Friday we went to Nan's Thai Noodle at 1900 Tamiami Trl #112, Port Charlotte located in the Murdock Carrousel Shopping Center. It was not crowded when we went. Looking around we saw that the space was clean and bright. We were greeted as we came in and led to a table by our server. She left the menus for us to look at while she went for the sodas we also wanted. My wife ordered the Chicken with Cashew Nut, which she had before. I decided to have something I had not tried before, the Mixed Vegetables with Chicken. While we waited for the food we had a chance to look around at the décor. It is tastefully decorated in an Asian style. It felt appropriate and was not over done at all. Our food arrived in about 15 minutes and it was delicious! Not only was it fresh and hot, but the heat was exactly what I expected and well done. There was more than enough food. I should have probably brought some home, but it was so good, both my wife and I finished our plates. All in all it was a GREAT experience again. We certainly will be back as Nan's Thai Noodle remains one of our favorite places to dine. If you have not gone there, please do. You will not be disappointed. Another Update: Went to Nan's Thai Noodle at 1900 Tamiami Trl #112, Port Charlotte, again on 12/13/2024 to try some new dishes. We were promptly greeted and seated. We ordered hot tea to start us off. My wife ordered the cashew chicken, no spice. I ordered the Tom Yum with shrimp and the Papaya Salad. I ordered both "Thai Hot". While we waited, I looked around and admired the décor. The place was bright and clean and certainly reminded everyone that this place was Thai. We did not have to wait long for our food as it came in a few minutes. My wife really enjoyed her Cashew Chicken with no spice. She said that she feels comfortable enough next time to start ordering other things on the menu. She trusts when she says no spice, that the chef will indeed not add any spice. Both my Tom Yum with shrimp and my Papaya Salad were delicious! The wait person certainly did not disappoint because when I said "Thai Hot" that is what it was! Made me sweat, but I was so appreciative that it did. So many other places when you order it HOT, they are NOT. I really like it when I order it HOT that it comes HOT! Both my wife and I give Nan's Thai Noodle two thumbs up! If you want good Thai Food, please consider this place. It is absolutely AWESOME and will not disappoint you!

The menu is beautiful to read, and it begins with the true story of how this Thai based restaurant came to Port Charlotte. The interior has a beautiful feel, somewhat like eating in your family’s kitchen. The restaurant is tucked away quietly behind major restaurants on 41. The humility of the staff and the taste of the food will have you going back for more. I had their beef pho. It was a rainy, cold afternoon and I wanted soup. My broth was amazing. I added slices of lime, jalapeño, bean sprouts, hoisin sauce, fish sauce and chili to jazz it up. But I have to return for their other offerings which look delectable and interesting. Believe the hype, they have a major following. There is a lot of parking and located in the heart of Port Charlotte. Btw, their prices are amazing. My big bowl of soup was $13.19 tax inclusive.

What a great jem of amazing foods. They will let you choose a heat of 1-5 for intensity. My wife is a number 2 and I'm a solid as I Love chillies We had sushi as an appetizer which was nice. I Really enjoyed the red duck curry. The duck was fried by itself on a plate. There was also a bowl of the red curry with mixed veggies and fresh herbs. I got a side of sticky rice that I also put inside the red curry. So so good! My wife also got the Tom Ka soup which was a nice sweet and tangy mix. I chose the Thai bubble tea which was awesome. Nice sweetness with the slightly bitter tea. This tasted just like the ones we had in Thailand. We will for sure be back again! #RockFromRI

Okay, there has to be some background to explain my rating. First of all I am the type of person factors service into rating restaurants and its food. I admit that average food at a particular restaurant is a bit sweeter when the service is A+. So a C+ would rate a B-. I do not eat fast food, except stake n' shake's frisco melt w/ lettuce and tomato. Now to the rating. I have gone to this place for over a year now. I have been there approximately 12 times. The first time I went there I got the feeling that they would rather not have me there, it took 13 minutes (i timed it) after being seated before I was asked if I wanted something to drink. There were a few tables open so it was not full (its not that big of a place). Despite the service I tipped 20%. Rinse and repeat. This happened pretty much the next 7 times I went, and I still tipped 20%. For those who don't know its pretty much 2 or 3 waiters and about 15 tables., variations of 2 seaters and 4 seaters.

So you probably wondering why I tipped 20%. Let's just say to eliminate stereotypes associated with racial makeups. I am a minority and know some ppl think (not all) that certain groups of ppl don't tip. Waiters are ppl and also believe that as well and they give you bad service when you are a part of that group (although this is not a legit reason to give bad service its your job to serve, do it with dignity not expectation of reward). Nonetheless, even though I came there pretty frequently I was met with the same disdain. Both waiters aren't that way, but its one particular one, she is slender acts like she's the boss, not the other lady (she is sweet), the boss lady looks like a human yoda kinda... Only 2 times I have been there and got good service and that's because yoda was not serving me. In fact the other lady on occasion has brought me drinks and water without request because she saw myself and my wife (minority too), waiting there for quite some time. The other time we (my wife and I) had a white couple with us. Now don't get offended, this is the truth.

The last time I been there was recently, my wife and I again came by for a pickup (because we know we get bad service) and then decided heck we stay and order something quick, yoda who was happy to take the credit card and up sell, all of a sudden became mute. Although she already charged the credit card, when asked to be seated, which there were about 7 tables open, she just walked away. She even came back, purposely avoided us, to the point where a guy (who I don't see very much who is a waiter there) asked us if we been helped, we told him what happened, he apologized and offered to seat us, but we declined. The point is it seems that this place doesn't treat minorities right. The food is just above average I say about a C+ or a B-, for the area. Now if this place was in orlando it would be at a gas station, because the food doesn't compare to a Ann hongs in orlando on colonial and mills, if you ever in orlando go there and you'll agree Nan's isn't that good. But for the area since there aren't many thai places its above average. In general the restaurants in port charlotte aren't really that good, there's only a handful. I would say the Greek Grill in North Port is good, except they hassle you to buy more things, other than that I rate their food a B+.

The service here sucks, I won't spend a dime more in this place. I am not going to say the food is horrible, because it is not horrible. But I say in my experience the food isn't that great for the service to be that bad. Give it a try see if its just like...

I want to start by saying that Nan's has incredible food. We have been fans of Nan's for almost 3 years now, and have frequented the restaurant often, even taking company from out of town there to eat on many occasions, but this past weekend will be the last time we go for one very big reason. We have never been so embarrassed and insulted ever in a restaurant and I cannot believe that the staff would ever treat a customer in the way they treated us. This past Friday night, my wife and I and our three children (who have eaten in Nan's many times) took some friends visiting from out of state to Nan's for dinner. After waiting 30 minutes for a table, we were seated and given water. Shortly afterward my son, who is five, dropped his plastic cup on the ground. He had drank all of his water so all that spilled were a few ice cubes. The waitress quickly attended to it. After we had ordered and were collecting the menus, my daughter happened to knock over her glass accidentally, which did spill some water on the ground. Next thing I know, another waitress (who seemed more in charge than the others) came storming out of the back and proceeded to yell at us. She told us that we needed to watch our children and that they did not have the time to continually clean up after us. IT WAS WATER, but what she did next was worse. She demanded that we get up and move the kids so that they were in between adults and not, as she put it, "party time by themselves," and then waited until we did. By this point the entire restaurant was watching us, and we were seated in the back by the bathrooms so we were visible to the entire room. In fact, other patrons were chiming in on the conversation and visibly watching us as we stood up and moved around. I could not believe that she did this, and then later when she brought us our food had the audacity to ask, "Are the children behaving now?" They accidentally knocked over a cup of water. They were not yelling. They were not running around. They were seated and quiet and trying to help gather the menus. It was clearly an accident. As I mentioned, we love the food, and the price is reasonable, and we have always raved about the experience (the ambiance of the tiny restaurant is great, and the service has always been good), but this was such a humiliation and a truly undeserved insult. I would never take anyone else here and will not be returning. I would rather drive into Venice for my Thai food...
