I'm born and raised near Philly, so I grew up on Pat's, Geno's, Jim's and others. Let's start with the good: All the right quality ingredients. Amoroso rolls make this all possible, decent steak though somewhat bland. You need to specifically tell them Cheese Wiz rather than "white American" (that's not quite authentic). This is where it turns downward. First, the day I went, they immediately told me they had no onions. Huh?!? I can't order a "Cheese Wit", so it's only "Cheese Witout". So I special order mine with Wiz instead of American for a true like-to-like comparison. Here's where things went really wrong -- 20 minutes for a 'minute steak'. To be authentic you lop the cheese over the steak once in the roll. These guys? On the griddle, and then chop this up until it has the consistency of whatever someone vomited after a booze bender. They may as well have shoved this into a blender and made it a puree, it didn't look appetizing. And it tasted only slightly better than it looked. Want a 4 or 5 star rating? Do not mince the steak up so it's unrecognizable, and for Wiz, just lop it over when served.
My quest for a decent Philly Cheesesteak in Florida continues. This kind of gets there, but...
Read moreBorn and raised in Philly how do you review a Florida cheese steak? Does it get a curve? With the big bold south Philly sign and the word Philly written absolutely everywhere I say no. Pros: ROLL WAS EXCELLENT, dill pickles were fresh. CONS: First of all no cheese steak is served with bell peppers. The meat was somehow soft. If it weren’t for the roll teeth aren’t necessary here. The taste was close but not enough for me to really want to return unless it were to order plain rolls. Another local known standard of it doesn’t need ketchup it’s good. I had to add a healthy amount of ketchup. The prices were a little high and I got charged 12 cents per pickle slice. You have two really types of Philly steaks. The originals like pats, Steve’s prince and genos. Then you have the standard chopped steaks. I’ve had thousands of them. This place wouldn’t be in business long. In south, north or even northeast Philly. If you have a craving this might take the edge off but it won’t be the cure. Tip: if your brand is so heavily SOUTH PHILLY then stay true to the name. Or lighten up the branding. The food and atmosphere were not Philadephia at all. Way...
Read moreThis restaurant is so poorly set up. The counter where they take the order is also where they hand out the food, so the customers are constantly in the way of the staff.
I went in for lunch today. Waited over 30 minutes before asking about my order and the extremely rude old woman at the counter taking orders told me there was a line ahead of me. I politely explained I had order almost 30 minutes before and she waited another 5 before even asking about my order. By the time she asked, I heard the line cook say they hadn't even thrown it on the grill!!! Absolutely unacceptable. I was not only disappointed, but also angry and HUNGRY as I had now wasted my entire lunch break WAITING. I canceled my order and asked for a refund, and they told me "it doesn't always print a receipt but you should be good. Just call us if you get charged."
You can bet I will be watching my bank account like a hawk, and if I am charged you can bet I will be returning to the store. Otherwise, I will never step foot back in this restaurant and will strongly reccomend anyone I know and anyone who reads this review to not give this place your business. They do...
