Japan Express — Restaurant in Flowood

This place will surprise you. Let me get the negative out of the way. Our first time here, the young man helping us did not know the menu at all. He did not know the sauce that came with egg roll and finally decided it was an orange sauce. I asked for an eel sauce instead. He refused. Wanted to charge me more. Was ok had he been able to answer basic questions about the menu beforehand and even explain the sauces. Aside to that, the food was amazing! I sorta wanted it to be bad because of the service so I could dismiss the whole experience. But I simply cannot. The food was that good. I got the hibachi steak/scallop combo. The scallops were succulent and cooked to perfection. The steak was a bit chewy, but flavorful. The sauce was great. Vegetables were fresh and cooked to perfection. Rice was tasty and not overbearing. My wife’s egg rolls were fantastic, as well as her house (ginger dressing) salad. Clear soup was not remarkable and we ordered two, but only received one. I have ordered 3 times from this restaurant. The first time, they seemed to be trying to figure out the system, there were people and orders everywhere. The service is lack luster with no pleasantries. (No smiles, no thank yous, no welcomes). On my second order, I made it all the way home only to discover half my order was missing. The part that I did have was incorrect. I orderd shrimp and chicken hibachi which only had chicken. I contacted the establishment, the young man insisted the order was correct and went on to tell me that " sometimes the shrimp looks like chicken" I was appalled!! I was told I could come back and get the order. I arrived to pick up the order, no apologies were offered. The last time, I ordered shrimp and chicken hibachi this time I checked my order before leaving and again no shrimp. I took it back inside. The young lady took it to the back. Food was amazing. I really like the sushi options as well. Service did seem a little impolite though. Mind you, I was oblivious about the kiosk ordering, so I just ordered when I walked up to the front. The lady at the register was busy texting while I was trying to order from her, so I felt like the phone could have been put to the side for a sec. I dined in and was served food in styrofoam to-go tray (not sure if that was normal). I like the restaurant and I hope it does well.
