If you have an allergy or appreciate good service you should find another restaurant to dine at because this one is NOT IT. When we dined here a year ago we had a lovely experience, and I’m sad to say that the change in staff has ruined the place. We mentioned a mushroom allergy for one friend at the beginning of our service (like we have at countless restaurants) and asked for everyone’s orders to be made without. We checked AT LEAST 5 times throughout our order with our server and the other servers helping to to be sure items did not have mushrooms included in them. Every question about the risk of cross contamination and if there were mushrooms in a dish we ordered was met with puzzled stares and the wait staff collectively scratching their heads and they hemmed and hawed over the ingredients in the food they were serving. This should have been our first clue that we needed to take our business elsewhere, but we persevered. At certain points our waiter walked away from our table in the middle of our discussion about the allergy- perhaps to check with the kitchen? But alas I do not know since he didn’t tell us, only for him to return and tell me they can’t clean the steamer they make dumplings in AS HE HANDS US THE DUMPLINGS that we wouldn’t have ordered had we been made aware of this before he put it in with the kitchen. The other food comes out, and mind you none of the items we ordered had mushrooms listed on the menu, and yet two of the dishes ended up with mushrooms in them without our table being told. These items at least were not for the customer with an allergy, so we figured it would be safe enough. For one of the rolls we ordered I asked if it could be made with cucumber instead of avocado, which once again, I would have not ordered if I’d been told the sushi bar doesn’t take alterations, and you guessed it, there’s the avocado. When asking if it could be remade I was told the kitchen was closed, while watching another sushi order come out about 10 minutes later. At this point the only things our friend with the allergy has had is the miso soup, edamame, and jalapeño yellowtail appetizer, all of which we have been told do not have mushrooms or truffle oil in them. Despite this, they begin to feel the effects of their allergy, so we elect to stop eating and run the person with the allergy to the hospital while the rest of us stay to deal with the check. Upon asking to speak with the manager to let them know that there has been cross contamination in their kitchen we watched as the wait staff gathered to decide how to handle the situation. The manager himself was rude, condescending and did not offer an apology or any type of explanation for the cross contamination other than that their kitchen was small. The same kitchen that we dined with a year ago and had no issue, which can only lead me to believe that their staff is unable to keep a sanitary working environment in their kitchen these days. At no point during our meal were we made aware that they were unable to accommodate allergies, but upon reading recent reviews after the fact it is clear they cannot. I was disappointed to see every single member of the staff proceed to not care about the situation, when food allergies are a very real and dangerous. We have eaten at countless restaurants and NEVER had an experience as bad and unapologetic as this one. Save yourself the trouble of dealing with their inexperienced waitstaff and downright condescending manager and find another...
Read moreDO NOT GO TO THIS RESTAURANT IF YOU HAVE AN ALLERGY
I have many friends with allergies and have been to countless restaurants with those friends and never have I encountered an establishment like this. They showed a complete lack of care and awareness about the two allergies we had at the table. We stressed MULTIPLE times that there was an allergy with a concern of cross contamination. They explained that they steam the gyoza in the same steamer as items containing mushrooms but did not seem willing or understanding at the idea of cleaning the steamer to make sure there was not any contamination. When asked about other food items, it was the same response. We did not order food items that listed having had mushrooms in them and yet multiple people at the table had food arrive containing mushrooms. Allergies are not something to take lightly in any situation and this establishment did not even take heed to it at all. Having to be told multiple times that there was an allergy and then left feeling unsafe eating the food, even the food they said didn’t contain mushrooms couldn’t be guaranteed to not have any cross contamination. My friend did begin to feel extremely ill after eating and had to abruptly leave dinner. No food was offered to be comped and the manager was less than understanding. He doubled down on the fact that we had been notified of cross contamination (about the gyoza, none of the other food to be clear) but never once apologized or explained why his staff was not willing to clean their equipment aside from saying that the kitchen was small. (If your restaurant is dirty and unsanitary then just say that.) He was extremely condescending in his manner of explanation, or lack thereof. I will repeat, do not go here if you have any kind allergy or sensitivity. If you can’t clean (or won’t clean) then just say that instead of endangering your customers with your carelessness. I try to be understanding of being short staffed but I am absolutely not understanding of the blatant lack of care showed to my friend who has a life threatening allergy. Inconsiderate, condescending, and rude....

Honestly, sushi is the easiest food to make. You can't screw up natural ingredients when they are mostly raw! So, the key to excellent is the rice! A good sushi chef knows the proper portions of rice, vinegar, sugar, and secret ingredients to make the best sushi rice.
The miso soup was awfully bland, tasted more like hot water me xed with miso paste! Real miso soup should be cooked with proper ingredients and not just paste.
The sashimi rice and sushi rice wer awful. You can't screw fresh ingredient.
The onion rings used tempura batter so it is out of this world excellent! Kudo for making the American dish fantastic!
First, the servers and possibly the kitchen crew tells you whether the restaurant is truly a Japanese restaurant.
Second, servers should be well versed in the Japanese menu items. They are not.
Third, the quality of the food is not up to standard starting with the sushi rice. It will be more like a Chinese and American cuisine hangout instead of Japanese. Taste the items that resembles Chinese items, you'll know the difference compared to tasting the sushis. Google if you want to know what are the Chinese items.
