Looking for a bite on my way home I found myself at Michael's. It's likely been 10 to 15 years since my last visit. In the plaza on N. Dale Mabry next to Black Rock, Michael's is a neighborhood favorite with good food, quick service, a pleasant and couteous staff and plenty of free parking. Obviously, convenience like that is an asset to any business. They have since added on another dining room and still boast a great outdoor covered dining area. The Bisque was off point today, lukewarm and with a lumpy spot of flour, just careless. The taste was good. I tried the Zuchini Sticks and they disappointed, again I think just careless or in a hurry. The potential was there but they were obviously stuck together in the fryer and pried loose and slightly over cooked. The Tower Roast Beef Sandwich was delightful. Everything about it was spot on. Pefect bread, warm, a bit crunchy but pliable, perfectly seasoned and cooked roast beef. The exact amount of Jus needed. Filled me up nicely. Today's mis-haps felt unusual, in the past I remember flawless performances so I do not know how frequent that is now. Memories I have include awesome sandwiches, great pasta, excellent seafood and a mouth-watering mushroom risotto. My visits stopped when the Wine shop I frequented next door changed a long time ago. There are new owners, they are always closed when I come by and I do not know if they still have an arrangement with Michael's. I used to buy a bottle at the shop and drink it with my meal. The food here is good and definitely worth a try. Come get ya some.

I'm giving it 3 stars because admittedly the atmosphere is pleasant however it's a poorly managed restaurant. We went for dinner and asked for a table. The host turned away and looked at her coworker and visibly rolled her eyes and said NO we can't sit 4 people right now. It was really awkward to experience as a patron and made us feel unwelcomed. They sat us anyway and the service was decent but once it got busier, our waiter was MIA. The presentation of the food was odd to say the least. I believe the meat dishes were good but the appetizers and sides were not good. The potatoes were dry and seemed like they had been sitting out. I was particularly puzzled by the fried brie appetizers in which they brought out a whole wheel of brie cut into huge chunks with a very light drizzle of some kind of berry sauce. The bathroom was out of toilet paper and one of the stalls had an unfortunate appearance as someone had an accident near the toilet and it wasn't cleaned up. Pretty gross and odd that it was ignored for a busy Friday night. I think this place has a lot of potential and I look forward to that but for now, I didn't have a pleasant experience with the food or staff.

OpenTable presented me this restaurant as a local gem. It's a really lovely restaurant, and I love the fact that the chef and his wife go around to pretty much everybody in the restaurant and chat with them. The food was pretty good. Definitely all homemade and from scratch. They take real pride in what they present to people. They frequently rotate items on and off the menu, which is always nice. I tried that she crab bisque, the flavor was pretty good but it was overly thick and maybe a little too sweet. The best she crab bisque on the planet is it Collington Cafe on the outer Banks of North carolina. I also had the pork Diane, it was good, I enjoyed the sauce, but it didn't make me jump up and down. The focaccia and garlic butter they bring out before the meal was really excellent, very light crisp on the outside really excellent. I have to agree with open table, this is a neighborhood gem, I'm really tired of corporate chain restaurants. They have no heart. I'm sure we will be back to try other items soon.

Outstanding Dining Experience at Michael’s Grill

Last night, my date and I had the pleasure of dining at Michael’s Grill in Tampa, and it was nothing short of exceptional. From start to finish, the entire experience was outstanding.

We began with the Louisiana shrimp in barbecue sauce as an appetizer, and it set the tone for the evening—flavorful, perfectly prepared, and absolutely delicious. Our drinks were expertly crafted, adding a nice touch of sophistication to the meal.

The service was truly top-notch. Our server, Mallory was attentive, professional and friendly, and the general manager personally came over to ensure we were enjoying our meal. This level of care and attention to detail made us feel incredibly welcome and valued. The staff even went above and beyond to help us find a table that suited our preferences—a small gesture that made a big impact.

For our main course, we both savored Chef Michael's Filet Mignon ... 6 oz tender Filet grilled medium rare topped with a robust Gorgonzola cheese and finished with a Jack Daniels Whiskey sauce, mashed potatoes and vegetable medley, all of which were cooked to perfection. Each bite was a testament to the quality and expertise Michael’s Grill consistently delivers.

To top off the evening, we indulged in the bread pudding with ice cream and caramel-toffee for dessert. Outstanding! It was the perfect ending to an unforgettable meal—warm, rich, and utterly satisfying.

Michael’s Grill is a gem in Tampa, and I can’t recommend it highly enough. Exceptional food, impeccable service, and an inviting atmosphere make it a dining experience you won’t...

I truly wanted to give 4 or 5 stars. It's not that the food was bad... It was not as flavourful as expected. Garlic mash potatoes were not garlicky. It was just mash. Steak Au Poivre - I LOVE PEPPER!! However, it was pepper overload!! Due to the fact they put the filet on top of the mash, it's pepper mash! Non garlic pepper mash. Let's talk about the non zesty French creme sauce. Tasteless and just more pepper. The absolute biggest disappointment of the evening was the chocolate crème brûlée. One of life's greatest pleasures is hearing and feeling the "tap.....tap.....tap" of the caramelized, torched sugary top with your spoon. Almost as if knocking to ask permission to enter. Then that final "tap" with just minuscule effort to reveal the ultimate prize! That beautiful, soft, melt in your mouth custard. NOPE!! The first tiny tap was a smush. I've experienced some of the most amazing chocolate crème brûlée's around the world. This was more of a Fudge Brulee. The consistency was denser than cheesecake and the spoon stood straight up at attention! It was good. Very rich. But don't be fooled! This is NOT crème brûlée. If this is the chefs interpretation, I think he may need another...
