Sammy Barker's — Restaurant in Florida

I am sad to say, this place was horrible. After looking at their menu I was kind of impressed and excited to eat here. Upon my arrival I was completely let down. The place was packed, I could only find three dirty tables that were opened. After halfway cleaning the table off add sitting down, about 10 minutes later did someone come by and acknowledge that I was sitting at the table. There was not enough waiters and waitresses in the place. After 30 minutes of being in the restaurant, did our waitress finally take our order. While waiting 45 minutes if not longer to receive our food, I had to serve myself and my family, by getting up and going to refill our drinks. As I watched the so called cooking staff fumbling with everyone else’s orders. I knew I should have just went to eat McDonald’s or some other dog food. Finally the food came out my waffles and chicken was so well done, I literally thought I was chewing burnt rubber. My entire family complained about the food and how nasty it was. I normally don’t write a review about something unless it really stands out. This is one of those places, well over priced for some amazingly worthless crappie food, well understaffed, non cooking restaurant. If that interest you than this is the place to go. When I pay that much for food I expect at least one part of my experience to be good. Nothing was good and I wasted a lot of my time here. I will not be going back to this place again. So I came here on a social networking night for my profession. There was plenty of seating options available for all of us to put some high tops together. The place is apparently new. So I was excited to be trying it out. The atmosphere is very clean and modern with two distinct halves of the restaurant, the food counter and the bar on the other side.

I didn't venture to the bar, but I did go up to the counter service area and ask the guy what the best food item on the menu was. He said the Sammy Burger (American cheese, pickles, onions, Sammy Sauce). So I got it. The burger was small in diameter, maybe four and a half inches, but there were two patties on it. The burger itself was very good. You could tell that it was, as claimed, freshly ground in house daily, and not some Bubba Burger. The cheese and pickles and onions were all very clean and not overcrowded on the burger, with the onions being the main tenant of the show, The sauce was very mild and creamy, kind of like thousand island. Overall, it was good, and I wasn't mad about the price. Even though the burgers were well done, they still had a good amount of moisture, and weren't too dry.

$2.50 for the fountain drink cup wasn't very nice, though. That brought my total up to something I was a little surprised about. But overall, the atmosphere of this joint was so nice, and the burger was really good quality. I recommend you try...

Edit to previous review: We have been to Sammy Barker's many times. We never had any issues until this last visit two days ago. For starters, we went to get our drinks after ordering. To our horror, the black mold/slime that was on our cup from the ice machine was shocking. No where on any ice machine should there be a build up of any kind. This is important because the machine should be cleaned throughly. I brought the cup up to the employee working the cash register. She assured me that she would let a manager know. As we sat waiting for our food order, we witnessed someone unclog the ice machine BUT did not take the time to check out the cleanliness or should I say lack of cleanliness of the machine. We decided to go to the bar to get our ice for our drinks. I also informed the bartender of the ice machine's lack of cleanliness. She was horrified & very apologetic. She proceeded to fill our cups with ice from the bar & assured me she would let someone know. She did not. We witnessed multiple customers continue to get ice from a machine that dispensed dirty ice. No manager ever came to us about this issue, even after showing the dirty ice to two employees. The floors were incredibly sticky as if the stickiness had been that way for several days.
