Arrived in town after a 20hr straight thru drive from Chicago. Checked into our room and ventured out to find food so we could eat, shower and get some sleep asap.
Found this place in the little strip mall around the corner from the hotel. Decided pizza sounded better than burgers so figured I'd give them a try.
Keep in mind I've been behind the wheel driving for 20 hrs straight, was very tired and sore and was not in the most pleasant of moods at the time. Upon entering was greated by the lady behind the countered and she confirmed they could deliver to our room. Before I had my order completed she had me laughing and feeling as if I'd been coming here regularly for years. Ordered a pizza and breadsticks. She told me they had some fresh cookies coming out of the oven shortly and would I like to try one. Sounded good so ordered a couple of those as well. I paid and was told 30 minutes it would be at my room.
Went back to the room and showered and got dressed. Looked at the time and was just shy of 25 min since i ordered. Figuring like most pizza place 30 min means 45 or more, I started to unpack to try and stay awake until food arrived. It wasn't two minutes later had a knock on the door. Yep, our food. 26 minutes just like promised.
The bread sticks were a very large portion. Enough so I almost didn't want any pizza. But it smelled so good I had to try some. It was made exactly as ordered with a more than fair amount of toppings. Still very hot and fresh. It did not disappoint either. It wasn't a Chicago style deep dish but far better than most regular oven baked pizzas I've had.
As I put the leftover pizza in the fridge and was shutting down the lights for bed I saw the cookies I had forgotten about. My wife and I each had one. Still somewhat warm, soft and chewy like homemade. Ended up being the perfect end to a very long two days.
We visit down there every 2-3 months to see our son and grandkids. Am looking forward to them being our welcome to town dinner on our future trips...
Read moreThis use to be my go to place whenever I wanted pizza and wings. Delivery can be a little slow sometimes but that didn't really matter. The past few months the quality of food has gone down in my opinion. To the point that I stopped going there all together and driving out of my way to East Coast pizza off Big Bend road. Basically driving past this place to drive 15-20 minutes down the road. I decided to give this place another try out. But I called ahead of time and spoke to the manager that was there that day. She was very polite and listened to my concerns. I explained to here that I use to order several times a week and now I do not. I asked that she would make sure that the quality of my food was good! I shouldn't have to call and make special requests just to get food made correctly. Since that one time I've attempted again to order hoping they would get it right. The pizza is just not what it use to be. Which is a huge disappointment! Today was the last time I will ever go there again. I ordered my usual pizza. Sausage and Pepperoni. Because of my previous disappointments with the quality of their food. I always check what it looks like before paying. And it was exactly as expected! Where's the cheese! The explanation that was given was that for months they have been over proportioning their pizza's with cheese. And they now decide to scale back to cut cost. So basically the customer gets a lower quality product in order to fatten their pockets! They definitely lost a customer for good! I'll make the drive past them to go pick up a better quality pizza. And to the owner please don't insult me with any offers or discounts. I decline in advanced. Below is a picture of how their pizza's use to look like months ago. Compared to how it has been looking the last few times I've ordered there....
Read moreNow, I never write reviews, especially on public eating places. this place, customer service sucks..badly. One my second time of trying(first time was equally bad, but I didn't think it's worth writing about), recently, I encountered a person who answered the phone, spoke very quickly when I asked for today's specials, and when I asked him to repeat, as I don't hear that well, besides having English as my 3rd language, the person tried imitating a speech disabled person (with laughter at the back ground). Oh, the had given me three choices, when the spoke very fast, but only repeated one, only one! Then, I decided to order my own specially made Pizza. I was give the total, only two choices of meat and green peppers, of $13...something. Even before I gave him my contact info, and knowing when to pick up, the phone was cut. Knowing this is the second time, I had encountered the same customer service, even my friends were like, that's it!, I wouldn't go there, hey, you just lost 3 other potential customers!, Bravo!..I would think if they learned that the customers actually make the income for them, they would act better, especially in an area, where people are older folks, and not only hearing, but also phone conversations are a challenge. I opted to try another place, which had customer eccentric service, and even a higher price of pizza. thank you hungry Howe's, sometimes, cheap gets...
