Worst restaurant experience ever! No one greeted us so we sat ourselves. About ten minutes later, a waitress (black shirt with VCU)finally asked us if we wanted something to drink. She appeared to have a bit of an attitude-no smiles, no friendliness. As a former server with many years of experience, I thought, "Ok...she's having a bad day." I can handle that so long as someone is not rude and provides adequate service. Unfortunately, I received neither. A few minutes later she brought our drinks to us (placed in middle of table - she could not be bothered to place them in front of us) with very little ice so they were quickly hot. We ordered a coffee as well. This was put on the table so hard that the coffee sloshed over. We gave our orders. About 15 minutes after ordering, our waitress then came by the table and told us our food was almost ready. After waiting another 20 minutes and watching our sandwiches sit in the window for that amount of time, we flagged her down and asked about our order. She went to the kitchen window and brought our food to the table. Needless to say, it was cold. When I told the waitress the food was cold, she rolled her eyes and literally huffed. She lied and said it had just come up. The other sandwich's bread had turned hard since it was sitting there so long. I told her (in a mom voice) that her behavior and the food was unacceptable. I explained to her that we had watched our food sitting in the window for quite awhile. She grabbed the plate back from the table, put the food in the kitchen window, and walked away murmuring that she was tired of not being treated like a human all day. I explained to her that we had only been kind to her, however our food was cold. Then we heard the cook say he had no more of the grilled chicken which is what I ordered. We decided at that point to walk out. This was something I had never done before.
I always look forward to going to the cafe as a treat after Floydfest. Will not make this mistake again. Sorry to see this tradition go away due to poor service and inept kitchen staff. If I were the owner, I would be having some serious conversations with those employees. I'm thinking the service industry is...
Read moreThe service was very good, all of the staff were polite. As far as the meal quality I was disappointed. The fries were greasy and limp, a Kaiser blade cannot make fries better. The $6.95 roast beef sandwich was lacking in everyway, The one thin slice of roast beef was black, dry and flavorless. The bread crumbled on the first bite and was stale. The menu was lacking of everything. ( the same sandwich can be purchased at 2 local filling stations for a third of the cost, yes the same sandwich .) Working men would come in for a hearty breakfast and/or a big sandwich at lunch. I saw nothing that did not resemble a roadside gas stations food on the menu especially the sandwiches. Certainly nothing on the menu that would warrant returning. I spoke with many of my friends who wanted to give the famous diner a chance under new management and all reports were of disappointment. Once these same people would say we had a good meal at the Blue Ridge but not one reported this to me since the reopening. Again the menu had very little to offer in regards to home style cooking and now appears to be a tourist trap menu designed to keep locals away with pricing. I have dined there many times before the change and really thought a upgrade was in order because time does wear on a small diner. This how ever is not going to be a success story and is sad for Floyd. When tourist season is over, the test will begin. Good luck not even the tourist will patronize this place for more than one season. I have many friends and family who travel here every year and like to dine at the local places and The Blue ridge was the only breakfast place with the Floyd feel. It can be assumed Pine Tavern and Tuggles gap are going to be getting Much more business after the tis season. All...
Read moreGood food, however Sunday morning already placed our order then after 15 mins told they were sold out of bacon we all had to change our order....it was only 1030....bacon shouldve been cooked. Then the servers stood up front giggling about it I told Jarrod I didnt think it was very funny he said he didn't deserve that disrespect blah blah long story short my son got angry acted like a complete jerk, however if they knew what proper customer service was, which is don't run your mouth to customers, we wouldve never had this problem. Also if they had someone over the age of 16 working on a busy Sunday morning, that could be helpful as well. Now I would like to say I have NEVER had this kind of problem here before. This establishment is normally a great atmosphere, all the servers have always been super nice and always very good. Jarrod however sat us down then didnt come back to get our order for drinks for at least 10 minutes, never offered us a single refill, we were served cold food, and on top of that we didnt even get all of our food. Now the server that rang us up was super sweet, very apologetic and adjusted our bill accordingly. She gets a...
