SO, IT’S MY FAVORITE TIME OF YEAR IN SWFL!!!!! SIZZLE DINING MONTH (EVERY SEPTEMBER) • I had the pleasure of visiting A Table Apart (a participating restaurant in sizzle dining month). HINT: it was so good and you NEED to try this global cuisine cuz I’m still drooling over their food. It was UNBUCKLE YOUR PANTS GOOD. • Sizzle Dining month is where you can get amazing multi course meals for a fixed price through September 30th in SWFL. • For every Sizzle Dining meal purchased during the four-week event, each participating restaurant will donate $1.00 to Blessings in a Backpack SWFL, a local 501c3 charity that feeds food insecure elementary students every weekend during the school year. #sizzledining #swfl #septemberfinds #foodies #dinewithpurpose

5 for effort, 3 for ambience and 4 for food. Been trying to get here for a long time, because there just aren't a lot of great restaurants in SWFL and we want to support those that try. And a Table Apart is a great effort. First it's wine and beer, no cocktails. Further, there is no creative solution for the designated driver. Iced tea or Perrier. The experience as to the physical restaurant is somewhere between bohemian and supper club down on it's luck. But still, a quiet ambience with a respectful place to enjoy the food. Outside, however, is a little inexplicable. Fenced off with a trellis from the parking lot in full earshot of Bonita Beach Road took something away from the experience. They should screen better or move some of the parking space on the side or back to create a proper outdoor dining space. We had some wins and losses on the the menu. The octopus app was good, but came out a little cool. The kitchen did manage to cook it properly so that it was not chewy. The burrata salad, normally a standard, weirdly had unsliced, whole cherry tomatoes; you couldn't get your fork in them to slice them. Imagine stabbing and launching one across the table! The reason to come here is the featured triple tail fish dish. A japanese inspired smoky miso ginger sauce is addictive. Our waiter told us some people come in and order it for the whole table. It's amazing. Unfortunately, nothing else we tried achieved anything close to this; the pork chop waaay overcooked and dry, and the pasta uninspired.

We had a very disappointing experience and will not be back. While the staff was very attentive and friendly, the food was incredibly salty, to a degree that we couldn’t even finish any of the courses of the $45 3-course meal we ordered. My friend and I each tried three different dishes, and all were not good. While the prawns and huli huli pork were well cooked, her sauce was too sweet and the prawns were too salty. Same for my pork. My main course was the mahi mahi, which was perfectly cooked and very tender, but again so salty that I could not finish it. The potato cake it came with lacked flavor, other than salt, and looked very unappetizing. My friend’s meal was pretty looking and well cooked but too salty. Her vegan ice cream sundae was fine except for the whipped topping which she did not eat. My taro dessert was very sweet and tasted fine, but I’m not sure what those cubes were and they didn’t add anything to the dish. Perhaps its our lack of familiarity with Hawaiian traditions, but I’m pretty sure this kind of salt level is not part of it. We ended the night with a $150 bill, which included three glasses of wine. Considering the dated and tacky ambiance, and the $25-$37 prices prices per dish, I would not recommend this restaurant. Their website gives a very different impression from what it is really like.

Below this new review you can read about our first visit.

This time around we were a party of 7 with a Birthday Boy(not a child). The service was excellent and timely. We sat outside with a 7:30pm reservation on a Friday night. The atmosphere was great and got better as less and less traffic passed by. For our starters there was an eggplant salad shared, a pear salad, tuna tataki, wedge salad and the eggplant caponata. For entrees we had the triple tail snapper, the curry x2, the steak of the evening which was shared, and the scallops. For dessert there were 2 creme brulee, the brownie al a mode, and the bread pudding which was noticeably better which was delightful. There were also 2 cappuccino one decaf on regular, a French press coffee, and an espresso. The table had 2 bottles of wine, a white named Decoy for California and a red Coté de Rhoné. Also enjoyed was the French beer the Blondy Velvet and a Stella. This was the perfect birthday dinner enjoyed by all.

We had an exceptional dinner there this evening. We were a party of four people. Three of us had alcohol, I had a nice French beer and the two others had Pinot grigio. The fourth did not have any alcohol. We started with a chicken liver pate which was delicious. We finished the entire plate. One of us had the wedge salad and devoured it, and I had the burrata and devoured it. For our main course, the prawn curry was ordered as well as two orders of the salmon and I had the short ribs. Everybody loved what they had and if I remember correctly all plates were finished. We had dessert which included two cappuccinos and to espressos as well as a bread pudding which was good but denser than you may expect, and I had a wonderful creme brulee. The service was a little slow to start, but I will accept that because they were full. Once it got going though it was exceptional. Our server was knowledgeable and the other staff were fantastic. If you can afford to go out to eat here then I would recommend it. I look forward to coming here again when I am back in town...
