This is the kind of review I hate writing. It's like when you watch Kitchen Nightmares and think there is no way these people can survive running a restaurant like this. I am a big supporter and fan of local restaurants and am saddened to have write a review like this.
My experience at Mi Jalisco was not good. We got seated pretty promptly on a busy Saturday Night. The disappointment started at the arrival of the Drinks. My Wife's Skinny Margarita as well as two other Margaritas for the other couple dining with us. The Skinny Margarita was watery and tasted of carbonation. There was no lime flavor or tequila which is a Margarita. We told the waitress and she took the drink. The same drink was returned to us with most of the salt missing and the same straw. The fix was to add a lot of tequila to the drink, which didn't help. The Texas Margarita also ordered and was of similar quality. We frequently dine at Mexican restaurants and these were the worst margaritas we ever had. Also, the drink menu had no prices so we had to inquire and found out that the bad drinks were going to cost $13 and $15. For $15 I can get a tip top margarita at Masa or The Oleander Club. A slushy machine Margarita would have been better than these.
We had noted there were communication issues with our waitress. She was confused when we complained about the Margarita the first time. Now we were telling her that we didn't want the drinks. She stated repeatedly that she already fixed the drink and the bar tender was right over there. We reiterated we didn't want the drinks. She walked away and never mentioned it again. She brought our food (which I will talk about later) and never said anything about the drinks. She failed to make eye contact the rest of the night - awkward. When the split bill came for the two parties, she handed us both copies of the same bill instead of the two seperate bills. When she returned with our correct bills we noted that the returned drinks (which were still awkwardly sitting on our table) were still on the bill. She quickly ran away and I had to find the manager. When we explained that we weren't happy with cocktails and wanted them removed from the bill, his demeanor turned angry and he said that we don't comp drinks, we will only let you swap them out for another. We had to explain that the waitress didn't make us aware of this - in fact we explained she downright ignored us. We offered for him to try them but he refused and said that he knows how the margaritas are made and that they were good. He said he would reluctantly comp them this time, but never again. No apology for our issues, no promise to correct the issue with the waitress. Just the arrogant assumption of perfection. They should put that on the menu - All Drinks are Non-Refundable... but this won't be a problem because the are all perfect. And this is why we will never return.
Otherwise, there is a very large selection of Mexican and semi-mexican dishes with no explanation of the sauces. We had to look at the pictures to get the full idea of a dish and the waitress was no help with explaining the sauces. They clearly don't like to do substitutions because the phrase "No Substitutions" appears at least twenty times in the menu.
My Wife got the Enchilados Poblanos which came with a Mole Poblano sauce. It was the sweetest mole we ever had and although it wasn't too sweet, it still was very distracting from the subtle flavors we usually find in a good Mole. I got the Carnitas en Salsa Verde which showed up as Enchilada Verde. Needless to say our party was not able to enjoy our meal together as the dishes arrived at various times and it took a little extra for them to get my order right. When my Carnitas arrived, instead of the chunks of tender pork, I got a pile of shredded meat stewing a green sauce. It was ok but when I order Carnitas, I expect there to be a crisp roasted element to the meet. The rice and beans accompanying it were unremarkable. Will not...
Read moreMy wife and I have been looking for a new Mexican place to try. A friend suggest we try this place, so we gave it a shot for lunch.
We were there at about noon on a Friday. Place was pretty empty. I had to wash my hands so I hit the washroom while my wife waited to be seated. She got sat immediately and the waitress asked what we wanted to drink. We got 2 club sodas.
We got a basket of chips and salsa immediately. Drinks took a bit of time to get to us. Maybe 5 mins. Salsa was good, chips were mostly broken and crumbs.
Once we ordered, food took literally 2 mins to get to us. Wife and I both ordered the same thing. Lunch special #7. Burrito, taco, enchilada. Made with ground beef.
Plates were big, food was arranged nicely. Food was not as hot, temperature wise, as I'd like. Burrito was lukewarm in the middle but not inedible. Meat was seasoned well. My biggest takeaway was the red sauce that was on the burrito and taco. It was very heavy in tomato flavor. Almost like a ketchup base. It was not seasoned well. It lacked the spices I'm accustomed to in an enchilada sauce. Taco was nice but all the lettuce was on the plate, not in the taco. I guess that was by design as it was on both plates like that.
More than enough food for the price. Service was mediocre. Waitress never returned to see how our food was until we were done and needed the check. Never refilled our drinks.
For the price, we were happy. If we had just gotten flat water we would have gotten out for about $17. Not a bad deal. Only major complaint was the server not being as cordial as attentive as we'd have liked. We will probably give it another shot and see if we can get the review...
Read morePretty disappointed in the experience, should have listened to the bad reviews but wanted to try something new. Normally i do not leave reviews either unless extremely good or extremely bad!
First off $4 for a side of rice and $4 for a side of beans is literally absurb! $8 dollars for a SIDE of rice and beans!!! Also to talk about the food…it was mediocre. I got the barria tacos because I know they are hit really anywhere nowadays, but there was more cheese than meat and it was just overpowering. To the point where i took the meat off the taco and mixed it with my rice and beans for a meal later. Just a very subpar experience with so so food quality
Secondly we were treated different from the get go, customer service was not great or good really. A couple walked in behind us (granted they were aiming to sit at the bar, the entire restaurant was completely empty aside from maybe 1 or 2 tables with people seated), and was greeted and seated before we were. Multiple waiters/waitresses walked past us without any type of hello or welcome in. We only received slight hospitality from the 10 year old working as a hostess when on a Saturday he should be playing with his friends. Trust me I’m all for a great work ethic and teaching kids the right moral values at a young age but the kid looked miserable and I just felt so bad. He was up and actively doing things the entire time we were at the restaurant. Eh, it was eh, more than likely will not go back!
BIG BIG SHOUTOUT to the young gentleman (kid) that was working though. He...
