My father always said to me as a child that any job worth doing is worth doing well. This venerable sentiment is clearly not felt at the fish house. An absurd proposition would not be to walk on water or to move mountains, but to get me to go to the fish house again. The seats were like bricks. Let’s start with the fact they dont even consider enlightened people like me who don’t like lemon in their water. Courteous restaurants just put it on the edge of the water so you can squeeze it in take it off. Not these guys. They just dump the lemon into the water, polluting it with the sour taste of the lemon. If I wanted that, I’d get lemonade.
Debating whether the restaurant should be called Dinner, some assembly required or the wish house, because you’ll be wishing you didn’t come here. It took great effort to rip the shell off the shrimp, it’s like the “chef” just threw some prawns in a pot and called it a day. The crab legs were at best two days old, hard and chunky. The bathroom was abhorrent. I’m literally holding it in til I get home and I have serious plumbing problems (both metaphorically and literally).
We came here because we were told the jalapeño poppers were really good. Unfortunately, their flimsy, cheap menus have not been updated and the poor waitress said they haven’t had those in months. Fries vs flies, which was worse? Fries were stale. I would have loved to flavor them with some honey mustard or just regular since I doubt this excuse for an establishment carry’s anything beyond Heinz 57, but the waitress didn’t bother to ask. In fact she popped in once after my food was done to ask if everything’s okay. It’s not.
Now that we’re done with fries, we’ll move on to the flies. There were multiple flies in the restaurant. They landed on the food so often we named them buzz and pesky, in fact as I am writing this very sentence buzz just landed on my index finger and, to top it all off, it started raining and they didn’t even bother to say hey want to come in or put up the umbrella on our table. We were left to our own devices. Will NEVER be back, so long as I live I swear upon my grandfathers grave, May god, allah, yahweh, jehovah, Thor, Vishnu, the buddah and every other deity and prophet conceived by humankind curse me should I debase myself enough to come to this pitiful excuse for a restaurant!...
Read moreI was really looking forward to trying the Fish House Restaurant after hearing glowing recommendations from friends who called it a great "locals spot." Unfortunately, my experience left me frustrated and disappointed—so much so that I never actually got to eat there.
Getting into the restaurant is seriously challenging. There are two entrances off Bonita Beach Road, but both are hard to see until you’re right on top of them. The road itself is busy, and cars fly by way over the speed limit, making turning or slowing down stressful and unsafe. Hedges and fence block the view, and the sign is extremely small and not visible until you're practically pulling into the restaurant.
When Google Maps guided me to what it thought was the main entrance, I pulled in, only to be met by an extremely aggressive driver who yelled, beeped, and waved his hands—apparently upset that I’d come in the “wrong way.”. Yet his level of aggression was was way beyond what would be assumed for entering accidentally from the wrong entrance to a parking lot (it was pure road rage aggression, making the area completely unsafe for me and my partner). There was a small sign of this this before turning (barely visible signage from the main road), and by the time I realized the mistake I was already across the sidewalk and on the property. Backing out into traffic at those speeds felt dangerous, so I waited until I could turn around and leave safely.
I gave it another shot by pulling into the next entrance just down the road (about 25 feet away). At this point, another large group was milling around between the entrances, apparently waiting for tables. As we pulled in, we got a series of dirty looks and scoffs, which made us feel unwelcome and out of place. At this point, I was so uncomfortable with the whole ordeal that I gave up and left.
This isn’t the first time I’ve encountered unfriendly attitudes in the area, but the combination of confusing parking, lack of large signage, and downright hostility from both drivers and waiting patrons made this an extremely negative experience. I wish I could have tried the food, but I simply didn’t want to put myself through it. Perhaps the experience is different if you’re a regular or a local, but as a visitor hoping for a nice meal, I did not feel welcome or safe.
I hope others have a...
