While we usually opt for Asian food, we decided to give this place a go. We were not disappointed. They open at 11 a.m. on Sunday and we arrived about 1 minute early. There were already five vehicles waiting for them to open, with one hungry customer standing at the door. We were greeted with a smile and quickly seated. Our drink orders were taken and we were given an opportunity to review the menu. We wanted to take some food home so I ordered enough food to ensure we would have another meal later. My lovely bride went for the Brisket with Collard Greens, Green Beans, and a House Salad. When I was ordering her brisket for her, the waiter asked if she wanted lean or fatty? I appreciated having the choice between the two. We opted for the fatty selection. They had a special going today for the Smoked Wing Platter. I went with this and a order that is called "Almost Heaven". I had a mixture of sides, between the two main dishes, which included Potato Salad, Pit Beans , Collard Greens, Mac & Cheese, Cole Slaw, and Brisket Chili. My date always has chopsticks in her purse so she broke them out and we went to work on the feast in front of us. As other contributors have stated, everything was absolutely delicious. The flavors of the sides, which are all barbecue food staples, were unique to this restaurant. I am very picky when it comes to coleslaw and theirs was a very pleasant and delicious surprise. The brisket chili was a new one on me and a must-try when you come here. Arriving at 11, we had our meal in front of us by 11:15. By 11:23, they were at capacity and a couple was already sitting on the bench waiting for a table to open up. Our server had a wonderful tableside manner and checked on us at all the right times. I have included a photo of the menu and a pic of each of our dishes. We left with three boxes of take-home food which will provide at least two more meals for us as well as a TV snack. As a bonus, I included a picture of the receipt as well. All said, a wonderful experience all the way around. As others have said, they need to be at least three times the size that they are but, I wonder if they would be able to maintain the same exceptional food quality that they now have with their small, cozy establishment. If you have not tried them yet, be sure to put them on your list. You will not be disappointed....
Read moreI have been extremely disappointed with the BBQ scene in Mississippi. Someone recommended Kenova to us and we have been twice now. If I ever have guests visit who insist on southern BBQ this is the place to go! My favorite thing about Kenova is that the meat does not come smothered in sauce and you can pick any side you want. If you wanted to have a heavy, greasy, delicious BBQ experience you definitely can. If you want to keep on the healthier side, that is definitely possible as well.
Pit Beans: They're not for me, but only because they have jalapeño in them. On the other hand, they're the only beans my husband will eat. They are loaded with flavor and pieces of meat.
Creamed Corn: I feel this is a must at any BBQ spot and they're very well done at Kenova. They're on the heavier side so I do recommend splitting these or planning to take the rest home.
Mac n'cheese: Best mac I have had down here. Again, this is another food I have struggled to find down here that is well done and I could this mac n'cheese everyday. It is so rich, not super buttery, but the cheese sauce is perfection.
The Meats: I'm not one for pulled chicken, but it is so tender and juicy. I feel typically BBQ spots dry chicken out, but here the chicken is one of my favorite meats. Pulled pork is a bit underwhelming, but I think it would be best as a sandwich. The brisket is flavorful, but the pulled chicken is truly the star.
Overall, this is a must if you want Mississippi BBQ. You won't be disappointed with trying...
Read moreWent in for the first time and overall it was an extremely pleasant experience. The staff was more than accommodating. Personally met the GM, Chef, and owner. they all took the time to explain to me what they were trying to accomplish with this cute little place. First off I need to tell everyone that this may be the best beef brisket in the Tri-County area. I say that as a chef and barbecue pit person myself . Their seasoning was spot on. I was disappointed I do not have a sampler platter where you can try to meet at a time the only choice you have is a huge one that includes like four or five different meats and by myself I wasn't going to try and tackle that. The chef was gracious enough to let me try the pulled pork and it was divine it had an adequate amount of bark and smoke ring to show quality and skill -and had great flavor. I loved that the slaw was not sloppy wet and overly sweet. It added nice balance to the " sweet " sauce. I found the chicken wings intriguing. I will definitely return for another interesting dinner and get ribs and chicken. Also a nice little selection of craft beers. A bit out of the way for me but a new favorite if the ribs and the 1/2 chicken are as good as the...
