Most people appear to love (LOVE!!) Don Julio's. Lack of options, maybe? Not sure. I find them mostly ok. I've had the steak and carnita tacos, and the guacamole. So, to be fair, i haven't had an extensive tasting of their menu. First the steak. If you've ever been to Don Julio's, you'll notice that the first 3 items on the menu are red meat items. That would be the "asada", "bistec" and "fajita". When I asked what was the difference, I was advised that they are "all the same". I find that to be incredibly misleading. Maybe not malicious, but misleading nonetheless. The meat has been consistently though, and not incredibly flavorful (at least enough to make up for the thoughness). Strike one. Then, there's the carnita. Except it really isn't. It's pulled pork (and if you don't know the difference, please look it up. You're alrealy in Google for crying out loud!). Depending on how busy they are, the pork may or may not get seared before being served. The searing -or lack thereof- makes a world of difference since, in it's absence, there isn't any flavor concentration. Strike two. The guacamole. Freshly made every time you order it. There hasn't been a single time that it didn't need additional seasoning when we ate it. It had no seasoning whatsoever, therefore bland and fairly tasteless, which is a shame because all the elements for a great guacamole are there. Fresh ripe avocados, diced tomatoes, fresh cilantro, onions. But the absence of lime while making it, and some aggressive seasoning are key, and missing. Strike three. Incredible potential, just short...
Read moreAfter some time the food is nownlackong. As if they prefer quantity and cost control over the quality they used to deliver. We had taken a break from dining with them after a negative experience, which includes one of our meals having a large piece of plastic wrap in it that had fallen off the pan and into the meat and never pulled out. When we first poo ulled it out, we swore it was a glove or a condom, that is how disgusting it looked. But the owner and workers didn't rally care about what happened.
We recently went back and the food has changed. Rice is either instant or reheated multiple times. Beans are chalky. Chorizo is dry and lacking flavor and spice. Chicken in the flautas are dry and the guacamole was unseasoned. While the horchata is home made it was not a good batch as ours was chalky and extremely heavy on the cinnamon.
It is now 3 stars, as we know the potential this place has, my son didn't have anything negative to say about his burrito, they seem more friendly now than before, and they still use the locally made corn tortillas.
Original rating 5* - True Mexican street tacos at there best. Including offal, homemade chips and guacamole, and the...
Read moreI have been coming to this food truck for almost a year. I get the same Meals every time I come here the taco dinner with rice beans: 3 tacos with cheese & fried onions with asada. I took the picture of my last charge which is $24.88 well, not today there was a new girl here and she decided to charge me $.25 per taco fried onions and $.25 per taco and it was gonna come out to $28-$29 I am extremely disappointed. I asked her why she's charging me that?? She said, oh it's a NEW thing... but she didn't tell me that when I was ordering, she expected me to pay the price and take it I still over I was still overcharged. She still charged me $26 and some change. I think she was getting a tip out of that or something. I do not think I will be back that's not how you treat loyal Customers at least give me a heads up. I hope the owner reads this and the trains her on customer service. I will be going to the other food truck on the side of town for 3.75 per taco more expensive but will be worth it because they don't charge for cilantro, onions or cheese!! The price always is the same. I could add anything on the taco and they never ever charged me something without...
