the potatoes and the sausages were cut an inch or more thick. Great for eating the meal morsel by morsel, not so great for wanting to combine flavors by having a potato, sausage and egg on the same fork full.
My only other complaint was the butter, or lack thereof. My skillet came with pancakes and my pancakes came with margarine. Ugh.
Otherwise, everything was good. The sweet tea was not too sweet and the meals themselves were delicious.
I can't wait for my next visit to try out their lunch or dinner.
Sadly, I'd forgotten my phone and couldn't...
Read moreThe Uninvited Guest: It was early Sunday morning, and I was returning home from dropping an employee off to clean a home. As I drove past the restaurant, I couldn't help but notice the full parking lot. As I scanned the area as I pasted, I saw the sign. Martha's home cookin. Yes, no "G." So I went home and grabbed the misses, and returned to the restaurant. After realizing it closed at 3pm. and I still had grocery shopping to do. We entered and were told to sit where we like and sat at the far booth on the left. Just left of the Martha sign on the back wall as you are facing it. Shortly, a waitress appeared, full of smiles and kind on the eyes. She welcomed us and told our drink order. By the looks of it, she had 3 other tables to attend, and she touched them all with a smile. She then returned and took our order. Two breakfast specials, I had the country fried steak with mine, and the little lady had ham. We sat patiently and made small talk as I looked around and more people were coming in. Finally the food arrived. All but the pancakes and the grits that were ordered and not the hashbrowns. The order returned correctly, and we were beginning to eat. I must say the food was excellent and the pancakes especially were on point as well as my steak. But sadly to say, I couldn't enjoy all my food and had to ask for a box. Why, you ask. The Uninvited Guest. There was a fly that showed up to the table, and he or she wouldn't leave. You can only swat, but so much before your food turns totally cold as you try to prevent it from being landed on. Can't say that much for the syrup bottle. Yes, the fly put his foot in the spout. Will I return you ask. To be honest, yes, I will. The bill was $27.40 and I gave the smiling waitress $40. And said goodbye The food was still good...
