I called ahead to make a reservation for 10 - 11 people, in which they had me call another number. In order to obtain a reservation, I was told I had to get a celebration package (The one for up to 10 people is $450 plus service and tax). Said package includes Balloons (6 latex & 1 mylar), cake, asst appetizers, and 2 btls of Brugal 1888 with mixers. It also includes “ A Show” which is basically some staff banging pots and pans. When asked if we could make some adjustments they said no. They did however replace the unwanted alcohol with passionfruit drink and piña colada. Our service was extremely slow. The server was either new or just simply clueless. We had to consistently ask for things Or get them ourselves. The food was cold when it got to our table. The meat had a funny smell, some of the food was sent back and still it wasn’t good. The name on the cake and signage was spelled wrong even though it was sent via text. The busser was extremely rude and even placed her dirty gloves into a glass that was still being used. She tossed a bunch of to go plasticware on the table with a bunch of saucers, (some we sent back cause they were dirty) not plates, to serve the cake with. After 3 hours I had to ask if said “show” was happening since my mother (86 y/o) couldn’t be there much longer. Sadly, we couldn’t even have conversation since the music was so loud. To add insult to injury, seven of eleven in my party got sick with nausea and diarrhea. Overall, it was an extremely awful. Not worth the almost $900 that was spent. I contacted the manager and the restaurant with a detailed explanation of my experience and nothing was done. They don’t care about customer satisfaction. The one positive thing that I can say is that it has a traditional Dominican countryside decor that was appealing, hence the 1 star rating.

My review is from an honest non-bias place in my heart. I never go to Dominican restaurants in the US as I always come out disappointed with the food as that’s my heritage and I know what the food should taste like… many restaurants claime to be authentic Dominican food and they are just a fusion of cultures and not real at all. Now here we go: Pros: I absolutely love the alegoric ways of this place. The menu is designed as the country’s passport and the plates are all things pointing yo regular everyday Dominican words, places and even popular typical artist. The restaurant is decorated as a taíno cave and ir has several decorated spaces that just makes you think of the Dominican Republic. Gorgeous!!!! I added some pics. Oh topping it they had a live band playing Dominican merengues and found out they bring different Dominican artist and comedians to perform as well. Service is a bit slow but place was packed so I do understand that, not sure if they are always busy or if it was just today. It was Sunday night. The Pro here was that Our waitress was super nice. PRO/con Food was delicious… however it was cold. tasty but cold as in room temperature… food should come out hot or at the very least Luke warm. Cons: We asked for picante and they brought us a cholula hot sauce… like really a Mexican picante. After all the work on the Dominican theme… the devil is on the details. They did not have a drink menu, so there were no drink choices. Such a bummer. Lastly only one dessert option (no menu again) and there was no coffee….really… no coffee… cmon such a Dominican staple.

It was our first time visiting and the food and atmosphere were excellent and you gotta give credit where credit is due. The reason I’m giving a 3 is because of the service experience. I’ve worked in the restaurant industry before, so I know the difference between transparency and lack thereof. As first time visitors, our server didn’t bother telling us a “20% service charge” was already included in the total cost. Now in all fairness, it was listed on the receipt, however, it’s professional courtesy to let your guests know this before they sign the receipt. Our server only explained and returned the additional tip after we caught that (that would have been a 40% tip). I gotta admit, that was pretty slick. When you’re on vacation and maybe having a drink or two to relax, pay attention to those pieces. It would also be more direct to tweak “20% service charge” to “Included 20% Tip”. I’m a good tipper for good service but it's a bit bold to make the assumption each server has earned that %. I understand large parties warrant a mandatory “Tip Included” charge of at least 15% because some people have zero manners when it comes to gratuity. If this is you, reconsider your position and put yourself in their shoes. However, for a party of 2, I don’t agree with their weekend policy (which again was only explained after we caught it). I understand management reserves the right to establish their own guidelines and they’ve earned the right to do so. Especially cause the food, atmosphere and decor were excellent. But, be transparent and straightforward when it comes to your tipping policy out of respect for your customers who choose to spend their hard earned money on your beautiful establishment....

I am deeply disappointed with our recent experience at Perico Ripiao, where we celebrated my wife’s 29th birthday. Despite informing the restaurant in advance about our large party and arriving precisely at the suggested time, we endured an unacceptable wait of over two hours before being seated, far exceeding the initially quoted 25-30 minutes. During this period, staff provided no clear updates, merely stating that seating depended on another group leaving, even though that group had already settled their bill.

Once seated, service remained subpar. It took an inordinate amount of time to take our drink and appetizer orders. Adding to the frustration, the waitress informed half of our table that the kitchen closed at 11 PM because they ordered only appetizers. However, when the other half wished to order, she admitted she hadn’t mentioned the closing time to them, assuming they would order entrées as well. After this all further requests like water and extra napkins were also met with noticeable attitude from the waitress.

When the check arrived, the entire bill was consolidated without consulting us. Upon requesting separate checks, the waitress responded with clear irritation. A mandatory 20% service fee was added, which we disputed due to the poor service. Two staff members claimed they couldn’t adjust the charge. Only after speaking with the owner did we find resolution; she was unaware of the ongoing issues, as they were being kept from her & she apologized sincerely, and waived the service fee, urging us to give the restaurant another chance. Regrettably, after this distressing experience, we cannot see...
