We drove from Destin to eat here for breakfast. I called ahead of time to ask "what the current wait time was". I was told there was NO WAIT and was ecstatic as every other breakfast restaurant was an hour or two wait, so I told them we would be there shortly. Arrived to see people lining up at the entrance and the only instructions posted on the door were to not yell at the waitstaff. After 5 minutes of standing there aimlessly, a girl working there walked out and made the announcement that their dining room was closed, there was no waitstaff, and the restaurant was only offering TO-GO food which could be eaten anywhere on property outside. I was a little confused why the girl on the phone forgot to mention the reason why there was no wait, but decided to stay and order from anyways. We placed an order for 4 girls, with the understanding they would call one of us as soon as all 4 orders were ready. After waiting outside (very little shaded spots to eat btw) I went and checked with the girls we ordered from. They said they were waiting on one more order. 10 minutes later, my friend went and did the same when she saw someone behind us going to pick up their order. Apparently the last entree came out and they forgot to call us so the food so our food was just sitting there. They ran out of cheese for the grits and didn't bother telling us (which we all paid extra for) and 3 out of the 4 orders also came out wrong or missing something. When brought to their attention, they made excuses but were not apologetic one bit. As of right now, the only thing going in their favor is the location. We were really looking forward to eating here so this was a major...
Read moreMy visit to Sailor's Grill left me with mixed feelings. The food quality was decent, with fresh ingredients and an enjoyable taste. I ordered the breakfast platter with a side of pancakes, and I must say, it was the first time I had pancakes that were fluffy but done right. It was almost like the perfect fusion between a biscuit and a pancake, and it worked surprisingly well. However, the presentation and flavor combinations of the other dishes could use some improvement, and the creativity was a bit lacking. The menu variety was satisfactory, but I would've appreciated more options catering to dietary needs. On the plus side, the ocean-side view was a nice touch and made the dining experience more enjoyable.
Service-wise, I found the staff to be knowledgeable and attentive, but the friendliness and efficiency were not up to par. It took about an hour for our food to come out, which was quite disappointing. The ambiance and atmosphere were rather average, with nothing particularly outstanding about the decor, lighting, or music, except for the lovely ocean view. Noise levels were manageable, though. Cleanliness could have been better, especially in the dining area, but the restrooms and utensils were acceptable.
When it comes to value for money, Sailor's Grill is a good choice with reasonable pricing, good quality food, and satisfying portion sizes. It's not a bad place to grab a meal, but there's definitely room for improvement, particularly in terms of service efficiency and friendliness. The unique pancakes were a highlight, though, and might be worth a try for...
Read moreWe wanted brunch on Sunday and decided to try something we haven’t before. I have to honestly say I was underwhelmed with Sailor’s Grill. The service was top notch albeit a little on the slow side but it’s Sunday and we weren’t in a hurry. The menu was simple but sounded delicious. We ordered the potato bowl, Monterrey tacos with andouille sausage on the side, and a bacon omelette with a side of fruit. The bacon omelette ended up not getting eaten because the bacon was over cooked however our server graciously comped it for us so we will put that aside. The Monterrey tacos were over stuffed with bland eggs with very little cheese or guacamole. However the guacamole it did have was delicious! But for $12 it was disappointing because they were no where near full of anything good besides over cooked eggs. The andouille sausage was delicious! The potato bowl was good (the potato’s were our favorite besides the mimosas and bloody Mary’s) but the sausage gravy tasted only of flour and not much else. Our ticket averaged $16 per person and I just don’t think it’s a good value for the food quality. We definitely want to try the lunch here because the menu also looks really good but as far as breakfast goes, next time I’ll stick with a Mimosa...
