I was temporarily living in Houston, Texas for over a year, so I was a surprised when I moved back home to Kissimmee and drove passed a new sign stating, "South Philly Cheesesteak"! If you've ever been to Philly, you know that on your list of "must do's" is eat at both Pat's King of Steaks and Geno's Steaks (across the road from each other and a huge rivalry). My question upon entering this restaurant was, "Are they true Philly Cheesteaks? Wiz or no Wiz?" The music to my ears was, "Of course Wiz!" FINALLY! A place that knew how to make true Philly Cheesesteaks! So many places that state they are selling "Philly Cheesesteaks" only offer Provolone cheese or Mozzarella cheese on the sandwiches and then notify you that they've never even been to Philly to know what Cheese Wiz is. Pitiful!
However, this place is the way to go when you are craving that true Philly Cheesesteak! Yes, they still offer Provolone and Mozzarella, but to me... Wiz, extra Wiz for sure! An ice cold Dr Pepper, a Philly Cheesesteak with Wiz and double grilled onions, and a side of cheese fries, and I could imagine being in Philly. They pile on the perfectly seasoned steak and cheese, the Amoroso's bread so fresh. The fries are cooked to order - everything is made to order.
The owners, Ira and Cathy are so very welcoming and funny; and love to have conversations with their "guests". The restaurant, simply decorated, but functional (pictures of Philly on the walls). Sadly, with the Coronavirus going on, their startup is slow. So, if you are looking for a good, quick meal... Don't hesitate to stop and try South Philly Cheesesteak on 192, just a few miles from Walt Disney World and Old Town. If you are a local, hurry up and get here, help support your neighbor's business and eat delicious food at this same time! We need to keep this awesome "Mom & Pop" shop open for all to enjoy!
P.S. Dine In is open with social...
Read moreThird Update - Well, several attempts to give these folks a chance and I think I'm done. Consistently not open during what they claim are their operating hours. Bringing a food truck mindset to a brick and mortar location will ensure they will struggle to build a loyal customer base. But perhaps they are following the philosophy of so many of their neighboring restaurants on 192...just get the tourists in once.
If you happen to luck into arriving when they decide to open, you could end up with well made, good tasting food. But never decide to drive there expecting them to be open.
Second Update - August 2024. Following the reply from the owner (and noticing a posted change to their operating hours) I returned to give them another chance. They were open when advertised and the cheesesteak remained legit. Sandwich was made to order, which is great but will result in a slightly slower turn around time after you order than they used to be able to achieve, especially if you arrive right after they open for lunch. But the quality is what matters so I'm thrilled that I'll be able to continue recommending them.
Update - August 2024. This location is now under new ownership and has expanded their menu to focus on schwarma and halal food. They may be great, but on three occasions I have tried to visit them during normal business hours and they are locked up with no indication of when they will reopen. So no way that I can confirm if their cheesesteaks remain as excellent as they were. :-(
Previous review - New favorite cheesesteak in Central Florida! Amoroso's rolls, high quality steak, grilled onions just right. This place gets it! Real taste of south east...
Read moreAbsolutely disgusting. One of the worst dining experiences Iâve ever had in Central Florida â hands down. The food? FAKE, FROZEN, and FLAVORLESS. The owner? Rude, condescending, and smug â hiding his sarcasm and clear racial undertones behind fake smiles and dramatic eye rolls. Itâs all an act, and not a convincing one.
Letâs get into the food: They market these sad excuses as âPhilly cheesesteaksâ â what a joke. Youâre paying top dollar for low-grade, frozen meat thatâs full of fat and completely tasteless. They drown it in salt to distract from how awful it is. The owner claims it's ribeye, but itâs more like bottom-of-the-barrel scraps you'd expect from a dollar store freezer.
This isnât a real Philly cheesesteak spot â itâs a frozen food trap wrapped in lies. If you want a frozen steak sandwich, save your money and make it at home for a fraction of the price.
And donât believe the fake narrative about âold ownershipâ being the problem. The current team is just as bad, if not worse. Theyâre selling Costco and Restaurant Depot ingredients at inflated prices while pretending itâs some kind of premium experience. Total scam.
The only reason this place has a 4.5-star rating is because of reviews from years ago, under completely different owners. Those days are long gone. This is now a tourist trap with garbage food and offensive service.
Avoid this place at all costs. There are countless better spots in Orlando and Kissimmee that wonât insult your wallet â or your...
