If I could give 0 stars I would. I just spent 1 hour in their drive thru waiting for my food. Not because there were cars in front of me, but because they have terrible service. The lady at the cash register took my credit card and then disappeared for 30 mins. I had no idea where she went, or why she still had my card. The handed me a soupy milk shake that looked like it was made hours ago and they just added sprinkles and handed it to me. I honked my horn, since no one was coming near the window for me to ask to get a new milkshake, nor to explain why they are still holding my card. When no one came to the window I called the restaurant. I watched someone pick up the phone, and then tell the manager I wanted to speak to them, and then hang up. I called back (all the while still no sight of my card or the employee that took it). After getting SOMEONE on the phone, they explained to me the manager was to busy to take my call. I explained I am in the drive thru and someone left with my card and the milkshake they have me was watery. They offered to have my shake made again, but offered no clue as to where my card or the employee that took it is. After getting off the phone and 45 mins later, the employee showed up on her cell phone!! Did she take pictures of my card? Did she give the numbers to someone over the phone? I do not know and will not know until someone tries to use it. She hands me my food but not my card. When I explain she still has my card, she tells me she is waiting for a receipt to print. HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE YOU HAD MY CARD FOR 3/4 OF AN HOUR!!! Then the lady making my shake shows up and says" take this shake, here". I explained I wanted to make sure she made it the way I ordered and she says "huuuuuuh take it, I made it with three scoops" etc etc etc. I asked her to give me the corporate phone number, because at this point I can not believe the way I was treated. The lady looked at me and said "pishhhhh " and closed the drive thru window. Um hello? I called for the third time to ask the manager to come to the window. The manager did finally oblige, and she proceeded to explain to me that the reason this whole ordeal took 45 mins is because the cashier accidentally hit cash instead of card, and she was waiting for her to come clear it. So the wait is the managers fault, OK but why in God's name did this woman walk around with my card for 30 mins and not say a word? When I ask the manager for the cooperate number she explained it is on the receipt. I then asked for her name and the two employees that had been so rude, she refused to give me the first name of the two employees that are clearly wearing name tags! Why wear name tags If I am unable to have their first names. The manger lied about some policy that doesn't exist, because they are required to wear new tags so they can receive compliments and critiques. As with any fast food chain. This is beneath Steak,'n shake standards and I for one will...
Read moreThis 24 hour Steak -n-Shake is the only one in Sarasota. The convenient location offers a good size casual inside seating area with waitresses. I must say sometimes they are in short supply ! The Inside Counter service is unique in this time & age. It is fun to watch the cooking areas & patrons checking out. Don't miss trying the various Chili type Spaghetti dishes. They grow on you. Not to mean to "grow" your body ! Most contribute the unique chili sauce from originating in the Midwest during the 1920s. So the taste has had a long proven run. Milwaukee & Cincinnati, Ohio are amongst the cities claiming credit for the 1920's recipe. The various topped Chili Mac spaghetti noddle dishes, the different Steak burgers, & the friendly drive thru window workers are always enjoyed. Like Starbucks & the others, one may now download the quick payment app. I confess, these apps seem too, too easy for me to utilize. Another convenience is the Delivery contracted with the Uber System. But Do consider the travel time & the affect on the 'not -to-miss' Steak-n-Shake's supreme tasting & the variety of Milkshakes ! Here, I find No Worries about the May 10th as noted. Afteral, How many other Florida restaurants get a perfected clean up that we never hear about ? A 24 hour restaurant does not have the luxury of closed hours. Think about it, a restaurant's closed nightly hours are great for any unnoticed clean ups. Back to the business. A visit there tops off a 24 hour trip to a large Walmart, a helpful Home Depot trip opened 6am until 10pm & until 8 pm Sunday, or even an LA Fitness trip ! The Steak-n-Shake is housed in the Stores' combination parking lot. Yet the Steak-n-Shake is easily accessible from the street. Need its' Sarasota Zip Code of 34233? Find the restaurant from the East side of Cattleman Road, South of Bee Ridge Road . Should you arrive from 75 & the Bee Ridge exit for the two "get it all" stores & the casual Steak-n- Shake restaurant, travel West from the exit, then immediately South from the first traffic light The visit is well worth passing the McDonalds on the corner. I have even enjoyed a Thanksgiving dinner at this Steak-n- Shake before an early 'Black Friday' opening jump at the Walmart. Personally, I disagree with the restaurant's graph noting a slower 9 pm business. With the closing hour of many Cattleman Road area businesses and my proven preference of late night shopping, the drive thru is busy at 9pm to 9:20 pm. But even so, a wait area pass the window ensures your order will be hot. When living in Naperville of Chicago, the Steak-n-Shake there was consistent with the above good...
Read moreSad shell of a formerly good restaurant.... only giving 1 star because the food that we were able to get was decent. First off you order on a kiosk with no human interaction or clue as to what they are out of, which is where the issues began... We ordered 2 burger combo meals and a chili 5 way. We go get a table and clean off 1 of the 2 dirty highchairs for my daughter and the go get our drinks..an employee comes out and asks about for order #101 which was ours and proceeds to tell me they are out of noodles and asked if I'd like to get something different, to which I said no thank you and just to cancel it and he says the manager will have to do that. We get our food (much longer wait than would've been expected as there was only 2 other tables and they already had their food) and I again ask the employee if they took it off the bill and he says "she'll have to do it when she's done with milkshakes". We proceed to eat our dinner and finish up I go to the counter to have someone fix our check and a second employee drops a to-go order on the counter and starts to walk away and then turns back and asks" do you need something" which I tell her that we need the chilli 5 way taken off our check and she again offers me something else , to which I tell her we have already eaten and don't want anything else, just to take it off our check. She then says the have a no refund policy and she will have to talk to her manager, which she spoke to on the headset (supposedly) and tells me they can't do anything. The only reason I did not put up more of a fight at the counter was because I was with my mother and18 month old daughter. This is completely unacceptable and we will not be returning. The manager never came and spoke to us or anything. Had I known they were out of the chilli 5 way I would have never ordered it (only ordered in the first place so my daughter could eat some pasta and shredded cheese) and had I known there were no refunds I would've canceled the whole order from the start. Completely ridiculous and unprofessional, it's honestly sad.
If you do not have an item, it shouldn't be an option to order. The inability to refund is ridiculous, and scammy. If you don't have staff to run a restaurant, make...
