The Saga at Bob Evans We walked in and stood there for about 45 seconds without being greeted. There were two employees over at the register/to-go section just chatting away. I quickly noticed it wasn’t crowded for it to be 10:40 on a Sunday morning. That should have been a warning. Another waitress came over to the hostess stand and asked one of the chit chatters, “Are you on break?” It was only at that point that she came over to the hostess stand. This employee looked at the laminated seating chart and was looking around, so I spoke up and said, “Hello! Good morning!” To which she replied with a flat “Good morning.” She took us to a section away from all other guests and seated us next to a table for four that hadn’t been cleared of the previous diners’ dirty plates. (FYI - The table was still like that when we left 30 minutes later.) Our waitress came to our table in a reasonable amount of time to take our drink order. My husband called her by the name on her name tag and asked how her day was going. She said, “It’s going good.” I ordered coffee and my husband ordered water with no ice. Our waitress comes back timely with my coffee and a glass of ice water. I add my cream and sugar. The coffee is old and bitter; it had clearly been sitting. We sat there for a while as our waitress took other orders. My husband called her over as she was walking by and said cheerfully, “May I have water with no ice please?” “Oh sure. No ice.” She comes back with the water with no ice and asks if we’re ready to order. I asked her what her favorite dinner meal is and shared, “Steak tips.” “And what about breakfast? What’s your favorite breakfast meal?” I added. Surprisingly, she also said “steak tips”! We place our orders and off she goes. My husband and I sit there doing a bit of chit-chatting ourselves when he notices that the guests who arrived after us were brought their food. Huh? We are looking around now trying to understand what is occurring at this Bob Evans! That’s when Sally comes into the picture. Sally, a waitress, sees us and just comes and starts talking. She explained her name isn’t really Sally, she only put that on her name tag because she was wearing the bandanna that Sally in “The Nightmare Before Christmas” wore. That was cute. Sally asks me if I want more coffee. I finish the bitter old coffee in the hopes that a fresh pot was made. Sally was very attentive and seemed interested in providing service. We ended up waiting some more. Sally comes back and says, “She’ll be right out with your coffee. They’re making a fresh pot.” “Okay” The original waitress comes back with the coffee and fills it so high there’s no room to pour cream. My husband asks, “Excuse me. They came in after us and they already have their food. Where’s our food?” Her reply was, “Oh! There are two different sides in the kitchen and the cook is training a new cook. But your food is ready.” She leaves to go get it. I pick up the mug of “freshly” made coffee and it’s warm to the touch - not hot. This was not just made. It was also old and bitter.l just like the first cup. The food was ok but not hot. Sally came back over and struck up a conversation about Comicon. Sally with the headband was about the only thing good about breakfast at Bob Evans today....
Read moreWell where to start? We usually dine here at least once a week. I would not go back! The server Tina is usually our server. She is attentive and doesn't bring second rate food to our table. Tonight we had a young blonde server. I wish I saw her name. She sat us . the host was nowhere to be seen. He is a little boy that walked by our table 4 times after we finnished our poor quality meals. And didn't even stop to see if everything was ok or clear our dishes. He never does anything anyway. Why should tonight be different. I had ordered the pot roast. I often do. This time it was a mess on the plate. The mashed potatoes were cold, the meat was mushy and there was almost no gravy. My husband likes the steak. This time he tried the new peppercorn steak medium. The steak was very rare and the sauce was thick and nasty. So when we finnished our food we waited 15 minutes for our server to clear our plates. When she arrived we were told she was fixing a picture frame??? She took some plates and left. 10 minutes later we left our table to pay for a bad dinner and bad service. At the register she came out with my husband's pumpkin pie in hand. Said she had to make the pie??? This all happened in front of the host. He did and said nothing. No credit for the pie, no apology ,nothing. How can we go back?? We work hard and when we dine out we expect good food and good service. We expect to be served by a server not the maintenance personnel. We do not recommend the new peppercorn steak. The management needs to be on site and educate the staff of the proper way to to...
Read moreTo summarize the chain in general, they are very consistent in their excellent service, really good food and fair prices. And you will NEVER leave hungry! I have eaten multiple times at the Bob Evans in Brandon and Temple Terrace. It is a little longer drive for me to the Seffner location, but if I am home making a plan to eat at Bob Evans, I always choose the Seffner location because of the ambiance.
The Seffner location was closed for a few years. It was rebuilt with a particularly "nicer" in ambiance than most of the others. There is a vaulted, post and beam exposed ceiling which really adds to the atmosphere.
This is typically a breakfast restaurant for me. My "go to" is the Eggs Benedict - delicious. My wife really likes the omlets. All of their meets breakfast meets (bacon, sauges) ar of course delicious. If I don't go with my "go to" I get one of the multiple meat combos with eggs (always cooked perfectly over easy), bisquits, and some of the meets. The sausage gravy and bisquets are delicious. Hash Brown are delicious.
They have breakfast available whenever they are open.
They did have delicious crepes. I don't see them on the menu anymore.
For my taste, the specialty pancakes are too sweet. The standard hotcakes (pancakes are better than average - not as good as Perkins - but the closest Perkins I know of is in Orlando).
I haven't eaten many of there non breakfast offerings. But the country fried steak...
