My 1st experience at this supposedly "elegant" 5 star gem of a restaurant was everything except for 5 stars. Honestly, the 2 star rating was for the waitress Ayana who gathered our food order. The food was mediocre---just like other Jamaican cuisine to me that I have eaten, service horrible (too many younger employed kids who haven't been properly trained about customer service) and not to forget it was not worth the amount of money spent. I made reservations for a group of us. The instructions were to arrive 15 minutes prior to reservation time...which we did. As soon as we arrived we were told that live entertainment would be assessed a $5 cover charge per person. This would have been fine IF we were able to actually see the stage from where we were seated. Not to include the live entertainment segment was a one man/one band show (from what we saw when he packed up and headed out after 30 mins- an hour). Again the waitress who took our order was pleasant...NEVERTHELESS THE CHAOS BEGAN THEREAFTER!!!! If you have been to Godfrey's you know that with a reservation you ONLY have a 1 hour 30 minute time limit. Which again, I get it BUT, you can't expect to put a time limit on the people who are paying to eat at your establishment especially when you aren't fancy enough to hire top notch servers. The kids who are employed there are VERY VERY unprofessional and honestly I am unsure if they have been taught workplace etiquette. So whomever is over management thought it would be wise to provide a time limit and make sure that patrons got their food orders as soon as they were hot and ready! Great idea but what they didn't "think through" very well was how organized and coherent that transition from the kitchen to the table should be. The waitress who had taken our order was NOT the same persons who dropped our food off to the table. The persons who dropped our food off to the tables had orders mixed up to the point that some had gotten their appetizers and entrees and others were still awaiting appetizers or drinks. One person hadn't been told that they had ran out of an item in the back/kitchen and had sat there the entire time waiting until one of the guest spoke with management and he stated...I told your waitress to tell you we were out of salmon in the back...which she hadn't. To make matters worse, there was obviously a mix up because turn out there WAS in fact salmon in the back. The persons who dropped off our food was a very young unprofessional kid who did not speak loud enough for us to understand him with small tiny dreads. When we asked him to repeat the order his facial expression was very attitudinal (poor customer service experience number 1). Secondly he couldn't do his job properly because he spent most of the night talking with another young male at the bar looking in our direction with turned up noses and obviously attitude. As I looked around at all of the other workers in the building NO ONE...I mean NOT ONE adult corrected/addressed this behavior. Which was very shocking being again that Godfrey's is supposed to provide 5 star service. I experienced everything except. What I did experience was being in an unprofessionally ran establishment which overcharged for what they could not execute. I was enraged with the poor service for the price that was paid. Some of my other fellow friends are much more forgiving than I. This experience was very unpleasant. From one black owned business to another---food service is also customer service and everyone in the front line of your establishment represents YOU. Please do better in selecting your staff. Poorly trained young kids, along with some of the other things mentioned/addressed, sometimes tend to tarnish the well respected name I once heard of...
Read moreI really hate doing negative reviews but this was just so unacceptable it’s ridiculous. Went to this establishment today with my cousin. We drove over an hour and have been so excited to go visit. I have experienced Godfrey’s before and it was great but this will be a first for her. We make it around 3. I had my baby with me so I asked the waitress could she bring me a high chair. I had to ask her 3x for a high chair and she was in our area numerous of times. She seemed bothered by the fact I needed a high chair. Mind you, it’s not even pack or busy. 1st red flag! She then proceeded to take our order. We ordered drinks and an appetizer. I wanted the shrimp egg roll appetizer she said it wasn’t available so I got the jerk. We asked could we order our entree after our drinks come because we were still browsing the menu she stated they closed at 3 so no we needed to place all our order together now. Ok cool, as we’re waiting for our food 3 different parties are seated. On the page it stated they close at 4. So I’m confused because there was no need to lie about what time the establishment closed. 2nd red flag! A few minutes pass and our meat from our entree only was brought out and the kitchen food runner stated they are waiting on our sides (mac&cheese/cabbage). I ordered the jerk pork ribs and my cousin ordered the pork chops. The ribs were so tough thank God I have good teeth. I had to wrestle with the ribs the entire time. I only ate them because i was trying real hard not to be that type of customer. We both had the same sides. It’s about 20 mins have passed. The waitress keeps looking at us but never approached us after she took our order. At this point we’re communicating through the kitchen runner. So I asked about how much longer will it be she goes back and check then brings out the mac. It was cold the cheese wasn’t melted and no cabbage. At this point I’m irritated because this is just so unorganized and sloppy. The kitchen runner was nice she was doing all she could. So the cabbage finally come. It looked like somebody shredded some cabbage and mixed it in some mayo and through it in a fryer for a second and brought it out. It tasted awful. I have ate here before so I know how the food supposed to taste. The waitress comes back after all this has taken placed and I asked for a manager. She ask me for what smh. So the manager comes and I stably her approach is combative instead of trying to resolve the issue. So she finally says she will give us a credit on the bill. The credit was $5 funky dollars lol like are you serious. I didn’t even bother we just paid for the food and will not be returning and will make sure we inform all our family and friends what type of experience you May encounter while dining here. Food is too high to be giving people half a** meals and then being rude. The owner needs to go back and check with the type of employees he have working for him. So unprofessional. The bartender was really nice and the drinks were great. But other than that, 1/10 and that’s only for the...
Read moreI was so excited to try out this place everyone had been talking about! I pass by it daily on my commute to work, and couldn’t wait for the opportunity to give it a try! Upon entrance, the lady at the door was rude and yelling to the customers who had already eaten and paid to proceed out of her doorway and that she could not have them standing there blocking her doorway. I understood what she was saying, but it could have been said in a better way. Secondly, when I turned the corner to join the rest of my party, the other guest, not in my party, where looking as if they were in a busy emergency room waiting area waiting for their names to be called. I should have known something then. After we placed our order, we waited more than 10 minutes for everyone in our party of 8 to be served water, we were brought out our waters 2 at a time. Then we waited another 5 minutes for straws because the waitress only brought out 2 straws at a time. Not sure of what the significance of pairs were, but this is what we experienced. The 2 adult beverages were brought to the table in a timely manner and I heard they were the bomb! The wait for food was the worst. Everyone at our table received their food, except my son. After asking 2 different servers to check on my sons food and speaking with the general manager my son finally received his fried shrimp, yams, and fries. Unfortunately, everyone at the table had finished eating and it was taken back bc I told them I was not going to pay for it. I was told by the GM that there were only two people on the grill and that they were “backed up on orders back there”. To me this excuse was not good enough to have one person sitting at the table waiting for food while everyone else enjoys their meal. Not sure if the server forgot to call in his order or not, but either way I was offered nothing more than this piss poor excuse. The server did apologize for the horrible service and offered the option not to tip, because gratuity is automatically added for parties of 6 or more guest, but it was sarcastic and unauthentic. The server presumed to explain that we picked the wrong night to come on for family and children and that they are always busy on Saturday evenings. I guess families and children should not eat out on Saturday evenings and instead stay home and eat home cooked meals. Overall, the mixed greens, cornbread and the opportunity to spend time “OUT” with friends and family were the only highlights of my Godfrey’s experience. Nevertheless, I will not...
